Some more photo's 5L of coolant, Lots of water, and 1 big and 1 small bottle of bars leaks to get home The engine minus the radiator which will be taken to get fixed on monday -
Hey all. Well my mate told me that his grandmother had an old corolla coupe, as i was searching for a nice daily corolla. So after a few weeks with him getting in contact with her in wollongong we arranged a day and time to go down (from Bathurst) and have a look (Friday). So we went down in my mates ute and went to look at the car. it wasnt as nice as it was made out to be but it was still really good. She was the owner of the car since new and it had always been looked after. It spent the first 27 years of its life outside of the garage as they had their "big car" (falcon) in the shed. But she sold that when her husband died so since then the corolla has been garaged (past 7 years). The main appealing thing about the corolla is the amount of miles it has on it Thats original and hasnt gone around The car was mechanically sound, but cosmetically dirty. It has never been in a prang, and this is the only dent There is minimal rust. Its only surface rust, but i will fix it all the same. After much surveying of the car, i negotiated the price (as you do) and then we decided to head off back home at about 5pm. The coolant in the radiator wasnt too good so we stopped at supercheap which was just up an alleyway from the house. Picked up some ready to use coolant looked for a new radiator cap as the one on it felt a little bit spongey, no luck. So we filled the old girl up with coolant, drove to the fuel station and filled her up. and while doing so i got the first wise crack..."Fill her up mate, she needs it!" by a young drongo with a skateboard. my reply "goes better than your skateboard does" he didnt like that and walked off. all within 1/2 hour of owning it. Anyways, we moved on, i was still getting used to the MPH speedo but wasnt too difficult. 50mph = 80kph. 5mph = 8kph so just add or subtract. So it isnt that bad. It was raining and miserable weather for travelling (not complaining cause we need it). So driving along, get about 50km away and the temperature gague is quite high, so i signal my mate to pull over, so we did, popped the bonnet and all i can hear is whistling, the radiator cap isnt sealing properly, and is pressurising the coolant enough to let it out. So i let it cool right down and topped it up again and we got some rag and put it under the cap to get some pressure happening. so we were driving along, it wasgoing great guns, the temp gague was staying at 1/4 of the way up. so we got further down and stopped off at a servo/bottle shop in 1. grabbed something to eat and drink etc, then we headed off again. Well i didnt get too far down the road when the temperature gague was reading high again. I was wondering what it could be this time. Get out and there is coolant all through the engine bay, i looked around the radiator and saw it had a quite sizeable leak in the core. so i let it cool down and we went back the 5 mins to the servo and got some "bars stop leaks" to try to fix it but didnt help. We filled it again after put the cap back on with the rags underneath. Got a little bit further down the road than previously before we had to stop again. We were getting closer and closer but it was taking a long time. Kept going for a while stopping, refilling and going, stopping refilling and going. We got to Blaxland after a good while and stopped in at a servo where we had shelter from the weather and where we had plenty of light. We got very desperate so we tryed the whole mythbusters style radiator hole repair method (which was successful in their tests) as suggested by a fellow rollaclub-ian "Fat Bastard Customs". This sealed the hole until the coolant got moving again and ripped the egg away from the hole which it started to leak again. By now it was about 10pm. So we were quite tired and i was soo sick of stopping. So we decided on driving it back with no radiator cap, just some rag tied over the top to stop it spilling out of the top. this method worked really well. We managed about 45 mins driving with this method before the gague started to rise a bit. So pulled into another servo and let it cool down a bit, then topped her up again and she was ready to go. She went really well and didnt leak out very rapidly, while ever i kept it moving. We stopped off at one servo where we filled it up and stayed a while and we then looked at the pool of coolant on the ground, so the new method fill it right before we left the servo. By this point i was much less frustrated as i could get much further without stopping. i made it home safe and well. Besides the radiator the car went brilliantly. didnt miss a beat, When starting it started the moment the starter motor moved, didnt take a few go's like other cars i have driven. you can't even react to it starting when you turn the key, so its almost like your overstarting it. (this is only when it has some form of heat through the engine. When cold it still starts really well but you need some choke. Now for some of the pictures This is pretty much how it was when i bought it and how it is now. When the weather clears up a bit i'll get out and clean it right up and take some more photo's.

What Grinds My Gears.

On the topic of small cars and big trucks/buses and asians and female drivers, my mate saw a female asian driver get cleaned up by a B-Double truck. The truck had started to turn onto the higway as there was nothing in this lane, the saian driver in a hyundai getz pulled out to overtake said truck turning onto highway, as we all know big trucks have a sign saying "do not overtake turning vehicle" but the asian couldnt read it. also we all know trucks swing out when turning hence sign on back of truck. now the asians bonnet got ran over by the truck. I say good on the truck driver for not making any attempt to avoid this small buzzbox and then just keeping on driving as he "didnt notice". Good work mate -

When i was on my L's i joined the light car club, i started out in motorkhana's and after a few of them i did some khanacross's. These really helped me to learn control of cars, Which made me a safer driver. Today i spun out on mt panorama (forests Elbow), i wasnt hooning or speeding or being reckless. It was in a front wheel drive car, i was thinking if i was going too quick (even though i was going less than 40km/h) it would just understeer a little bit as it has done in other situations, but instead it slid right out and spun 90 degrees to where i wanted to be facing. The road was wet and greasy and my back tyres are getting low on tread, Went around and before i knew it i was facing the wall. But with the small amount of experience of driving from the light car club i managed to keep it away from the wall. Still scared the shit out of me but if i hadnt had that experience of driving in motorkhana's/khanacross's then i would have been facing some damage. I'm not bragging that I'm an ace drifter cause i didnt hit the wall, ill say it, i was lucky. I believe paddock driving is a really good way to learn some skills before you hit the roads. -
Hey all As the title says, Is anyone going to Kandos Street Machine & Hotrod Show this year? I went last year and it was quite enjoyable. Was mostly v8's in the burnout comp, Some very nice old school cars. Some very nice cars in the show and shine. But i only saw 1 corolla there last year. Will there be any more this year? Cheers Jake

This is on a similar note (new policing). Police are starting to drive hotted up cars covered in decals then to add the the whole "disguise" they are putting P-Plates on these cars. They are then proceeding to pull up next to people and encouraging them to drag them, then when they go the copper doesnt do anything and books the person who shot off. I personally think this is F*#@ed up. But in all honesty who is going to pull over for a car with P-Plates? Even if they had the red and blue lights in the dash, you would just think its a young person who got some coloured lights joking around scaring people. Back on topic i don't hoon or watch hooning, the most i would do is get a few mates together and do a few laps of mt panorama then sit at the entrance and talk for a while, and watch the prospective lappers going in and doing their lap, watching the coppers going in to book the prospective lappers etc.

3s-ge Injectors Into 4a-ge
KE70-from-mt-panorama replied to KE70-from-mt-panorama's topic in General Mechanical
At the moment, i havent got any ecu as i am only in the re-building stage. Once the motor is built i will be buying an aftermarket ecu probably a wolf. But at the moment i am waiting on a few things so i can't really do much to the engine till they arrive. I am aiming for more than 125kw. But at this stage i am still doing a little bit of research still. I didnt think about the resistance. Thanks. Will have to take that into account. Cheers for all the input Jake -

Having to get rid of my dog. He is a pure-bred Blue Heeler, But over time he has been Doing some stuff he shouldnt be doing (eg He killed one of the chooks) Which was the last straw. Dad was going to shoot him but we found an alternative, We gave him to some relatives. I like that idea better. He was a great Dog. -
What's The Proper Name For This??
KE70-from-mt-panorama replied to SoulSearcher's topic in Rollaclub Social (Off-Topic)
My Guess would be fog light grill. But thats guessing. No Idea -
Sounds Fair enough. So It Must be true. Hmm Might be something behind that. Bus powerplant sounds good...as long as you don't like steering the car
-
Well Theres nothing wrong with just adding boost. Gave them good results.

doesnt look much like a GTR from the front or side, But still looks awesome. Why did they go v6 instead of l6 in this one?

3s-ge Injectors Into 4a-ge
KE70-from-mt-panorama replied to KE70-from-mt-panorama's topic in General Mechanical
Thanks For the reply. I Understand that just putting bigger injectors wont give me more power, as an engine can only burn as much fuel as the air its getting. So to just put these injectors on would just flood the engine with too much fuel. But i have bigger plans for the engine so as you said they will be a basis for preparation of higher power. Cheers Jake -
Hey all. I am just starting to rebuild/modify a 4A-GE to put into my AE71 race car as a learning experience, I thought about upgrading the injectors using the ones off the 3S-GE sitting in the backyard which my sister blew up. My 4A-GE is a Blue top, So it has the 182cc injectors (Grey) Which equates to 36.4hp/injector so 145.6hp (91kw) is its max functionality. The 3S-GE injectors are 250cc. So that equates to roughly 50hp/injector so 200hp (125kw) would be their max fuctionality. So these injectors would only be good for under 125kw. I searched the FAQ and it says you can use 7M-GTE injectors as an upgrade (440cc = 352hp(220kw)), Only problem is i don't have a 7M-GTE sitting in my backyard (Darn It!!) My Questions: 1) Am I right in syaing what i have said above? 2) Should i be bothering with the 3S-GE injectors at all? This is the site i used to work out the power capabilities for injectors http://www.autospeed.com/cms/article.html?...;A=0102&P=2 All Info appreciated Cheers Jake

Come to mention it, Mine had a big lump of foam stuck under it to stop the sag, But i pulled it out when i replaced the seat. Might put it back in now the latest seat is starting to sag

Cool Idea. Might have to employ that in my seats. Simple But Effective

This Is the first Boar i shot. Was just on dark and we were heading back to camp as we hadnt seen any game around. Walking towards the dam near our camp and my mate saw the boar walking away from the dam. I lined it up but it went into a gulley. So i was getting ready to try to stalk up on it when it popped up out of the gulley and into plain sight, got down onto the bipod lined it up and this is the result: (Sorry about the quality of the pictures, they were taken off my phone) We Didnt weigh it but we rolled it over and moved it around. We estimate around the 100kg mark. Cheers Jake P.S Sorry if anyone is anti-hunting

Well one plus to all this is that the customers were quite understanding. The ones who got cranky were the ones who couldnt get gift cards as they run through EFTPOS aswell. And we have had EFTPOS problems all through the week and there was one customer in particular who came in on 4 consecutive days and couldnt get one. so i am waiting for him to call me back so i can go and deliver it to him (we made one up for him while the EFTPOS was working). -

Going into work this morning (BCF), as soon as i walk in the door I'm told to call the service center because all the EFTPOS machines were Down. So i rang them up, listened to him umm and arrr for 20 mins (by which stage we were meant to be open) until he asks me to check something to the conclusion that the EFTPOS has uninstalled itself off the computers. Took him at least 4 hours to get around to fixing it. Apparently this was a problem across most if not all BCF stores today. But we were left having to decline debit sales, and only accept credit (manually) or cash. And being this close to christmas also being a fairly new store we have been really really busy so this didnt help. -
Passed on my second attempt. 86% I feel better now
