  1. I stand corrected, but like you say, they are a good thing (and there's a turbo version...)
  2. type "VVL" into wikipedia or http://www.thecaryard.co.nz/index/Nissan/P...era_232488.html
  3. Have you considered the NEO SR series nissan engines? The top spec (N1) 1.6L makes 147kW (197hp)! (Pretty sure they run a V-TEC like variable valve timing and lift system) The highest spec 2 litre (SR20VE) has 20 valves and makes over 200hp.
  4. Good onya, when my 4age shat itself, I put a dodgy 7age together for $400.00, thats for everything. Handled a 100km per day commute for months, absoloutely no dramas in the AE82, now its going into a TE71 shell, and I fully expect it will last a good while before shitting itself. The only concession I made in driving is sticking to a 6000 rpm rev limit (standard bottom end). From a mount point of view the 7afe block is all but identical mount wise to a 4age, the only difference being block height. So yes, it will sit 15mm higher in your engine bay, all other things being equal.
  5. That ke10 usually has a pretty handy driver in it too, pretty sure it only runs an open diff. :D
  6. Megasquirt ftw!
  7. It has been done, best bet would probably be trying to get a JDM Altezza RS200 front cut for the engine and gearbox, ecu and wiring. Google is your friend.
  8. Been a while, had a go at hooking up the cooling system today. Basically its all FWD with just cuts to the two pipes that run across the block under the intake manifold, and repositioned the remote thermostat housing. Stuck with ancient computer ATM, will post pics later
  9. Whats the S600 like to drive?
  10. I know there's an adapter availble to mount K series engines into early Suzi 4wds, am I close? LOL
  11. HOT, car is awesome too, just kidding. Seriously, a couple of questions: Is the rollcagecage CAMS certified? Do you run an LSD? If not, how do you go with wheelspin? I had lots of traction problems in tight second gear corners in my stock Twincam Seca. Welcome to the club.
  12. Noice
  13. Glad to see someones going to do this up. I was looking at it at one stage. What sort of suspension work has been done to it?
  14. Its suck it and see, and a lack of $$$ guiding this project I'm afraid, if someone wants to donate an A series crossmember and rack...LOL Also treating this as a learning experience, once I get a T18 donor car for driveline parts etc. I will have a better idea about fitment. As it sits at the moment, the engine is secure in the car, I can work out wiring and cooling options, (the motors not going to move THAT far on different mounts) and can think about getting rid of the other donor vehicle. Thanks for feedback guys
  15. I don't know what its going to look like in the flesh, but that's a pretty old school (1970's) looking paint job, which I think will look great, but not with the modern looking skirts, front splitter. IMHO that kit will go better with a more modern style paint scheme or loose the skirts, go bolt on flares and a more old school looking splitter design with that paint, maybe look at race cars from that era for inspiration on splitter design? Having said all that, the dissonance (?) between the old and new will certainly make the car stand out from the crowd, if you go ahead with it.
  16. mines a TE71 too, I might stick with the current (T series) crossmember, as I think it positions the engine a bit further forward in the engine bay than an A series crossmember, possibly avoiding the need to mess with the firewall.
  17. In a flash of inspiration I thought "I wonder if the T series rubber mounts would fit better?" - hey presto, perfect fit Sits on the little lip pieces Going with 1mm plate instead of 3mm for crossmember repairs Cheers, machg
  18. I agree, because it is going to be a track car I will probably go with steering box initially and see how it goes. I have a series 2 rx7 which has a nearly identical steering setup and its around centre feel isn't as good as a rack and pinion set-up, once turned in to a corner, they are similar in feel, IMHO. If I decide to convert later on it might even help me do a rack and pinion conversion on the RX7, LOL.
  19. No drugs or stripper fumes mate, just far too many hours on the net.... http://www.ausrotary.com/viewtopic.php?f=1...a&hilit=rx9 Cheers, machg
  20. Cheers, have you got any pics of your installation as a guide?
  21. Never liked this shape......until now. Much improved by lowering and mags.
  22. G'day, if someone on here has done a 4age into a T18, can you have a look at my post ("lazarust") in rides and projects and help me out (if you have any pics, it might help). The mounts in the pics are AE71 mounts, and everything seems to line up. Cheers, machg
  23. I'll post in engine conversions thread to see if someone has pics of their 4age into T18 engine mounts.
  24. Mount mystery sort of solved; the cradle that the mounts sit on has theses little lips on them (see the arrow); the side that isn't sitting down all the way is sitting on the lip, the other side is past this lip. Does anyone know if the mounts are supposed to sit on the lips or all the way down? If it is supposed to sit all the way down, the solution is but a couple of hammer blows away.... Passenger side => Driver side
  25. Engine crossmember is the standard unmodified T series one. It had a 2TGUE sitting on it. I'll get some more pics tomorrow, everything looks spot on alignment wise, maybe the rubber mounts are a fraction thick, could also be because the motor is not sitting level, I might put a jack underneath the back of the engine and level it and see if that does the trick. Cheers, machg
