  1. The fuel economy in my kluger went bad. A new air filter and a good clean of the mass air flow sensor fixed it.
  2. Did you tighten the locking bolt on the distributor after you adjusted the timing? Maybe it's moved. Just an idea.
  3. I thought the rule was that for an engine swap from the same family of engines, if the power increase isn't more than 20%,it doesn't need to be engineered. 3k to 4k is within this. I registered a ke35 with a 4k in Perth three years ago with no problem. Maybe the rule has changed though. I think the rules are the same Australia wide now.
  4. thta's why I posted the photos (just to be annoying!) Good luck.
  5. Just to prove that the elusive passenger mirror does exist. I got this set from Gumtree for my 1978 ke35. Even harder than finding the lhs mirror, is the plastic base that it sits on .
  6. Yes they do exist. I think they were on a liteace. Difficult to find though. You'll need to drill two holes in the door. Awesome first car.
  7. Thanks. It looks like it might be designed to come off but I wasnt sure. I found another rocker cover to solve the problem. I'll be more careful next time.
  8. I'm trying to extract the remains of a pcv valve grommet from inside the rocker cover. Is there a way to remove this plate without damaging it?
  9. I found I had an exhaust manifold leak from around a bolt holding the extractors on. I think I'm meant to cut the washer in half to make it fit. For now, I've plugged the hole with gasket cement. Apart from running better when it's cold, the fuel consumption dropped from 12L/100km to 9.5L/100. I thought that was quite significant for such a minor leak.
  10. If you're still in Kyoto, check out 'Gear' It's a stage show, totally awesome. Have fun. Japan's an awesome place to travel around.
  11. Try and do a car factory tour while your there. I've done the Toyota one a couple of times. You book online. It's In Toyota City, just south of Nagoya.
  12. I've got a couple of old carbies so I might try swapping just one jet. I tried swapping the whole carby but it went like a dog with my foot flat to the floor. From memory, the 5k head makes about 13;1 and last time I checked the compression, the cylinders were about 155. The carbies ive got are all slightly different. Is there a difference with 3k/4k/5k carbies or are they the same? I had the fuel pump apart and the diaphragm looked fine.
  13. I remember altezza saying that the autos are about 8l per 100. It's quite likely just what happens when you rejet the Aisan carby.
  14. Maybe a vacuum line. It's all here anyway. http://holdenpaedia.oldholden.com/Trimatic_Faults
  15. I've got a 4k block/5k head motor in my ke35 attached to a trimatic. I had the carby rejetted a while back. I can't remember but I think the jets are one size larger than standard. As a city car, it goes great but it's a bit thirsty. I get about 12L per 100k. Obviously the larger jets use more fuel but I wondered if there's a fuel leak too. The carby seems OK, I've just had the fuel pump apart and that seems OK. Where else should I be looking? There's nothing obvious. Thank heaps.
  16. There's a few different methods for setting the tappets. (search this forum) mine need doing regularly but it sometimes takes a few goes to get it right (No more ticking) it's not hard.
  17. I'm not sure about the toyoglide, but with the trimatic that I have, if you overfill the oil, it goes frothy and doesn't change too well.
  18. It sounds like the one that goes to the charcoal cannister. Here's an old photo from my phone that might help.
  19. There's a car paint place in Perth that has a colour meter thingo they rest on the paint to get the colour mix and then they mix a rattle can using this formula. I've used them once and it was perfect. I'm sure you can find this in any city.
  20. If its pre 1978 ish, you can get a new one off ebay. If it's the dual cylinder rectangle version (late model ke30), you can buy a seals kit to refurbish the one you have.
  21. I've just received the insurance renewal for my ke35 and thought I'd share some info. I've heard of people paying some pretty high premiums. The car is stock and in excellent condition. With SGIO (nrma) it's $84 per year for comprehensive with an agreed value of $3500. They wouldn't go any higher on the value. The policy is a veteran, vintage and classic vehicle policy. The only restriction is that I can drive the car 10days a month. From memory, I think I get salvage rights. Hopefully this is helpful.
  22. Seatbelt solutions in Perth did mine so I could get the car rego'd. No problems. (ke35)
  23. However you look at it, I think this is an awesome forum with some really knowledgable people readily sharing everything they've learnt about old Corollas. There's no swearing and abuse you get on other forums. I'm sure some of my questions have been a bit dumb. I bought my ke35 about two years ago to learn about mechanics. My brain isn't mechanically minded but with some great help from this forum, and some googling too, I've managed to remove and reinstall the head, rebuild the master cyclinder and proportioning valve, change the modulator and adjust the bands on my trimatic, redo the brakes and a bunch of other things. I've got a really reliable 40 year old car that drives like a new one. I'm happy with any help at all.
  24. Thanks for the help. I think it's related to hot days too, but I'm not positive. It was 36 today.
  25. Fair enough. Thanks
