  1. 7AGE has gone, 2TGEU FTW!
  2. Yep, makes sense. For fore/aft location, would you install engine and gearbox using the gearbox crossmember to get the correct position, bolt up the mounts to the engine, then weld them where they sit on the bare ke (or ae?) engine crossmember?
  3. Except I am going back to the original engine now which is a 2TGUE, but I would like rack and pinion steering.
  4. Yeah, I have been "spot" welding first to try and reduce warpage, but that's a pretty big hole I had to fill. Thanks for comments.
  5. G'day guys, Has anyone done a rack and pinion conversion on a T18 while still running a T series engine? If you have, can you tell me how to do it? I am assuming you would be able to bolt in an AE71 crossmember like you were putting a 4AGE in. Shell = TE71 (same as a T18 at front), engine = 2TGUE, gearbox = T50
  6. Thanks mate, I am aiming to fill all but the smallest of holes, and keep everything reasonable straight and only use bog for minor imperfections, no to fill holes, LOL.
  7. Repair sections welded in Panel is a little warped, I may weld a rod on later and see if I can pull it out
  8. Don't buy a rotor if your worried about fuel consumption. My standard 12a series 2 RX7 was using 12-14 litres per 100km before it shat itself. My 7AGE corolla was using about 8litres per 100km. Performance was similar. Just throw a 4AGE in an early corolla - decent performance with decent fuel economy.
  9. This fabrication stuff aint easy Recessing around C pillar Panel warpage, arghhh!
  10. Why not go a Camry V6? vastly superior engine to a commonwhore lump.
  11. $$$ might be rarity too? 1UZFEs are common as these days
  12. At drift practice: nooooice
  13. Have finished the welding on the first rust repair (front most crossmember) will post pics once I have made it half presentable with the angle grinder, ROFL. I am also negotiating to buy back her original engine as I think it might help with possible future registration (matching numbers would have to be helpful, LOL) Donor vehicle is gone too.

    4afte??

You would have to run 4age dizzy and ecu etc. unless you are running aftermarket ecu
  15. If Tony was indeed the first owner/importer of this car, I would like to get in contact with him as I will probably try for registration further down the track, which he might be able to help with (paperwork)
  16. Previous owner found Tasmania registration papers for lazarust from 1st Australian owner, registration just became that much easier! (If it met criteria for registration once, then as long as its roadworthy, I should be able to get it again). RX7 just shat itself, so that makes registration more attractive. No money, but plenty to do with welder, so I'm happy.
  17. Boy, such a long wait for progress. I finally got an ebay welder and some 8mm gasless wire and have been teaching myself to weld on the poor car! Its a looooong way to go, but at least I can start making some some small progress. Starting to think about maybe trying to get rego. one day. I bought the car with no papers, and it doesn't have a compliance plate. I want it to be all above board, so I am not going to try any dodgy shit, but given that its going to have a lot of T18 components when finished, and it is basically a T18 with a different back, can I convince the authorities to treat it as one for rego. purposes? Given its age (pre-1986) and the fact that it is even here, (would have had to have been imported with the intention of registration, or race/rally) I should also be able to convince the authorities to allow registration under the previous "over 15 year old" rule. Regardless, I am going to fix up the shell and get it running, and at the very least have some circuit fun in it. Will get some pics of my dodgy welding later. machg
  18. search is your friend
  19. Wow! Thanks heaps for the info, its great to learn the subtle differences in Toyotas.
  20. Called in at house where corona is in paddock, no one home, took a pic, but can't upload atm, will try again tomorrow
  21. Yeah, might investigate a bit more tomorrow. I plan to drift and circuit club day the car, will be running a 7age initially, but will probably turbo it not too far down the track, so I would rather err on the stronger side. It could be an auto even, so not getting my hopes up yet.
  22. Happened to spy a 1983ish corona sitting in a paddock near my place. What bits could be used in a TE71 build? I have a A to T series bellhousing, can this be made to fit a corona gearbox? I am guessing the diff wil be a bit wider than a TE71, how much wider? I am interested because I know corona stuff is stronger than T series stuff and I would rather over engineer the driveline.
  23. Are you going to do more panel beating, or leave the "fully sik bro" drift damage? Should post some pics for giggles. How to set up an early Corolla for drift info would be good too. Check the sealing of your petrol cap, I suspect it may be leaking. :hmm:
  24. Dude, I hope you don't take this as an insult, I marvel at what you have managed to do without spending craploads of money, especially given some of the hurdles you have had to overcome. Awesome. My project has pretty much stalled due to a lack of funds, I can only do stuff that costs $0, mmmm, sound deadening removal, great fun, NOT.
