I know albins can do a 1:1 5th helical/synchro box, I was about to order one when I scored a KR engineering ( Holinger before they were Holinger) T50 box with dogleg 1st where 5th is and H pattern for the rest of the gears. My box has straight cut gears for 1-4 and 5th is helical. I'm not sure if a dog box is really needed as long as the ratios are right that's the key.PPG may do a straight-cut dogbox but don't expect any change from 10 grand. Keep a eye out on the Brindabella forum for some CR close ratio boxes. Here's a vid of my car with the new box at Bathurst this year :)

My brother and I have had both our car on the scales at mallala and they came in at 850kg with driver, both run 4age 20V, t50, alloy cage, they have been on a diet but could probably lose 10kg if we went nuts with the holesaw. The nephews Ke55 and Ke30 with 3sgte run at about 950kg with driver

yeah about $230-250 for new ones from performance and the Superlite GTR the lightweight ones are around the 320 mark, most of the 13in rims are dearer than 15-16in rims now due to limited demand

The Easter weekend race meet is over and what a meet , I knocked about 10secs off my PB from last year to a 2.49 in traffic, the SA guys were 1,2,3 in IP in over 2 litre and Rookey and myself were 1 & 2 in U2L in IP. We had heaps of track time and only had our last race cut short because of a BIG crash involving a WRX at Forrest Elbow. Qualifying I qualified 29th out of 45 cars with a 2.52.65 I was still working out lines and trying to get braver over the top http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/results....04/2010.BATH.Q3 Race 1 I got blown away by a WRX up mountain straight and diced with a RX 7 most of the race, it was a bit slow over the top but hosed me down the straights. Got down to a flat to a flat 2.50, still plenty to find http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/results....04/2010.BATH.R3 Race 2 I started well and was in a pack of cars consisting of a few late model v8, honda, rx7 and a Lotus Elise, was getting into a groove with cars of similar pace when the exhaust broke, stayed out for another lap but pitted just in case the rest fell off or was ripped off. http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/results....4/2010.BATH.R10 Race 3 Started rear of grid in 44th and finished 26th, passed a heap of cars but couldn't really get a good lap time got down to a 2.49. The car has a mid low 40 in it with a clear track and cars of the same pace http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/results....4/2010.BATH.R17 Race 4 I was meant to start in 26th but got put rear of grid again, the timing excel spreadsheet had a few bugs and put a few cars in their previous grid position. I was making may way through the field when the race was red flagged due to a big smash at Forrest elbow involving a WRX. I was a bit po about starting rear of field but it didn't really matter http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/results....4/2010.BATH.R24 The nephew was very happy as he got down to a 2.33 and was top 3 for the weekend :y: All in all a great weekend, no rain and no incidents by any of the SA guys, can't wait for next year.....FOSc is getting better and better a few shots courtesy of Nathan Wong..... speedshots.com.au Mark Shorty Short he was never headed all weekend James easy speed Sutton Micheal Iceman Rooke Adam Stellan Skarsgard Allan John fat wheels Sharp Clint Sharperto Sharp When it all goes wrong at Forest Elbow :P Plenty of great shots here courtesy of Nathan Wong Speedshots.com.au http://fosc.speedshots.com.au/gallery/fosc_040410/ Videos to come :fuzz: -

yep use the standard strut just cut and shut with a coilover kit Car has finally hit the track, fixed the gearbox leak and changed the diff to a 4.11 for Bathurst next weekend :). The car went well, missed a few shifts on the box due to the closeness of the shifts now, only really used 2,3,4 as the diff was too high. Brake upgrade seems good needs more rear though. The front l/h guard rubs so the guard needs to be trimmed for clearance, car seems to have a heap more sniff in a straightline, I couldnt really judge the upgrade of the wheels and tyres as the tyres were second hand and 4 yrs old, new tyres next week. The car has better turn in but suffered mid corner understeer and was very loose in the rear, also has a bit of a ecu interface fault on the crank angle sensor which limits it to 8500rpm. Car was finally dynoed , didnt make the HP we wanted , not sure if it was a slipping clutch(gearbox input shaft seal is leaking) or atmospheric conditions. We will be back to back testing it against the brothers cars figures on the hub dyno we usually use when the clutch is fixed. We are heading to the track next week so will have to see what its like out there. Engine sounds sweet at 9 grand though  Only real power run sadly then the clutch was slipping Youtube Video -> -

The little rolla is moving now, had a good day working on it , fixed a few things up for mandatory scrutineering and only have to get a e85 tune and fit airbox, getting the baseplate laser cut to suit the quads. Hit the track for a practice day on 27th to see if everything works, bed in brakes and road some tyres ready for bathurst at Easter:dance: :P :( Little vid of the nephew going down the driveway, its only hitting 3000rpm, not even close to being on cam, straight cut gears sound f@$kin great inside and out of the car Youtube Video -> [ -

A little update on the Rolla , Ive now had the engine rebuilt with Toda pistons, spool rods, ported head, balanced and blueprinted bottom end, 550cc inj and it will run on e85. Ive also acquired a holinger gearbox with straightcut gears and close ratios, I have upgraded the thickness of the rotors and gone to a Hawkht10 pad compouds. Fitted flares and bigger 13x7 rims and 205/60/13 tyres, It should be hitting the dyno next week and hoping for a 20hp gain over the previous setup of 182hp @ the flywheel here a few pics -
If its a series 3 3sgte a decent sump is all that is required,we modified our by extending the pickup and making a trapdoor arrangement. On a early head extra drain backs are required, also check the condition of the cam journals, they flog out and cause excessive oiling to the head

today http://www.andra.com.au/article.asp?Id=1938 Quote: Adelaide Motorplex Public Meeting To Be Held Sunday the 23rd of August (Wednesday, 19 August 2009) Posted by Rob Sharp The Adelaide Motorplex Committee has invited drag racing clubs, race-teams, families and friends to attend a Public Meeting, to be held at 2pm, Sunday the 23rd of August. The meeting will be held at the Masonic Hall, corner of Commercial St (Port Rd) and Dale St, Pt Adelaide. The meeting is to inform all interested parties of the progress and current developments regarding the proposed multi-code, privately funded Adelaide Motorplex, and planned for construction in the Pt Adelaide/Gillman area. The development of this Motorsport Park is a positive one for South Australia and the many associated industries/businesses that would benefit from such a world class facility. This project has the full support of the Australian National Drag Racing Association (ANDRA Inc). ANDRA's CEO Tony Thornton will be joined by a representative from CAMS as well as Senior Politicians, Guest speakers and well as the Adelaide Motorplex consortium themselves. There will also be an opportunity to publicly ask questions to those present on the day. Tony Thornton commented, “We encourage you all to attend the Public Meeting and show support for this exciting South Australian project. ANDRA drag racing has continued to grow over the last number of years and Adelaide has missed out on two of Australian motorsport’s leading championship series.” “ANDRA has been working closely with the Adelaide Motorplex consortium for the last two years and we are optimistic that we are getting closer to a result. Drag Racing is pleased that we have been able to provide a base from which other motorsports may benefit,” concluded Thornton. The Adelaide Motorplex will be a multi-purpose complex meaning that will bring ANDRA Drag Racing back to South Australia. ANDRA believes that providing safe and controlled environments where participation by the public is readily accessible is a socially responsible outcome that could offer some assistance to address the 'hoon' problem. If your organisation, business or club has an interest in this very important motor sport issue, ANDRA encourages you to attend. get down to the port and show your support

about 220 down conrod, probably 230 would be a acheivable but I was going through forrest elbow very gay, i was pulling about 8500rpm, my engine is a import motor that has never been freshened and reved to 9200rpm on a regular basis and is still going mate. The nephews in their 3sgte turbo rollas were pulling over 250kph down conrod :P

Geez the fat ugly guy really stuffed up the photo :), had a ball guys and good talking to you guys, I would drive 5000kms to race there again. The cars went well all weekend but I need to be more agressive over the top and through the chase and brake properly. I was braking like a nana and coasting into the corners. Anyway I have set a benchmark time and hope to crack a high 40 low 50 for next year A few pics from the weekend Cheers John

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Just got back and what a weekend of racing, we lost a few races off the programme due to carnage on the mountain.... it bites big time when you get it wrong. Thankfully we had a incident free weekend and improved our times every session, found 12 secs from my first lap to my fastest lap and probably another 5-7 secs still to be found. Masters session The masters session is a there for first timers to Bathurst and is quite handy for learning lines, brake markers , flag points etc. We went behind a MX5 with a decent steerer behind the wheel and followed his lines. First impressions of the track were, plenty of concrete walls and blind corners. Qualifying It started badly in the form up grid, I wear perscrpition sunglasses and when I put my helemet on and slide on the sunnies the metal frame broke and didnt have time to get my clear lenses back at the motel. I did qualifying with limited vision but qualified 35 out of 43, very happy as I was expecting to be last http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/re...4/2009.BATH.Q1 Race 1 Started badly and was swamped, was running 2nd last but got past a few cars and had a great dice with BMW all race, I kept missing 3rd gear into the chase , had a knob end in a Alfa try to squeeze me on the line and nearly ran me off the road ! http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/re...4/2009.BATH.C1 Race 2(pissing down -- just like the bathurst when the GTR slid off the track) I had some dramas with my car in this one, some monkey---me had run the kill switch cable too close to the wiper arm and motor as I was leaving pit lane up mountain straight my wipers stoppped working and suddenly my engine died... what had happened was a clip had worked loose and the cable tangled round the wiper arm loooped round it seized the wiper and killed the engine.... I then had to drive and change gear with one arm, while the other arm held the kill switch on in pelting rain at Bathurst with no wipers!!. I was just trying to keep up on the warm up lap and get round to the pits... I nearly aquaplanned off at the esses beacuse I hadnt been warming the brakes I hit the pedal, panicked and locked the fronts, thankfully I got grip turned and headed straight for the pits. About 12 cars pulled in within 2 laps because the conditions were terrible. http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/re.....;/2009.BATH.C10 Race 3 This race was shortened due to a big accident the race before I started from last position due to the DNS the race before made a reasonable start but was squeezed at turn 1 and could pass many cars had some great battles with a couple of BMW and a jag.... The highlight of the race for me was I was nearly brave enough to hold it flat through chase curve I finished34th out of 45 cars so very happy, the cars went back on the trailer undamaged and felt a massive sense of achievment to finally race at Bathurst http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/re.....;/2009.BATH.C27 What I have learned from the experience is I need a close ratio gearbox, the mountain is fantatsic and if you get the chance race on the track. I will be back with a better knowledge of the track and a car with a few improvements, hoping next time for a low 50 high 40 with the box, a engine freshen( its a import motor which is stock), better tyres and brakes and a slightly more balls out attitude, not too much though the top is scary and it bites hard... Vids Cheers John
