Spare time usually involves lots of guitar for me.

4A going in I take it by looking at the headers? Also, where did you get your filter relocation kit? Should be a good project. Will keep an eye on it.

Loud Tapping Noise From The Rear Left Hand Side
bLinded_ replied to sam-'s topic in General Mechanical
Thumping and tapping seem to be pretty opposite ways to describe the sound. Checked for any foreign objects in the tires? Stones/screws/thumbtacks? That would cause a 'tap' which would get louder and more frequent with speed. Loose numberplate? Or a flapping P plate etc? Rear bumper? Have you done a thorough inspection of all suspension components at the rear to make sure nothing is loose/abnormal looking? Make sure to check that the upper shock mounting points inside the boot have not come loose causing the shock to be 'sloopy' whist the car is moving etc. Also I would take what LittleRedSpirit said about the jack handle as a good possibility. I know that mine does bang against the side of the car sometimes. Also, check the boot side cavities like where the jack is. Something could be in those thumping around, or even the jack come loose in it holder. -
Yeah lol, definitely will be a step up from a K series haha! Engine is a smallport GZE bottom end with bigport head on it. Picked up the bare engine, and heaps of other parts from a guy off AE86DC (MYT-16V great guy to deal with :laff: ) Also had that other bigport which had a spun bigend, and just used all the RWD gear off it to build the new engine. All in all, it has come together pretty cheaply, but just taken aloooong time as I have been waiting for bargins/normal prices on things. If you have a spare Air Temp sensor that would be bloody brilliant Dave! I think it is the final piece I need to get things underway.

Cheers mate. It's been very slow and steady. Sourced a loom finally, so should be getting that sometime soon. Also may have got a Wolf 3D v4 coming for a good price, so pretty much nearly on the home straight in regards to sourcing all parts. :blinks: Only one thing at the moment that I need badly, and that is an air temp sensor for the plenum. So if anyone has one please let me know!!!

Ahh yeah that's the one lol!

Reminds me of Ali G or something hahah! Also, Moose pic is of epic proportions.

Not sure which would be the best for overall performance...but seriously, Carbs... The Induction!! Soooo good!!

Well, time for a bit of an update I guess  (Quite bored and forgot I had this thread) Pretty much over the last year since my last post not a huge amount has happened on my car. Just the usual general maintenance, but other than that, she has been great! 5K hasn't missed a beat and has been great fun since being tuned etc. Been flat out with work and have been living outta home for the last 7months so I have just had no spare time to do anything major to her. I think really all I have since posting last is just the remaking of my coilovers with better shocks, rcas and brand spanking new AE86 Steering arms. And also got some new rear springs that are lower and a tad stiffer. Really happy with the suspension side of it now, so all that is done as far as I am concerned :D Was considering doing a bit more work on the 5K to get a bit more out of her, but just decided to keep it as it is. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" was pretty much what stopped me, as this is the only car I have so it has to perform daily duties 6 days a week :D Current Picture: Anyways..... ...As always, once you get used to the power of a car, you always want more power :( Sooo...over the last year I have been collecting a heap of parts, slowly, to start my 4AGTE conversion :P Been building it up whenever I get a chance/motivation and slowly it is getting closer to being ready to put in! Started with this: And this: And somehow it came out looking like this: Pretty much all I need now to get her in and running is - A donor AE71 (might have one) - Smallport engine loom (Someone please sell me one!!! :() - Suitable ECU (Unsure what yet...Any recommendations?) Still might be a while before I have time to actually operate on her, as work is ridiculous at the moment! But yeah, I think that's it for now :( If anyone has the above parts I am looking for, please, please, please let me know :D  Enjoy, -Alex

I used the stock throttle wheel off an Aisan carb, and 'modified' it to mount to the DGV Weber throttle shaft. Wasn't overly difficult to do, but you will also have to make a little bracket to mount off the tappet cover to brace the throttle cable. I would put up a photo of it, but, I honestly can't find the photos of it anywhere, and have since done away with the DGAV carby. Another member on here shauns ke30 has/had my old setup. You may be able to find out more if you ask him to take a photo of it etc.

A few years back, my KE70 with a 330,000km old 4K came 3rd outright behind an STI and an ex-rally Escort at one of the khanacross meets (Total of 26ish entrants iirc). All it had was a 32/36 Weber on it...And that was it. Stock as a rock suspension, brakes etc, and on 13 x 6 steelies. My mate was driving at the time. I came in around 8th on the day. My point is that we both used identical cars, yet he was able to do ALOT better than me. Why? Because he was is a better driver with lines etc. Driving style and ability is what will gain you enough time to beat Jake/Harry in the stanza. As other have said, flat shifting is not going to help you gain any time. My advise would be to go a 5K. Will notice a huge difference over a 4K and it will still be in the same class.

When I got my carbs (Dellortos) they needed to be rebuilt. Gaskets and O-Rings were all perished and in general were shit condition. I just bought a couple of rebuild kits and did all of that myself. New gaskets, O-rings, Needle and seats etc. I think they were about $35 each for memory. Don't have part number for the filters, but, I will go take some measurements and look it up on the K&N site. With the soft mounts, Trev is right. They come with everything needed, minus the studs to go from the manifold to the carbs. Redline part number is 52-110. That is for ONE softmount kit. PCV and brake booster are running off the same line. The Redline manifold for the K series has only one thread tapped into it for a hose barb. So I have both running from that with a T piece. Will get back to you with filter dimensions and part number and also more photos.

Yeah 4AG will have a normal EFI setup with high pressure pump, but I was just answering Des' question about what I use. I think even though 4-5 PSI is recommended for Webers, I think providing that the Needle and Seats are in good condition, a bit of excess pressure should still be fine. Might be a matter of seeing how 7PSI goes, and slot a regulator in if need be.
-
Des, with the setup I run, I am still just using the standard mechanical fuel pump. Also not using a regulator, but I am yet to have any problems at all from too much/little pressure. Didn't get to take any photos today as I was busy, but can do tomorrow.
-
Sorry don't have many photos of my setup, but if you want, tomorrow I can get a couple more or a short video if you are after something specific. :D That is about the only one I have. Just let me know if you want more.

Soft mounts for carbs? Studs/nylock nuts to mount carbs to manifold?

13b lawnmower?!

Just downloaded and watched it. Awesome movie. Thoroughly enjoyed it! Would like to see what happens with the car in the future.

What To Replace The Rocker Cover Hoses With On 5k?
bLinded_ replied to Twitch's topic in KExx Corolla Discussion
Hahah :) I wanted to do the same thing after seeing Medicine Mans engine on youtube...but instead I just started hoarding parts and got VVV as the end result :jamie: I guess the one advantage of it being in a KE70 is the extra room. That being said, I had to make a 'Custom' screwdriver to take the filter screws out (old screwdriver + bench vice = :)) -

1: Run to catch can. 2: PCV, run to vacuum source on intake. Edit: Don't have a current photo, but I do have a T-Piece in the hose to the brake booster so that I can have the PCV and brake booster run from the same vacuum source on the intake manifold. -
Link to Mungi Mods' How to: Here And another one done by me: Here Should have all the information you need in there to do it. I think iused Mungi's guide when I did mine and had no problems. Just give yourself time to do it, as it is not a 5 minute job :) Good luck with it :jamie:
