Rolla In Supersprint 2007
KE70-from-mt-panorama replied to KE70-from-mt-panorama's topic in Automotive Discussion
Irokin, It would be worth it for the speed weekend. Its normally the first weekend in December and its a supersprint on the Saturday, and then a mountain straight hillclimb on the Sunday. I was going to go in the hillclimb too, just wasnt sure how the old rolla would pull up the hill so i gave it a miss this time, plus i wasnt quite finacially set up enough for both as i was on holidays from work But if you want to run the track and you live a fair way away the speed weekend is the option for you. -
Hey all On 1st December Bathurst Light Car Club (BLCC) hosted the supersprint on mt panorama. I decided to enter my standard AE71 rolla into it. I had planned on having the 4age in it by then but didnt have enough time. Anyway, Took the rolla up on the trailer, had a quick look over it then took it over to be scrutineered. i was expecting they would knock me back for something i needed to fix, but to my surprise they didnt. i was chuffed. I was in group 2 (3 groups) so i had to wait for group 1 to finish before my group went up to the start line. This was good as it gave me a feel for the car as i have never driven it on the tarmac, only in my fairly small backyard. So we drove out the v8 entrance to the pits and headed the opposite way around the track, we drove to the top of conrod and did a u-turn through the BLCC carpark then back onto the track in the right direction. The Start line was at the dip in conrod straight. So while we waited in the line we watched the cars ahead of us start, then the cars behind them did their burnouts, then they went, it all seemed to flow, it didnt feel like we were waiting for a long period of time. There was always something happening. When i got to the front of the line i was up against a standard vl commodore. So we got the ready set go and we were off. I got the edge off the start line but the vl had too much go and took off, but one achievement i kept him in sight for the whole run. the little rolla was going well, i was surprised that the standard 4ac was making power to 6 grand where i changed gears, but i think it could have made power till more revs. Is that Normal? anyways got to bout 130km/h round the kink then down into the chase, i slowed her down a bit as i didnt know what she would handle like. Went around good. Then went down to murrays corner (where the photographer was) and had to slow down more due to this happening ahead of me (Compression Lock-up) But then he went back out onto the track and we kept going to the finish. Went back into the pits Through the v8 Pit Exit, Parked the car, Got out and said "That was fun" and then my mate said, "That doesnt sound good" I said what? He told me to take my helmet off, I took it off and heard a hissing sound coming from the engine bay, Opened the bonnet, coolant everywhere, Looked for the leak, Had 4 people searching, then someone found it, A stream of coolant coming from the crack that appeared in the base of the radiator. (Photo of crack to come) "Hmm, Nothing major, Ill go home and get the spare" So i was on my way home to get the radiator from my parts car. I was expecting to miss a run, but to my surprise we got the new radiator in and all hooked up ready for the next run with plenty of time to spare. I was even more chuffed. There were a few crashes in group 1 that delayed preceedings a bit. So for my next run, i kept my eye on the temp gague as i was told you arent actually allowed to use coolant in the radiator on the track at it is slippery if there is a spill. Just like the jag that crashed into the wall front first spilling coolant all over the track. But the temp gague stayed at optimal. My second run i was lined up against a Boss 302 Mustang but an evo up ahead pulled out and changed the order and i ended up against my mate in his datsun 1200 coupe race car. So we got to the front and my mate didnt thrash his car off the line as he had only just put a new cera-metallic exedy clutch into it, so he was taking it easier on the clutch, so i got the jump off the line and then i was keeping the nose ahead of him, i looked across and he was just staring at me. I knew the car was much faster than this i got about 1/2 a car ahead of him and then he thought he couldnt have this and he dropped back a gear and shot off, and i didnt have a hope in hell of catching him. not even under brakes or around corners cause he was wearing advan semislicks and has had the brakes upgraded massively. But i knew i wasnt going to win. So then we got back to the pits and waited for our next run. I checked the radiator out and it was all good. Run 3 i was by myself, And run 4 i was lined up against a BA XR8 Heavily modified, so i might as well have been by myself. EDIT: When i reached 150km/h on my last run all the dust, spiders and crap came out of the vents. Results: Run 1 - 78.35 Run 2 - 75.29 Run 3 - 73.23 Run 4 - 72.47 I came 6th in class out of 7 and 89th outright out of 95. Not bad considering i was in a modified class. The rolla was classed as modified as i have made a sidepipe, pulled un-needed stuff out of the interior and played with emissions gear. Some Pictures of other competitors 20V Spoontah My Mates Datsun 1200 Coupe The Drift Car that was competing (the officials told him to settle down and stop drifting after this) Hope you enjoy.

Getting Defected...Especially for a stupid reason like "Undue Emissions (exhaust)" To put it in coppers terms. I mean FFS its a diesel, it blows smoke. But at least i still had 3 days to drive it. So now i have to spend money fixing it, lucky its only gunna cost $22. But still, "Undue Expenditure On Car" That $22 could have been spent on my corolla. Thats enough complaining for now. -

I hate telemarketers that ring you at work "i would like 10 mins of your time..." Piss off I'm busy. I hate telemarketers in general, You can never understand them. Another thing i hate is call centers. they just keep passing the buck until someone knows whats going on, until then we get stuck on hold listening to a piano. -

4ac Emissions Removal And Cheap Power
KE70-from-mt-panorama replied to KE70-from-mt-panorama's topic in General Mechanical
Thanks for the link. Seen that before when i bought the street commodores magazine with it in it. I would go the webers but i find it hard to come across them at all, let alone cheap. But if i found some with adaptor plate i would buy them because i could resell them when I'm done with the old 4ac anyways. If i can find some in time then it should be good. My mate still thinks that we should get the die grinder and port the head, but i don't like that idea too much even though i have the 4age. What do you all think of that? We did the servicing today cleaned out the carby, new plugs and leads, new fuel filter, new diff oil etc, she responds sooo much better now. Cheers for the idea's -
4ac Emissions Removal And Cheap Power
KE70-from-mt-panorama replied to KE70-from-mt-panorama's topic in General Mechanical
Cheers. That will be helpful. The removal of the heater was to reduce the weight. Anything that can be taken off it will be, some already has. And if my sister decides to part out her st162 celica ill be taking the radiator out of that with the twin thermo's. And to save another topic, Can someone explain to me why one of my 4ac's uses a v07 oil filter and the other 4ac uses a v012 oil filter. The v012 is on the automatic one and the v07 is on the manual. It confuses me and my mate thats helping. -
Hey all I am competing in the Supersprint at Mt Panorama on the 1st of december and i wont have my 4age rebuilt in time, so i will be running standard 4ac. So i was wondering can you remove any emissions gear for extra power, and also what can you do to the 4ac to get some cheap power. I'm doing the usual stuff like, service, new plugs/leads and octane booster in the fuel, weight reduction and also removal of dodgy power draining heater gear. But what else can go so i can get more power out of the unopened engine. people are saying carbs and extractors but with the 4age going in soon its really pointless to me. The car is not registered and never will be so any gear removed for cheap power doesnt matter. I have read this topic but to little gain. http://www.rollaclub.com/board/index.php?s...ic=1974&hl= Also Anyone in the bathurst area on the 1st and 2nd of december are welcome to come and watch the event. Supersprint saturday and Mountain Straight hillclimb Sunday. I am only competing in Supersprint as entries are low for hillclimb and i don't want to trust the old 4ac to pull me up the hill in a decent time. Cheers Jake

Ra40 And Ra60 Diffs
KE70-from-mt-panorama replied to KE70-from-mt-panorama's topic in Automotive Discussion
Sorry just the question of the RA60 diff Wasnt answered. Will it fit? And Which is better? I did do my search Before even Posting the original Topic. There was nothing on RA60 Diffs. Again i apoligise for creating the new topic. I just need to know Relatively fast. -
Hey all. Just wondering, Do the diffs and housings out of RA40 and RA60 celica's fit into an AE71 Corolla and if they do Which one would be a better Diff, as i can get my hands on both for fairly cheap, now i need to make a decision. Cheers Jake

Who Prefers Beer? Who Prefers Spirits?
KE70-from-mt-panorama replied to ke rollin 20's topic in Rollaclub Social (Off-Topic)
Spirits for the win. Used to only drink bourbon, but then i moved on to most spirits. Jim beam small batch prob best bourbon, and only just getting into rum although much smoother and tamer than bourbon. can't stand Beer or wine of any form. -
My mate had a similar problem with his brakes on his ra40. It ended up being tiny holes all through his brake lines. He originally didnt know what was up so he took it to the brake specialist and they checked it out. So that would be your best bet. Good luck with it mate

I agree with that. Iraqi D-spec...Love it

Road Car Resprayed
KE70-from-mt-panorama replied to KE70-from-mt-panorama's topic in Rollaclub Social (Off-Topic)
I don't see the problem with the red random spray paint either. my mate is suggesting we redo it like that. But i don't like that idea. It was a big effort getting it to where it is now! So to go all the way back...I don't wanna go there But cheers for the comments. 7Shades you will get PM -
Hey All Well after a long time unregistered sitting in the backyard, My road car is starting to take shape. I have almost had my P's for 9 months and havent had a car to drive around in besides little errands for mum and dad (booze run, going to shops when they have been drinking or they are just too lazy to do it themselves etc.) but thats another story for another day. Dad originally purchased this car for $700. Dad used it as a work vehicle and loves it so much he has even offered to buy it back off me if i get sick of it. Through my parents deal (they pay 1/2 for my first car) i got it for $350. I have gradually done up my car to make it look a bit more respectable and have done it very cheaply. What i started with. (Dad did the spray work) I sanded it back once but it didnt get sprayed so it sat rusting, i sanded it back again and the progress begun. Then i filled in the large dents etc with "metal tech" (no photo's of this) Then the respray (some old toyota hilux white we had lying around) And then 2 cans of export spray paint with some septone clear coat for bolt on bits (grill etc.) and overspray. Not bad for a first time home job. Especially for the age of the car. Dad was a Big help with it, he sprayed it for me. Cheers All Jake
