  1. Went to Willowbank tonight and got a 14.397 @ 94.93MPH. Still limiter bashing 3rd on the line. Pretty stoked with that I was aiming for 14.5ish as that's what I've seen as a stock beams ke70 time.
  2. Use the cable driven speedo, and keep your old cluster and gearbox if you want. Id assume it would make things a lot simpler. There's usually only 1 plug that connects the oil pressure light, temp sensor for the dash gauge, starter trigger from the key, reverse lights etc that connects to the non efi related stuff. Thats mainly what you need to connect to make the cluster light up, just transfer the temp sensor and oil pressure sender from your old engine across to the new as the old engine will run at the same temp as the new and the oil pressure requirements will be about the same, that way you know its all compatible on the new motor with the old cluster. Less wiring is a better amount of wiring to do.
  3. Yo this is on tonight and I'm going I reckon.
  4. can't keep these days all to myself can I?
  5. Whos got a heater?
  6. Hello. I'm itching for a cruise with some other Corollas, or Corolla loving people in whatever cool car you have to bring. I was thinking about a run to Jimna from Brisbane and back in a sort of loop, with the point being to do the drive from Kilcoy to Jimna or a bit after there, which is simply superb road up through the forest and over the ridge. There's also forestry roads all around for those so inclined towards gravel. Could do lunch in Woodford for a meet and greet if sunny coast people want to join the drive? So maybe up the highway and then inland to Kilcoy Murgon Road, take it North for a bit then home inside the lakes and over Nebo? If we get some numbers Ill mark a route and we can work out details in a squirrel thread perhaps. Wondering if this will even get replies these days. I haven't organised a cruise for 7 years or so. Sunset from Kilcoy Murgon Road. I highly advise google street view if available of the road.
  7. Thank you! Did a little mod to the Adaptronic USB cable today with wifeys hairdrier. Sick of sloppy cables. Before: After:
  8. Best ever at the moment mate. I don't need no fancy nardi wheel.
  9. Built in Indonesia and developed by the all conquering motorsport gurus at Daihatsu. Id say skip on that one. Also, the biggest in the range is 1.5 litres and it makes only 80kw. Maybe good in a rwd starlet, but you will still have a box with commercial vehicle ratios.
  10. I drove it to golf and around seeing mates this morning. I can tell by the steering feel if the wheel bearing beds and comes loose. I got in it this morning, drove to the end of the driveway, decided it was loose based on the ease of turning, then back back around to the tools, nipped it up as yes the new one had bedded in and come a wee bit loose. With the quaife rack its always firm against the hand at lower speeds, if it isn't, its a sure indicator that there is front wheel bearing play. So yes has definitely been checked and re tightened. Looking for somewhere to cruise to this afternoon...
  11. No need to apologise, I wish people posted and asked things more often.
  12. The bearings repco supplied had MKA on them. I looked for ages could not find any data on them. Repco is owned by Indians now anyhow.
  13. Oh and I did some reading yesterday, both Nachi and SKF have moved their production to the third world, either india, mexico or china.
  14. All of that's my usual plan too, but not on a Sunday morning when I'm playing golf in 3 hours time. It failed because the dust cover let water in, not because the bearing was poor. They were whatever came with my hubs, I never changed them. Method, First strip it all and fully clean every part in the parts washer. I pack the hub with grease between the races, then I roll the bearing full of grease with my palm, then redo just in case, then jam it together and listen for that sucking noise as it goes together that lets you know the grease made a seal. Then tension super lightly. Maybe tighten once gently, get the feel of it, make sure its not binding and the races are squarely fitted by having even rotation with no binds. Then back off and just let the weight of the wrench fall on it and that's tight enough. Chopped an Aurion too.
  15. So was looking for a brake related squeak. Front left wheel bearing was shot. Popped off the grease cover, seems it leaked. It was a repro one. So even the simplest shit they can't get right. Had to settle for repco wheel bearings so I hope they last. Cleaned and repacked the front left. The inner bearing was perfect but the outer was corroded and spinning in a chocolate smoothie. Sounded dry as when you spin the hub. All fixed now. I also cleaned the front right brakes out. I suspect the squeak was the drums full of dust as usual, but I didn't get that far after doing the one sides bearing. Hopefully shows some tangible improvement. I also silicone sprayed the door glass runs, which where super tight after having been removed and scrubbed while the car was apart. All smooth now. Around town economy as pretty low last fill, about 8 ks a lite, but I spent ages playing with idle control and transient without driving it so hopefully its not typical of the car now. If anything it should be better after a tune it was way rich up top, and I've trimmed off tap fuel right up. Me thinks another highway test is in order. Reed send me your number already and Ill come see you.
  16. Took a long cruise today around the suburbs. Saw someone had a beautiful Blue Monaro in the ditch on Winn Rd at the samford valley end. With three blokes frantically trying to haul it back onto the road. Also saw some young dude getting canaries on the side of Samford Road, Keperra, in an R31. Poor bastard just looked up longingly at the 86 as it went by. It was on its guts and maxed camber so he sort of brought it on himself unfortunately.
  17. Sounds good but I'm looking at dinner with some friends tonight. Sorry. I'm keen to start out at one of the less formal days.
  18. I thought about that but I don't know how to handicap it having not run since doing so much setup. I think I need a hit out to see how it goes first.
  19. event was officially cancelled. will advise new dates. input welcome.
  20. I really wanna break into 14s. Car ran a 15.1 with 3.9 final drive, street tyres and a shitty tune. Its now got sticky tyres, lighter wheels, taller gearing that should drop a shift and a higher rev limit with power all the way till cutoff, and softer springs in the back. Ill probably leave some heavy items at home too. If I get desperate I can take the socks off and load the 112kw tune, but Ill see what 106 can do first. Gonna come along and race me with the 1ggte?
