  1. Any updates? I went mad a week ago and bought a rough XA coupe, wont start work on mine for a bit but still excited about it, Jes
  2. YAY, nice to see this coming together Ben! That new section under the back windscreen looks good, I can't wait to see it in one colour :) . Did you get the rust repair section from rare spares of fab it up yourself? Keep up the good work, Jes
  3. Howdy did you go on Friday night mate, did you run this down the 1/4? Jes
  4. Thanks mate, much appreciated for the reply. Sorry if I was unclear, re: keeping them captive. I mean tweaking the cut ends flat so the spring has a level surface to sit on at both ends. Nah I wont do it at 2 am and the daily is AWD and the Ke70 is too gutless so no skids for me :( . I love your rally car thread also, have read it several times! Jes
  5. Ok cobbers, I'm planning to do the falcon springs in the ke70 trick. I'm aware of the legalities etc and I know spring rate changes when cut. I plan to bend the cut ends level to keep them captive and avoid them jumping out and spearing the tyres. I'm want it a little lower with a firmer ride which wont shake my fillings out, not dorifto spec - can anyone advise whether I should grab EB-AU King Springs or just Falcon stockies for this purpose. Can also do Kings rear, stockies front if its a better compromise? Will be upgrading to short stroke shocks also.
  6. Very nice, sounds great, well done bro! What ended up being the drama with the adaptronic / wiring ? I'm going 3rz but havent decided whether to go basic mods and keep stock ecu or lash out on aftermarket. Wiring scares me but glad you overcame it! Jes
  7. My made has one of those lift pumps in his ca18 datto 1200, mounted on rubber and its still bloody loud, definitely worse though when priming, settles down slightly after running a little. Hope you get it sorted, Jes
  8. Good work matey, Keep it up! I keep looking for your updates all the time as its a great read. You must be excited to be this close, I'm very frustrated that my own projects arent progressing quickly at the moment but oh well, thats life :) cheers, Jes
  9. Nice work everywhere! I especially like your diff jig and that you managed to fudge your motor and gearbox mounts until you were able to use a stock tailshaft, very clever :) . Keep it up, Jes
  10. Any update? Ive been checking here everday and I think this is the longest time we've heard nothing :) , whens the dynotune happening? Hope everything is going well, Jes
  11. Nice, go for a drive and enjoy it :) . Just examining the pricetag, could you share what were the several largest expenses in the build? Jes
  12. Thanks for the reply Dave! ITB did cross my mind as another possible solution, Its just a little sad when you want to increase fuelling( or convert to ITB) in an efi system you need to buy so much stuff to do it (aftermarket ecu, usually bigger injectors and fuel pump/ reg) to run it all. Cheers Jes
  13. Ok, I'm aware some people wont like this. I'm aware dept of transport also wouldnt like this.... But I'm interested anyway. Early 3rz's ran a distributor of sorts, i believe the later ones still have the hole in the head for the dizzy, just blanked off. I'm just wondering whether it would be a massive backwards step performance wise to convert an efi 3rz to carb and dizzy. My reasons are simple, I just really like webers/dellortos :) . They sound hot! By my way of thinking an efi 3rz is a 2.7L four which makes about 150hp (flywheel) at 4500-5000ish rpm. Lots of 2L 4 cyls can make that at high rpm with webers, so I'm guessing the carbs wouldnt know if they happen to be on a 2L 4cyl making 150hp at 7500-8000 rpm or a 2.7 making 150 at 4500 rpm? Anyway was just wondering what the general consensus was from other people, from a performance point, disregarding emissions and economy which would obviously suffer. Ive seen 4age's and sr20s running sidedraft carbs and was just thinking it could be cool. Aparently LCE in the states have built 2rz and 3rz NA carb motors for people in racing classes that specify carbs so it has been done anyway. Interested to hear some thoughts. Jes
  14. Why no more quad carb? Oh well, good luck with the refurb, Jes
  15. Looking good mate, air filters are sweet and you must be so close now, keep it up! Jes
  16. Where is propane mentioned, i thought he said liquified petroleum gas? Well the mate did plenty of research, but as you say not many lpg people get it right, bummer hey. Bueno
  17. Umm why do you have LPG on a car that already uses bugger all fuel? I say leave the gas for bbqs and go either 4AGE or SR20, as they are both tried and true, easy to get parts for and probably the most affordable conversions you can do. My mate read up on lpg heaps about some cars making more power than on petrol when setup right. Then he put his 2.5l turbo nissan stagea on LPG and guess what? Like nearly every other lpg converted car in the world it lost power and doesnt run as smooth. Darn hey? Sure we'd all rather something unique that hasnt been done heaps of times before but in the world of engine conversions "unique" is kindof another way of saying hasnt been done before so usually costs more and takes longer as you have to do all the research and development yourself. Whichever way you go, Keep us posted and start a thread? Bueno
  18. Hey Dude, Ive read your thread before, just read the lastest few posts now and I must say its coming together nicely and looking good, a very enjoyable read :) . I particularly liked your playdoh/sump clearance idea, I'll use it when I attack the 3rz sump for sure. Just a quick heads up, ive used that flameproof paint on extractors before, it helps preserve metal from rust but its not permanent, If you want a really sweet finish ceramic coated chrome look is the cats pyjamas http://www.competitioncoatings.com.au/exhaust.shtml. Anyway I'm sure you know what youre doing, keep up the good work, Jes
  19. 50k for a poverty pack mustang or fix the Ke70? Just in case you havent thought about it, theres actually a lot of cars between these two options. Seriously, 25k will by you a very fast used r32/33gtr, 2jz powered supra, fd3s rx7, evo lancer, subaru wrx, a real 60s or 70s mustang or many other awesome cars you will remember/ miss for the rest of your life. I can't understand why anyone would buy new when theres so few new cars worth owning, just to watch it depreciated by half its value in 2-3 yrs when you can buy in at the point and own an "almost new" car at a fraction of the price. New mustang? Not on your nelly. Blow 30k on a ke70? No way either, do it for 10k, or buy someone elses already done for that price. Jes
  20. Ive had good results on rusty chrome bmx frames and bumpers with a lump of folded alfoil and vinegar. The alfoil is very soft so doesnt leave any scratch marks as you rub it and the vinegar helps dissolve the rust. Jes
  21. Gday mate, yes divided turbos can be used on an undivided manifold though you might lose 100-200 rpm of response, which you probably wouldnt notice anyway. Just my 2c but ive heard from a lot of guys that the gtx series don't really live up to the hype, for all their fancy billet wheel goodness some dyno comparison have shown little to no extra peak hp gain (a little more midrange though) compared to the older Gt garrett series turbos. If you can afford it, thats not to say its not worth trying but for the $700-800 price difference i wouldnt personally choose a gtx turbo. I ran a gt2871r for ages on an rb20det nissan cefiro which was very responsive and made about 250hp at 15psi, could have safely run more. While i like Garrett usually, also worth considering is the new Borg Warner EFR series, competitive on price and lots of guys making good hp with them. This guy has a Borg Warner EFR 6258 on a 1.6 mx5 , so same engine size as you, making 270hp(201kw) on 12psi. http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=415639 http://australia.vividracing.com/catalog/borgwarner-turbos-m-830.html also a fraction cheaper than the gtx at $1950 ish depending who you buy through (gcg has them listed at. $2200) Anyway have fun, should be a blast compared to NA 4age, Jes
  22. Buz, was jokin earlier. I havent consulted an engineer yet but will do before the install to see what they need me to do ie brake upgrade or whatever. For now I'm just going to rego the car as is (stock 4k auto yeeha), then collect the rest of neccessary bits for the job. I also have another project car almost finished which is kindof 1st priority at the moment (as the missus continually reminds me), so will keep on with that before starting on the ke70. Cheers Jes
  23. No, real men go off half cocked then have to do stuff twice and sell other stuff at a loss :) . Its going to be NA so falls inside capacity guidelines. Jes
  24. So I looked at a 3RZ with motor, box, ecu and wiring, tailshaft and radiator this morning at 10, 2 hrs later its on my trailer heading home.....
  25. The fabrication in this show has been pretty awesome throughout the series, makes mighty car mods look like amateurs! The amount of work involved in the tilt front end setup is pretty special, plenty inspirational to make me go do some work myself, Jes
