  1. Not a massive update, just been sorting my other car to sell...trying to keep 3 cars on the road is stupid.. My aim is to set small goals at a time so i can keep chipping away at it which i feel is better than not doing anything at all. So today amongst everything else, i made some spacers to even out the x-member and it worked a treat!
  2. Not a bad idea cheers, ive baffelled my sump so she can stay for now till its running then go from there, thats my main aim
  3. After taking the engine/box in and out a good 20 times i think ive got the position sussed..not the happiest but I'm almost ready to throw a match at it so it can stay there. My issue was that basically the engine needs to sit lower as the driveshaft interferes with the hand brake whilst the engine is level, but i can't do that or else the sump almost hits the rack + i cbf'd making new mounts. so i tilted the engine back more but i found the dizzy was hitting the firewall, i also found the shifter hit the center brace when engaging 1st/3rd/5th. Cut both out sorted. next was the x-member i noticed was going to work, then the trumpet was fouling the booster fff$$#!@#!! in too deep now, added a spacer to one of the mounts so trumpet isnt fouling, cut hole in firewall, completely chopped of center of brace now i can use my factory x-member along with the ones i made...shouldve got that ae85.. next step is to make a few spacers for the x-member then on to making up the new top half of the tunnel..with my greeat fab skills this is going to be funn
  4. The engine mounts I have are quite solid but will give it plenty of clearance once i make the top half of the tunnel. I have a few pieces yet to bang/cut out, just finishing off the x member now then work that out after, can space up the gbox mount if need be later.
  5. Try this again... Long story short life and dads junk got in the way lol, been mishing for the past year to get the house and garage sorted which is now done (shelving works a treat...in the storage form..) soo no excuses now!! gah.. me box is too big, had to get my trim on..whos awesome idea was it to put this lump in instead of a humble t50... -_- Never-the-less shes in, bit of an angle or else i wont have room for the hoop but meh i just want to get it done and driving. Will weld some gussets/bracing to the box mounts and make it all flashy tomorrow!
  6. thats amazing!!
  7. I broke a sledge hammer trying that lol. Too much to move, I'm waiting for Sam's relocation kit which will help a lot Another issue is I have to drop the subframe a bit in order to get the bell housing to fit between it and the firewall as I don't want to cut it but no biggie
  8. Dam its been way too long! I havent managed to get too far due to parts and doing home rennovations etc. heres the goods from SQ that i have been waiting for ever since there was talk of it first in NZ to have this beauty  I had a jam at fitting up the gearbox, the plate works perfectly but the tunnel is way too small, so once all the reno stuff is done i can get into cutting open the tunnel and making up a x-member then onto the good stuff :)
  9. Finally am able to update! Done a few things here and there but am still eagerly awaiting the completion of my gearbox adapter then she's all go. Got rid of the rising sun for you LittleRedSpirit lol, goal is to get the engine and bay as clean & clutter free as possible. With the hydro tensioners being prone to failure I decided to drill a hole, let all the fluid out, tap the hole and loctite a bolt with a lock nut on. Thanks to a misunderstanding on the machinists behalf I now have a pair of hub rings, this is used to secure the brake rotor rather than using nuts and bolts which would've been suffice but can't complain. don't have a before pic but just imagine these used to be on a boganed up, RfnB, matty b'd kp and some hua decided it'll be a great idea to cut the wires off leaving 1mm to spare and painted the lens' solid black.. Thanks for reading :)
  10. cheers man haha don't worry i have paint stripper at the ready.
  11. PROGRESS!! Thankfully everything fits as it should, was worried the clutch m/s was going to be in the way, striked lucky there Diamond in the rough.. On a downer I found more rust...decided i'm just going to por15 the f@#k out of every patch of rust on the body and be done with it. Bring on tomorrow!
  12. Replaced the injector seals tonight and fitted up the intake which I painted last night. Hated how the manifold was clustered with ugly crap, decided to do away with the supports, flip the tps & swapped the vacuum hose fittings that run to the booster end to end. pipe is a near perfect fit. Heres my previous painting mishap, but its growing on me.. thoughts?
  13. Agreed, looks sweet man. Like what you've done with the bulkhead connector.
  14. ENGINE ARRIVED!! So back to it, lubed up a few rods and pushed them into their holes Did a few mods to the oil pump (thanks for the tips Samq), smoothed out the sharp edges & increased the exit curve of the main oil feed port if that makes any sense? With the new cams/pistons etc I made sure that vvt isn't going to mess things up. Chucked some plasticine on the dome & with use of a second hand TRD h/g (cheers Mark aka CorollaGT) Torqued the head down. As per thread on measuring P to V clearance I timed it all up, cranked it over 30 Degrees which is 15 degrees at the cam, marked the intake cam and reset the exhaust cam and crank back to tdc. Thankfully she all checked out sweet so off came the head again, cleaned everything up, new TRD headgasket etc. Excuse the heinous paint work, used too takier masking tape and it peeled half the paint off... Need to make up a few things tomorrow so can dial in the exhaust cam then should be sweet for test fitting the boeast!
  15. hahaha Love the bread trick, never heard of that one aye. Sweet ride man, F series definitely the way to go if you can get one. Alot of people here just whack in Hilux g series diffs, pick one up for about 500 with ramped LSD.
  16. TRD 2-way LSD arrived from Japan yesterday thanks to Alex at MLRacing. Set about stripping it apart then reassembling/fitting with new bearings etc & TRD solid pinion spacer. Thankfully the items description was right as she was in near perfect condition. Bit of a laugh, found some real, "she'll be right" stuff under the pinion bearing haha. Few hours later had the backlash set correctly just a bit iffy with the tooth contact, will have to grab some engineers blue next week to double check. Other than that she's sweet So anyone after a Locked small spline diff? overrated condition, one lady owner.
  17. Threw in an AJPS 25mm lock spacer and 6mm spacer ring on the opposite side.
  18. Made use of the long weekend to get lingering jobs done. Fitted an AE86 Clutch master cylinder, used the modded clutch pedal from the spare kp but had to shoulder the bolt so the clutch rod will fit and drilled a small hole in the end for a split pin to thread through. I added another plate behind the master cylinder for support and to reduce flex, might add gussets to the pedal but will see how it goes for now. Upgraded the front brakes to AE101 calipers with 260mm rotors and made up a pair of adapters, thanks Kris for the ideas. Cut out the inner skin and pumped out the guards some more Also found the sweet og tag from behind the heater box.
  19. Got the old motor and box out today, managed to sell the motor to my work! Didnt get to pump the guards out today but stripped the other motor back down to send it away for honing.
  20. Some more solid progress :D T series diff in along with AE86 rear adjustable suspension. All fitted up a treat. Arches need a bit more pumping but will sort that tomorrow.
  21. Thanks man, the brown Momo is actually growing on me now, may have to leave it that way.
  22. But anyways on a brighter note suspension arrived today Straight after work got stuck in fitting a set of bug eye steering arms along with the front coilovers. Comparison pic, bug eye arm left, Slant front arm right. As you can see the kingpin inclination angle is set differently. Barry at MRP did an amazing job with these, custom camber adjustable top hats, adaptor sleeves fillet welded to original hubs then sent away for magnetic crack testing. Car looks in a bit of a mess at the moment since work has been on a major halt due to the lack of front suspension. More interesting stuff tomorrow.
  23. Gotta love 80's originality :D I think due to having the spare shell made it so much easier.
  24. I was in two minds whether to spray it or not, Momo will end up being the passengers seat so could live with it being beige/brown/cow hide lol
  25. Thanks LittleRedSpirit. Been a little while since anything solid has happened, cleaned down all my engine parts and started assembling. Painted block and fitted new brass frost plugs for more bling. Cleaned with white spirits, hence the rust looking colour. Mucked around for a few hours customizing the factory brackets to fit my new Momo Corse, will dye it black at some stage. Head needs 8 new valve shims to suit the cams & block needs stripping again to re-bore for what i found to be oversized pistons.... stupid mistake, real f!@#ed off about it but ahwell, theres about a month and a half lead time on the rwd cooling kit and g-box adapter plate anyways. Heres hoping that my suspension arrives next week!!
