  1. Whoa its been a while since I checked back!! Thanks for all the replys guys .. but guess what.. I seem to have lost motivation and now the engine is up for sale. I'm moving on to my new project, which I've been waiting a long time for the opportunity to do and need the funds! :sob: Check it out in the For Sale section if your interested. http://www.rollaclub.com/board/index.php?showtopic=13411 I am in need of an SC12 again tho as the one I had.. well I no longer have it anymore! :hmm: Sooo anyone with a good SC12 for around $200 PM me or email me at [email protected], preferably email. Cheers guys
  2. Yes my early 20v uses a similar thing to VTEC, switching the camshaft duration or overlap(?) i forget the rpm.. Id like to look into the adjustable runner idea... thanks And yea i might see how much i can pick up a SC14..
  3. He he I'm pretty sure I've seen that done before! a yellow one.. 4AGZE, etc. Actually supercharging its going to be cheaper for me :D
  4. Yeah thats why i would LIKE a centrifugal as the boost would increase smoothly over the rev range. 1 thing I have found interesting is that when reading debates over 'which flows more? 20v or 16v?' most people agree that the bigport flows more. Now when i want to add a supercharger from an engine equipped with a bigport head, they say it wont be able to flow enough air for the supposedly inferior flowing 20v head...? See where I'm comin from? :D
  5. Your think the same as me; a centrifugal charger would be perfect.. nice smooth boost curve, etc. but the PRICE!! damn they're expensive! Still.. would be nice and quiet... :D Can someone explain to me why they can't keep up? I think i understand where ur coming from, i jus wan2 make sure. Is it to do with, RPM, psi, cfm?
  6. um, whatever that means?
  7. Its not a problem, i just feel like something different for a change. All i see around here are turbo AE82 or AE92s. Id rather hear the whine of a charger than ssssss...PSSS-CHHEESSHH!! for a change. Its not so much about the car.. The engine is more my focus. Once its finished there are heaps of potential cars to transplant it into. The AE82 was the cheapest lightest car for me. I picked it up in awesome condition, 1 lady driver. They needed it gone coz they were moving.. $100 and a new windscreen! Its not i don't like to rev either... its i don't want to have to.. :D Does anyone have any helpful suggestions!? Cheers
  8. Easier maybe, been done a million times, yes. I know about the power loss too which is why i want to run around 8-9 psi which willl give similar results as a turbo running 5 psi. With the supercharger i can just hang it off the side with the stock lower bracket, make a custom top one, and then just run piping. With a turbo - custom exhaust manifold... manifold or bracket.... hmmm? :D and if i went turbo, me being me, id go and buy a brand new one! around $1250 or 1/4 that for a supercharger?
  9. I don't want to have to rev it harder to keep it in the power band! i want the power band lower in the rev range... Yeah i know, the prepped 20v will be going in first, then getting complianced, etc. Then I'm going to look into what i have to do to make all my plans legal. Well what do you make of my previous quote of the owner of a similar engine? Perhaps its all in the setup? i.e: piping diameter/length, manifold design...
  10. I would've used an SC14, but it was more convenient for me to jus go and buy the SC12 off my uncle.. :D
  11. I just found this lil snippet from another forum from a person who has done a similar conversion... I guess ill put it all together and see what she goes like...
  12. imho there is.. - it has a p.o.s 4A-C in atm so ANYTHING's better =P - i couldnt find a 16v 4AGE at the time - later model engine - pretty much same strong internals as some model GZE's (with different pistons) - quad throttles (better response) BTW i can't believe i forgot to mention that along with the refined, torque part, I'm also after awesome throttle response, hence the use of a supercharger rather than turbo... :D
  13. When you say 'drop off' at 5500RPM, your saying that the supercharger can't make any more power (pump more air) after those RPM's..? :hmm: :D I'm wondering whether the power curve would continue like a normal 20v after the charger puffs out..? :hmm: Like i said I'm after the grunt more down low (so it feels like it has a bigger, torquier? engine in it) than all-out power. The only reason i take my engine past 5500RPM is to get the p.o.s moving! I wouldnt need to rev it so hard with the torque of the charger..
  14. Hi guys this is the run-down of where I'm at at the moment What I have: Early model silver top 20 valve 4A-GE engine, gearbox, ecu. SC12 supercharger (I'm unsure which pulley size it has on it) This is what I'm thinking of getting/doing: Head work: Port match manifolds Mild port and clean up of head, remove any hotspots etc. 1JZ 380cc? injectors Bottom end: Arias 9.0:1 oversize forged and ceramic coated 20v pistons (has valve cut-outs) Shot-peened 20v rods ARP bolts for EVERYTHING! Theres other stuff I can't remember at the moment but anyways... I only plan to run around 8-9psi max. The main aim of this project is to build an engine that feels refined and torquey. Keeping that in mind, I am unsure of what ECU to use because i would REALLY like to keep all the good factory ECU stuff like cold start, etc. I need to find a system thats capable of controling everything like the VVT, supercharger on/off (based on vacuum rather than RPM), upgraded injectors, water injection setup, etc. I really need to know if any of you guys out there have any opinions on what system would be able to handle these major things. Theres too many out there and I really just don't know and would rather take it from the experience of others.... Cheers guys!
