    Spotted

Spotted a white KE30 running a 4AGZE and TD04 at my mates house going for its first drive since completion :)
  2. This was what happened to the number 4 big end bearing.
  3. Cheers mate. To be honest i didn't think it would take as long as it did, but I'm glad i did it now. Mainly because i know i wont have to go through it all again for a long time!! Ill post up a photo tommorow of the destroyed big end bearing of the old 5K, 2 bearings are scored and number 4's was broken in half! Ive never rebuilt an engine before so a mild 5K should be a good starting point.
  4. Now that i've given the old girl a proper clean up i thought id post up a few details. While it is still far from finished i gave it a cut and polish just to see how the original paint (most of it) would look. Basicaly it started out like a dirty ass chalk board and now its back to its original white, with a brilliant shine through it. It took me about 13 hrs to complete from start to finish over a few days with a bit of gin time as well. Next time if i get carried away i might put the clay bar on it but i should really remove the rusted spots first. I used the meguiar's medium cutting compound and a $70 supercheap adjustable orbital buffer, I'm extremely happy with the results considering how it started. Now A few details about the car, Its a '73 with a 3K back in it after i destroyed the 5K with a K40 4spd. On the front it has ke55 hubs, calipers and rotors and on the back, ke30 axles cut 6mm and ke30 rear drums. 13x6 Jelly beans which are now all polished up. Future Plans: -Fix up all the rust -Rebuild the broken 5K to mild form and run that until I'm bored -Turbo 4AGZE or my spare LS1 if i want to be stupid about it!
  5. *Update* Ok, first thanks to Davros for the replacement pushrods but....... When i finally got around to checking it today i found out that i have solid lifters in my 5K. Ball to cup and about 1 inch longer than the hydraulic lifter pushrods!!! All the rods looked fairly straight, some wobbled a couple of thou when i rolled them but overall looked good. I thought 5K's were noisy because there old, but i guess it was the solids! There was a little bit of play between the cups and the lifters when the valve was fully closed, what is considered acceptable? I think i will take it to my mechanic on the weekend to find out the problem, as i don't have the time or facilities to rip it apart.
  6. Thanks mate i might take you up on that offer! Bloody hard finding 5K's at wreckers now, PM sent.
  7. Cheers for the replies guys, Ill have to scourer the wreckers for some 5K's rods and if that doesnt fix it ill take it to my mechanic. Great! If thats the case ill have two slappers! My twin turbo LS1 thats nearly finished started slapping a while ago. Sounds alot louder in the rolla though. It wasn't down shifting, it was reving the ring out of it being a dick!
  8. Gday everyone, I'm just after a bit of info about the 5K pushrods, bit of background info first. Ive got a KE20 daily with a 5K and after a bit of spirited driving (over rev) ive got a loud knock in my engine. I initially thought it might be a big end bearing mainly because it was quite loud, however it is only there after around 3-4k rpm and not apparent under load, so i think its probably a bent pushrod. Are the 3K pushrods the same size as the 5K? or can i only use 5K ones? Is there anyone in Adelaide that has some good condition 5K (or 3K if they fit) pushrods? Cheers
