  1. Aparrently the extra cost of components required for "drive by wire" is negated by the lesser amount of time it takes to assemble the vehicle on the production line. It may only be a matter of seconds... but when you're churning out several thousand lumps of automotive compromise per day, those accumulated seconds equate to more units that can be produced per day... more profit.... *sigh*
  2. I love Yahoo. If only for the banner ads with spunky girls trying to sell me rediculous speed ADSL. That settles it. I'm going back again :bash:
  3. My shed is right next to a Toyota dealership. Sometimes, after 5pm, I see them beating orphans and poking kittens with pointy sticks. Horrible nasty people...
  4. I'm loving your incredibly safe tie downs there des... did you steal that skinny-ass rope from someone's washing line? And I'll bet you just left it hooked up to the winch... Hehehehe :bash:
  5. Had an echo as a company runabout.... not an overly rewarding driving experience but pretty indestructable. And as much as everyone bags them, my starlet is an infinitely nicer vehicle to own and drive even though its a model generation behind.

Oh this is tooo co-incedental. I smurfed around today measuring up a sierra chassis to put a suzuki 550 hatch body on top of... Difference in wheelbase? 50mm. :sob::D:D
  7. I think it looks like its been butchered by a Philipino bog artist... or maybe its the material realisation of a 10 year old's sketchbook rendering... f@$kin stupid spoilers and tacky plastic shit whacked on with no regard to the syling lines of the vehicle. 2c
  8. Just wait til they break down you'll be able to clutch it past em while they wait and save up zillions of bucks for parts
  9. That lada is phat. I used to have the same motor in a Fiat 124cc... The twin carbs sound porn under acceleration.
  10. Yes it's been done as its essentially the same as SR into AE86 which is quite common although you'll need to convert the KE70 to hydraulic clutch, also a very common procedure. Plenty of info available on this site and others... search and ye shall find.
  11. Its a speed restrictor... if that battleship was able to get up to any sort of speed it'd be dangerous... it probably weighs as much as a block of flats and handles just as well... Aaaah but then again, this was built around the time the interstate freeways were being built thereby eliminating the need to turn those pesky corners all the time...
  12. They also came with a tasty 2L v6 which would slot nicely into a rwd rolla engine bay... ahem back on topic
  13. That.... is frikkin sweet. I just aquired a suzuki 550 hatch that would fit in the back of that tank :hmm: Oh and how cool is it having a missus that helps you screw around with cars :sob:
  14. Don't bother. Massive custom fabrication involved. Lotsa $$$ Get a G16 block from a SWB Vitara or 4 door swift/barina, bolt the twincam head from the GTi swift on to it and it will be dangerously quick. Like scary quick. But if that doesn't sate your desire for prodigious torque steer and wheelspin there are a few bolt on turbo kits for the GTi twincam head. The other bonus with staying with suzuki bits is there's shiteloads of gear floating around really cheap due to the GTi's huge "boy racer" stint in the '90's which has now all but disappeared.
  15. And should you find yourself barrelling headlong toward a large body of water, (accidentally, or...erm... otherwise) feel safe in the knowledge that you will remain afloat for about 24 seconds, which should afford you plenty of time to get out before it sinks.
  16. Why is it a waste.... cos you can't power oversteer? This car would quite comfortably outperform most rwd rollas in every aspect. Especially wagons with leaf springs.
  17. Only if you're dodging wild scandinavian elk in a blizzard... I think these hold the record for the biggest headlights EVER.
  18. oh nothing.... nothing at all..... as long as it matches your cardigan.... hehehehehe :D
  19. The wiring loom in any car that had a variant within the model range equipped with a tacho should already have the wiring for the tacho incorporated in the loom, just not connected. This has always been the case in my experience anyway... form rollas to geminis, escorts, datsuns, commodores etc and all the later model stuff as well... whack the tacho in, find the right plug and away you go. And yeah... even if it doesn't have the wiring, you only need 4 wires to make it work. Coil signal, power, earth, and illumination. As far as your heater core goes, its essentially just a little radiator. I had a leaky one repaired in a VR commodore once and it cost me 50 odd bucks at a radiator workshop for the dude to find the holes and weld em up. If yours is corroded and beyond repair you would probably be better off adapting another one to fit rather than pay upwards of 400 snails for a new one. They're not terribly complicated devices and wouldn't be too difficult a job I would imagine.
  20. Well... I'm in cairns so everything rusts within minutes up here... I assume you'd have the same problem. I lived in Darwin for a bit actually... nice spot for a holiday if you can avoid being beaten up. Anyhoo.... back on topic... the wreckers up here don't bother with older stuff so pretty much everything I need for my pre-1990 cars I have to source from the filthy filthy southerners and pay extortionate amounts of money to be freighted up here... ie: AE70's seats I purchased not long ago cost me $130 to get here from brissy. A bonnet is over 100, fenders 50, pair of tail lights 30 etc etc... so there's a price to pay for living somewhere with green vegetation and more than enough water. So as far as crazy road trips go, yeah I'll be doing one shortly. Flying to brissy with my toolbox, raiding the wreckers and halfcut suppliers, renting a pantec and bringing back a whoooole truckload o stuff. Oh and quite often when find a car for sale which may have a few good bits on it I'll hook the trailer up and quite happily drive to Townsville or somewhere out in the sticks like hours and hours away to go pick it up...
  21. I'm genuinely speechless. I can only ever aspire to having that level of skill and talent... Not to mention the workshop... oh the workshop... the tools... the machines... the spotless floor! *sigh*
  22. Um... I googled "my dick" and a few pictures came up but I don't think any were mine...
  23. Its like a cradle. When the tyre is in place, the cradle is held up by a really long bolt, the head of which is the same diameter as the wheelnuts and is right next to the rear hatch striker.
  24. Pride? Aspire? Rather ambitious names for such a mediocre form of disposable transport ;)
