If you want to be different, put the 4AGE into a VN commodore. I bet that hasnt been done before. :P V6 corolla would go well in the straight line thats for sure.. Remember dropping the engine in is the easy part. Running hoses, brake upgrades, wiring, converting a carby car into F.I is another hassle. I started by trying to put a 1JZ into a VN. Engine fitted a treat, better than the V6 did. But I ended up runnign out of money/time before finishing it. I regret it now too. Should have finished it!

Looking great mate. With the pipes that run into your strut tower, are they tied to the struts at all or just the tower itself? Ive always wondered about this. Would it be useful to have the pipes welded to a piece of plate that the struts themselves bolt to (same as the strut top) and then through the strut top. Then the whole thing is braced and secure. Maybe I'm completely on the wrong track here -Shaun

Hammertone FTW. Your able to paint it on with a brush and it levels itself out. It'll never chip and you wont have to buff it. On the other hand, it'll never shine and look like your driving a piece of gym equipment.

I agree that a real car is either AWD or RWD however there is still plenty of merit with FWD. Everytime I drive the Celica (120kW Mr2 engine) in an St162 (hair dressers car) I get a big smile on my face. Maybe thats because I'm doing 100kp/h through tree lined roads around a 10 000 acre farm? Still bucket loads of fun. Twinky Ae82 anyone? Crap load of fun with only 100kW

As its only a rally paddock bashed type,. Don't worry to much about weight loss. Strip it out for nothing. remove the old seat belts, move the air intake inside the cabin (avoid dust). remove the rear half of the exhaust (keep the first muffler/cat to avoid fires), remove rear seats, head liner, lower part of the dash etc etc.. Sound deadner if you want to. Mucho fun! I just got back from a weekend where we had my St162 as a rally car, the VN commodore (mine too) and the 88 Laser. Awsome fun. My mate rolled the VN but its still drives. I'm going to pull out the glass and bend the roof up. Stock car style.

Awsome! Love your work on this. I bet its a blast to drive on the track.

Voodoo. Nah, it uses an electrical sensor and then you run the wire from it inside the cabin to the guage. Mechanical water temp is alright though. Its just harder to install.

Do it! I have a spare 3.8 in the garage. If I had a spare hatchi Id do it. Sure it wont get registered but I'm sure it'd go well. There are a crap load of parts around for them. People are putting turbos on them now too. Good drag car/daily (if you can get away with it) I'm sure if you had a real quiet exhaust and were careful you wouldnt even get pulled over.

I love school holidays. Rotor into KE30 has been done many times before. Rotor into any RWD corolla is a recipe for fun. don't bother with a 1986 corolla and a rotor. Get yourself a 4AGE and use that.

It'll cost you a lot more than you initially realise. I'm up to $5k with putting a 1JZ into a VN commodore, and its not even in the bay yet. I think another 1K and it'll be in and running. I still need to make the rear cross member, wiring, exhaust/intercooler piping, new radiator, fuel line, various other things, just to get it running. The list never ends. Then theres suspension upgrades, brakes, etc etc. Putting things where they arnt suppost to go is expensive!

Negative. The problem is that they are a lot heavier and a LOT longer/wider. A few people have put 1JZ into Corollas. One guy on Toymods has done it. I am putting a 1JZ into a VN engine bay, and its a hell of a lot bigger.. and Its still hard. Fire wall cutting will be necessary unless you want your engine out the front of the bay! In short.. Better engines and better cars available

I picked up mine for $200 and its rated to 2 tonne. If you ever think you might use it again, just buy one for yourself.

4ac Turbo Or 4ac N/a (paradise Racing)
Neonasty replied to Toyparts Industries's topic in Engine Conversions
Just had an idea. Freshen up the standard engine and make it healthy. Exhaust/intake etc. then take $1000 and swap that for a wet nitros kit. Install. take to track. Hit nitros around corner for drifto action. be sure to read CAMS for rules re: power adders before. -
4ac Turbo Or 4ac N/a (paradise Racing)
Neonasty replied to Toyparts Industries's topic in Engine Conversions
If you want the engine to race. You want light weight. This gets rid of the idea of 2.5 6 cylinders etc. V8s blah blah... 4 cylinder or rotor. Cost Vs performance. Part availability Vs being different. Ease of install may also limit your options. I can see where your coming from. Shit I really wanted something different and now I'm putting a 1JZ into a VN commodore. I'm up to 5K and all I have is a car thats partially stripped with a stock V6 in the garage and a 1JZ next to it. The engine itself will only be half of the money spent. Remember that you are also going to have to convert carbie to EFI. More money. If I knew anything about rotors Id put a 12A or 13B non turbo carbie into a KE70. Would frickin fly and its a light weight engine that would fit without cutting firewalls. -
Ive got a spare V6 lieing around now. I should clean it up and get myself a small Corolla to put it in. :) I doubt the transmission would fit without some major beating though. think I'll finish the currrent project first though. :D

HAHAH awsome. I love the Merc idea. I'm going to have a spare V6 engine around soon. It runs OK too. Might have to look into doing something with it down the track. At the moment I'm busy with another engine sshhhhhh *cough* 1jz *cough* Not corolla though. :D

Any new updates on this? Is it registered still? How on earth don't you get pulled over with the sound of a V6 AND the chirping of locked diff in a corolla? Maybe the cops are lazier in tassie?
-
2SC eh? That means that a 3SG would bolt in. :) Just convert it to EFI and RWD format and your laughing. :P

87' Twin Cam Ae82 Off Road Rally Project W/pics
Neonasty replied to BiGGy's topic in Rollaclub Rides
This is awsome! Congrats, it goes to show that you don't need to spend a whole lot of money for grass roots racing. Id love to enter my Celica for the same type of events and eventually get around to rallys etc. They look like great fun. Keep us up to date on how its going. -
ahh. I'm not sure. I actually got the car from my sister. I kind of do remember they replacing the rear shockers. God the suspension was soft though. It really needed some harder spring/shocker combos.
-
HEY SHIT! My old car! Awsome. Any idea when It'd be on the road? Id love to see it when you get it all done, actually I had prob better not. I didnt really want to sell it to you anyway. But I'm glad that it went to a good home (better than mine) I can tell you that we never changed the seats, and apart from the home I cut in the dash for the stereo, I didnt change shit. (speakers etc) The boot has a bit of silicone in the cross bracing, I used to have a 15" sub in there and it rattled something shocking. This fixed it good though!
-
WOW, you have really spent a lot of time working on this and thought it out. How much does it owe you now? I recenntly got myself a Chinese 250 in the frame of a PW80. Talk about wheel stands! It could do with some re wiring and the fuel tank leaked, but its all good now! Good luck with it. PS. 50Kph on a scooter is pretty damn quick!
