That's interesting. Cheers for the tips. I didn't like the burble as it just sounds untuned, and was a waste of fuel, and there's some anomalous setting in my car somewhere that makes the over run settings not work at all. Its got control of the points at which you release to get over run cut and when the fuel comes back on, but both settings seem not to have any control and I do it in the fuel map. I read in the ecu manual that the fuel cut wont work if ac is on, so I guess I need to check if there's some setting making it think that's occurring. I was looking around the house for more mods to do, so I decided to fit the phenolic gaskets under the itbs. I whipped it all apart, refitted the itbs with the spacers and a gasket either side, and then got out Chris' syncro Gauges and re-synced them since I could not resist playing with them a little while they were apart. I ran the car idling for a while, let it warm up before syncing and adjusting, and could really notice the phenolic spacers working as the inlet manifold was too hot to touch and the itb felt about 40 degrees. Winning. I also found some way better idle control settings and lifted the idle 50rpm and it smoothed out beautifully.

I guess I could go to zero, but a tiny bit of fuel helps cool the pistons and valves. I figure if I'm hard into it for a while its good for it. Ill keep fooling with it in the longer term, see how I go. Still fussing with idle control a bit. New (old) plates are on.

It was pretty well cleared. Biggest hazard was washed over gravels. There were a few sawn up trees on the side of the road as you go from the T between Nebo and Glorious, and Glorious itself. The rest was pretty tidy. Road held up good. Someone must have screwed the pooch because I drove a few miles past Mt Glorious then spun it around and on the way back passed two ambulances and a fire truck going beyond where I was to attend something. A policeman blurted his siren at me as he passed head on in a green HSV sedan but he didn't spin around and pull me up. I didn't think I was speeding beyond any unreasonable margin at that time anyhow. I made a few tuning improvements. I got closed loop fuel and idle control working well, changed some targets and expanded the control range of closed loop fuel control, which worked well. I reduced the zero throttle fuel down to very little and shut off the crackle off throttle. tweaked overrun settings and drove home in a smoother car.

Picked up some ppq plates with no real meaning. i just liked the colours on the grey car and the front is slimline, which was the entire point of the excersise. unblocking the radiator.

Drag Race Ya Mates - Willowbank
LittleRedSpirit replied to LittleRedSpirit's topic in QLD / Brisbane
Nah I just mean so i don't have to race vl turbos all night. -
Spontaneously saw kE70 Dave while out skateboarding with a mate. Cue spontaneous test drive.
-
Oh and the tuner did a half throttle run and that still revved right out and made 93kw atw.

Hello rollaclub. I see willowbank has renamed the test and tune events, "race ya mate." I'm in desperate need of a fresh 1/4 mile time since making a million changes to my setup. I'm looking for someone to come race me on the 5th of April. Anyone?

New tune 2azfe ae86 w57 7.5 F 3.583:1 4th gear pull. Stock motor with itbs and 96mm trumpets.

What a cool way to spend a day. The tune went well. Final number was 112kw @6300. A much higher peak than before and at a higher rpm. It still made power all the way to 6500 with no taper off. Compared to a stock engine and manifolds that makes 118kw at the flywheel, my setup makes the peak power almost 1000 rpm higher with no camshafts! The joy of ITBs. Torque is strong everywhere now. I was really rich up top and it was over advanced significantly, but the motor seemed to take it, it seems to be a pretty tough thing, plus I did very little driving at high revs to really stress it thankfully. We tuned with and without socks so I have a 6kw incentive to make the airbox. Drove it home on open loop, it was very fast, especially high speed from on ramp to overtake, my god. To put it into perspective it makes the original 4ac engines 54 flywheel kw, at the wheels, at only 2900rpm. Hers a video of the dyno run that made 112kw. And the sheet.

Changed diff oil this morning, ready for the tune at 10:30am. Pretty keen to see what happens. I will get a run done with no changes first as a baseline and as a comparison to the old tune since I have changed essentially everything from tuning modes on up since that time, and I'm sure its better to drive.
-
Sounds good. Drove to Jimna so now I'm up to 863kms. I will change the diff oil tomorrow arvo and then get it tuned Tuesday.
-
Did another 303 klms so I'm up to 603. I also went by blacksoil wrecker and found them closed down.
-
Need to do klms this arvo. Who wants a visit? Reed?
-
It will al worth it in the end mate!
-
Yep you gotta use em, then its an excuse for another project when shit happens.

I think those oem gauges are designed to be fret proof, they seem to say the same whether its 70 degrees or 95 degrees, and only freak out over 100. More of a healthy range gauge than a true temperature monitor.
-
Good catch on the thermostat. Imparts is good for BMW stuff too.
-
I did an around town test before highway, and I got 11klm per litre.
-
-
Economy was a shock. I also worked out my speedo reads 4 percent low, so at 100 doing 104 or 105klm/hr. So add 4 percent to the figure takes you over 12.5klm/litre. That's about an even 8 litres per 100klm. So now my wife's 2 litre lancer is a bit more economical at 6.5 highway and 7.5 to 8 around town, but still, I'm stoked with that. The torque really comes along nicely around 2200 so if you could find the gearing, or have it made, you could put a 3.0 rear end in this car and turn it into a prius as far as mileage goes.

Send me your number mate and I will.
