  1. :P Only got the pair. There was another set for sale by the same guy that were 7.5" +0 which I wanted for the front, but I couldn't afford them at the time :D And now due to this massive failing Australian dollar, I'll have to wait a while to get some more for cheap, so instead might have to fork out more than I want to( takumi tax) and buy a set of fronts locally.
  2. :D :jamie: :P My wheels FINALLY turned up! Feel very relieved now that I have them sitting on my table. In pretty good condition too. A little bit of gutter rash, but apart from that, they look great. Measured them too, and turns out they are 8.5" wide and not 8", still a +10 offset though. Little bit wider is always good though, providing they don't foul on anything by half an inch :P Car is still getting jetted etc. Hopefully it won't take too much longer as each day I am missing driving it more. The KE55 daily I am borrowing is nowhere near as fun to drive, especially being auto :( That is all for now. :o
  3. Come of hard on my pushie while out at some jumps. Decided I should ride to the hospital to get checked out after blood was coughed up...turns out had a nice list of injuries, one of which included a lacerated kidney, but also got a 2inch long scar across my side above my hip where I hit the deck. All my mates started calling me Kidney boy (as you do) and started cracking jokes about how I had to get one of them removed. We somehow managed to convince about half the people at school that I had one removed, and that the scar was there to prove it. Twas a good fun.
  4. Hey mate, Got the carbies from a private seller on eBay, not Gem Parts. I think the ones he has for sale (gem parts), are full reconditioned ones, so they are nice and expensive. I paid $220 for mine including postage, but spent another $50 on kits and cleaning them. Update: Car runs and drives again! Still isn't perfect, however it is enough to get it to a tuner. Basically, haven't changed anything, but instead put a plate across about 1/3 of the 4 throats to restrict air flow, and instantly picked up throttle response and torque. Actually pulled better than what it did when it was running fine with the 32/36. I still don't know exactly what the problem is but I am assuming that it is air flow/speed related :hmm: Atleast I can drive it to get done properly :lolcry: Sounds bloody tough though, I'm verry impressed. Has the occasional backfire when off the throttle, but I am assuming that is just due to it being not perfectly tuned/timed and just being slightly over fuelled. May report in again soon if any thing else changes. -Alex
  5. Sorry for the late reply, but I've been out of town (Def Leppard in Canberra!) The carbs were eBay'd so I am unsure what size engine they were from, how ever I think that a 2litre Alfa rings bells. I have had them both apart and cleaned and also put new kits through them at the same time. However I didn't check any of the jet sizes when they were apart as I was going to have them all set up by a pro. I will get the sizes for jets etc tomorrow afternoon. Will check which way the fuel is being squirted into the carbies as well. TBH I had no idea that it could even change. I assumed that they would just fire straight down basically. Also, regarding ram tubes: Are they very safe to use? I have been told to avoid using them as apparently the filters get sucked into the engine or something. Assuming he means they deteriorate and pieces break free? I was going to just run standard square filters but I would prefer ram tubes. Just wondering if anyone has ever heard of any bad experiences with them? Also, this video has a little better sound quality which may or may not help with diagnosing. Will report in asap with jet sizes. Thanks, Alex.
  6. The old man and I got busy today...Click The sound quality is nothing special, but, it does run which is a surprise. That being said, it does have a pretty major issue that I need help working out. Basically, it is ok at idle, pretty rough, but still idles, however, when we took it for a drive, there is ZERO power. There is just no torque at all and can hardly pull up the slightest incline, had to clutch in and rev it then release the clutch again. Was not fun :D I am no expert at all with all of this, so if anyone can suggest anything that may help, that would be very appreciated. :D I'm guessing that it may be something to do with choke/jet sizes, but I have no idea if this is one of the symptoms of that. I am going to take it to a proper carb guy when I can, but at the moment it is just too dangerous to drive in its current state. Minus the whole not having any power under load situation, I am pretty damn happy to have it all on and running. Sounds good too :y: WARRRRRP WARRRRRRRRRRRRRP!! Any replies are welcome regarding carbie problems! -Alex
  7. Sounds like a good plan with using the better shell. Should be a great daily after the drive line and panel swapping is done. Just give it a new coat of paint and it'll be awesome :y:
  8. Yeah definitely a little too far away for me. Good price, but freight would be not worth it unfortunately. Pretty much just stripped the whole bottom end down after I got the engine. Gave it a hone, then just put in all new bearings, seals, welsh plugs, new rings and the reground cam. The head was in pretty good condition apart from the pushrods, so I had to get new ones from Toyota. Apart from those, the only real work done to it was new stronger valve springs and a face plane plus valve stem seals. Didn't really want to put alot of money into it as if I was aiming for alot of power, going 4AGE or Nissan power would be the better option. I managed to get most of my parts at a VERY good price, so basically the VRS kit, rings etc only cost me like 350$ all up :) was less than 50% off for most parts. Again with the headers and exhaust, I managed to get a great buy on them (second hand) so I saved a fair bit of money there. Carbs I got off eBay for pretty cheap, but they did require a fair bit of cleaning up and kitting etc. You could easily doa basic rebuild for about $500 if you look around. Probably stay away from Repco though. If you can look around all other sotres, just see who has the best price, then try back at the other places and see if they can do any better. Every little bit adds up, so the more you can save, the better. If you do go down the twin carb path, that is where it will become expensive. Manifolds, linkages, soft mounts, air filters, etc. Adds up very fast, trust me :bash: Then there is the tuning on top of that, which costs alot. I think a rebuild + carbs will be hard to squeeze in under $1000. But I'm sure it will be worth it in the long run :) And rims are a pair of 15 x 8 +10 SSR Mesh. Just hoping that they actually do come...
  9. Ha ha, yeah you're right about everything going wrong, but hey, that's all part of the fun :bash: Drives pretty nicely for an untuned engine. Can really notice the extra torque (actually managed to spin the wheels one wheel in the dry) so it makes it alot smoother to drive. Still get about the same fuel economy as the 4K, but I guess that's because I have to use less throttle to achieve the same speeds etc. Good to hear that you've got the new control arms in. I bet it feels better around corners now that it doesn't boat all over the shop. They are still good fun with a 4K in them, but, I highly recommend, if you get the chance to put a 5K in, do it! Just makes it that much easier to get up hills with :) Other progress is minimal at the moment as I've been quite busy with work etc. Spent tonight fitting the carbs and linkages to the manifold. They are all good to go now, so this weekend, if I get the time, I'll be fitting the Dellortos and extractors. I am also expecting some sw20 AGXs for the front, as I've been meaning to get around to sectioning the coilovers to accommodate shorter shocks. Found some at a good price, so thought I may aswell get them, and I also haven't spent much money on the car latley so I thought, "why not?" :) Bad news though, is that the rims I bought form Japland are still yet to arrive. Has been like 3 months or something stupid, so yeah, not really happy. Just hoping that they turn up soon. The last I heard was that they were in customs, so never have bought rims from overseas before, I have no idea how long they should take. Sort of was under the impression that 6 weeks was about the average time :bash: Other bad news, is that my gearbox is oh so close to giving up. Though, I guess it is a good thing aswell as it means I have a definite reason to go a 5 speed. Which leads me to ask: Anyone with a spare K50 gearbox, please let me know here or PM me!! :bash: Well, that's my monthly update for anyone interested. :bash: -Alex
  10. Found this on another forum earlier. Not a Toyota, but still is quite impressive. Click to see damn fast street car.
  11. Oh Lawd. :)
  12. The long "wait" trick is also a good one :D
  13. Ahh nice work man! Looks bloody tops :( How low do you have the coilovers wound down in the front? Good to hear it handles like a kitten on carpet :P
  14. I was under the impression that 220mm freeheight springs would be too tall for Sierra shocks. I thought most of the boys run about a 170-180mm springs with them. This may or may not be a problem. 220-230 mm would be much better suited to Commodore wagon shocks (343113 KYB) Also, If the car is running Sierras, I'm assuming it is fairly low, in which case, if you haven't already, the bumpstops will most likely need a ring or two cut off from them. the car may be hitting the stops and causing it to bounce.
  15. I'm gonna have to agree with both the above posts. Played a gig and had free grog the whole night, then hit the pubs till 3. bathurst should be good fun to watch/fall asleep to tomorrow.
  16. Front: Corona struts 7kg/mm coilovers with AE86 KYB Excel G inserts. (Unsure of free height sorry) Rear: 230mm free height 5kg/mm spja springs with KYB VN Commodore short stroke shocks (343113 part number) Pretty much the only picture I have of it with the new suspension. May or may not help.
  17. Cheers man :P Had a fair share of dramas along the way (appreciate all the help), but thankfully the problems were rectified and she is good to go now. A quick rundown of what has happened for those who don't know: Firstly, had the engine fitted and right to go. Turned the key and the starter cranked once or twice then lost the will to live. This of coarse was on the long weekend, so I couldn't get a new starter for till a few days later. Then, Second problem. Got it cranking sweet thanks to the new starter. Then, oh wtf? no spark. Everything was double checked, then triple checked, and it was all set up correctly. Turns out that somehow between removing the dizzy from the 4K and fitting it to the 5K, the points decided to short out. So they then had to be replaced. And finally, It started, and drove like a dream. Was driving for about 40mins then we pulled over and popped the bonnet to make sure everything still looked fine. Was all good, so down came the bonnet and got in the car again to drive off. Put it back into first, then all of a sudden, instant loss of power. Smoke then began to come from the bonnet so we hurriedly got that open to find half the wiring loom smoking and such. Old man managed to reef the terminals off the battery which minimised the damage, but the starter circuit and a few others were nicely toasted. Towed it home and soon discovered that the power to the starter had managed to short out on the body of the starter somehow. So yeah, spent tonight rebuilding the starter circuit and all the rest of the melted wires, plus fixing any wires that were severed when the terminals were reefed off. But, she lives to see another day now :P Had another drive tonight, still feels great. Really just can't wait till the Dellortos and extractors go on. Looking to do them next weekend hopefully. Tomorrow she will be paying a visit to a mechanic we know so it can have the timing done properly and also so he can have a drive/listen and see if he can't find any MORE problems. Definitely had our share of dramas for such a straight forward swap. Hopefully they end here (touch wood) -Alex Edit: Worked out how to upload a video to Youtube, so it is.
  18. What grinds my gears: Having a circuit short out when 15minutes from home whilst running in a new engine :P Works perfectly fine for the 40minutes while your near your house, but once you get out a little further, BAM!, smoke pouring out of the engine bay. :P Also, WGMG, when everything that can go wrong, goes wrong. Damn cars....
  19. UPDATE!!!! 5K is running finally!! :P :P New starter is in and my god does it make a difference. Old one couldn't even turn the engine over, the new reduction gear one kicks it over first turn. But yeah, sounds bloody tough (although straight off the exhaust manifold). I'll upload a video sometime soon. -Alex
  20. Ahh yeah, Kooringal. I haven't been searching ebay at all, so I didn't see it. Normally just try and keep my eye out on the main roads when I go to and from work. Now all you gotta do is introduce the springs to the grinder and lower it a little. :) I'm sure there'll be rain soon, oneday, someday...maybe.
  21. Ahh, here the beast is :) Looks like a great daily, especially for that price. How much wider are the stockies on it? 6"? Good luck on getting it sideways lol! Might have to wait until it rains next :) Where abouts in did you find it for sale, if you don't mind me asking. Just a little curious as I don't think I've really seen any advertised/ on the side of the road at all.
  22. That's the way to do it :) Get everything you need, and do it right the first time. Well, basically I don't have anything else planned for the 5K. It is 90% done. Rebuilt the bottom end, got the camshaft reground, and had some new valve springs fitted. It is in the car now (as of this weekend) Just waiting on a new starter then I'll fire it up. Only thing left to do is fit the twin carbs and extractors once the engine is run in. It is really only a mild build, just to have a little fun in and have more power than my 40hp 4K. Am probably going to look down then SR path if I decided I want more grunt in the future.
  23. Cheers man, glad you like it :) Reasoning behind the 5K was basically because this is my daily, and I need to get to and from work each day, so pretty much, the 5K I can put in over a weekend, where as, I don't fancy my chances of even getting a 4AGE conversion done in 2 weeks. EFI, wiring etc, I just don't know enough about it all to attempt it yet. Also, thought the 5K was a good idea as it would be cheaper and less noticable to police if/when I get pulled over. That being said, it'll end up still costing the same, if not more than a 4AGE conversion by the time I have it all finished and get it tuned. I guess also I went the 5K as every old man and his dog is doing a 4AGE. Thought it might be fun to have a tough little K series after watching Medicine_Man's corolla on youtube once upon a time. Ride height is a little lower at the front now as I dropped the coilovers down a little more. Looks alot better imo, just is running out of shock travel at the front. :) Never sectioned the struts when I made them) If you like it, you should have a go at doing the conversion yourself. First one I've done, and my old man and I managed to have it done in less than a weekends work. (Minus the broken starter 8/ ) Just look around on here and ebay, you should be able to pick up a 5K anywhere between $50 to $300 depending on condition.
  24. Wellllll, It is all in the car, and right to go. But, the god damn starter motor finally shat itself so now I have to wait till my new reduction one comes, either Tuesday or Wednesday :) It always was a bad starter, and struggled to turn over the low compression 4K, but the newly rebuilt 5K was just too much for it to handle. Pretty much just got to wait now. I'm pretty pissed off 8/ Ahh yeah lol, saw your thread last night about your new KE70  Sounds like a great buy, especially coming with rego. should make a decent daily/thrasher :)
  25. Well, today was a good day for progress. 4K is out and the 5K is just about to go in. Running the standard intake and exhaust manifolds for the run- in period, then going to swap to the right induction and get the exhaust mig'd together. Should have it cranking tonight if all goes to plan :hmm: Shall report in later tonight with further news.
