  1. The suck indeed... but at least being a later model it has the disc brake front ie: it actually stops. I'm considering removing the taillights completely and using some LED strips a la hotrod stylee... bumpers are pretty munted so I might leave them off too. Should look pretty phat with some wide whitewalls and moonies.
  2. Heh... thats the Malaysian one redwarf was referring to. I even posted that one on this site a few months back. Although, I think mine's worse... The malaysian one has a good bootlid
  3. Apparently engine fires are quite a common occurence in the volksies... the fuel pump is right next to the dizzy. Fuel lines get old and perished, bit of a squirt onto the dizzy and fwooomp you got yourself a toasty bug. I'm actually enjoying this as a bit of a learning experience.... did you know you can get a bellhousing that adapts a 13b rotary to the VW transaxle!? How cool would that be....
  4. OK... Just because a good deal comes along, doesn't mean I should accept it. Right? Wrong. Evidently, I should not be allowed to inspect potential automotive purchases without proper supervision... ie: don't bring girls with you when someone says, "hey, come check out this VW, you can have it for $100" because they will go "oooo isn't it cute.... BUY IT" which is not the kind of influence someone with an addiction to buying buckets of shite should have around them. Oh well. So now I own this little blue beastie. For 100 snails, its actually a pretty good buy. I think I'll just be restoring it to relatively original condition... but we all know how these things happen so it may end up becoming a beach buggy yet... I bought it off a filthy mexican (hence the nsw plates) who decided to move up here cos he wanted to live in a tree or some crap like that. Its been sitting under someone's house for a couple of years. The interior is pretty shagged (no tacky '70's pun intended) so that will ALL be coming out and retrimmed by my housemate, who happens to be a seamstress as well as possessing many other useful domestic talents. Seats will be donated by something about 30 years younger with two doors and a flip-forward mechanism so as to still permit access to the rear seat. (insert mallrats quote here) Even has a sunroof and a dinky winky little sports steering wheel  The Suspension is excellent, steering has no play, clutch feels fine and brakes are firm and seem to work well. Its a 71 so it has discs on the front. Bonus. It has very mininal rust, just a couple of external bubbles and a few small holes in the floorpan/internal sills. No major dents, bits falling off or potential headaches as far as bodywork is concerned, so that should be relatively easy. All the aluminum trims around the windows and doors etc are in good nic and aren't bent or broken or gone completely like most I've seen. Everything works... doors, boot, bonnet all shut properly, windows wind up AND down, switches, glovebox, ashtray... all good. Now... one smallish problem.... at some stage in the last couple of years, it had an engine fire. The engine still reciprocates, and there's oil in the sump, which is good. So first step is to swap some new ancillaries onto it and see if the little bastard will run, or whether I need to get another engine. Luckily, I have access to 3 other parts donor bugs :y: Stay tuned Jarad
  5. I am so very, very envious. But, I'm glad YOU went so at least I will be able to live vicariously through the pictures you are about to post
  6. Its been done, apparently its a monsterous f@$karound. I kinda reckon they don't look right on the sedan... In the 86 the liftback rear balances out the pointy nose. When its on a sedan it makes it look like a FWD econobox with too much overhang. But hey thats just my 2c don't let that sway ya... give it a whack
  7. Wanna buy it?

    *e7* Coups

Dude... ancient thread... then again you kiwis are a bit slow
  9. There's two up here.... well one is a silvia but they're both S13 with S15 front clip. Bought the front guards on the net.
  10. Its exactly the same jip... just with (quite a few) plastic bits and and aftermarket headlights and tail lights. Oh and the steering wheel is on the wrong side. Very "JDM sport compact" look... When I was in LA I saw heaps of cars cruising around (mostly civics) wearing this sorta style. I actually kinda like the look of this car... its rice, but I still dig it. Maybe 'cos its black, and not 7 million colours and covered in graphics and neon like all the rest... I think you've done well to achieve "the look" without going over the top. Well done
  11. aaah yes.. you see? Its all so pretty and shiny... oooh look at the robots... see them fight, see them save the day... mmmm happy endings make me feel warm and fuzzy.... but now, implanted firmly in the darkest recesses of your subconcious, is a small instinctual reaction that will influence how you purchase driving lights, or softdrink, or fully automatic submachine guns next time you go to buy some, and cars built by GM are really really good....
  12. Nah... leave it like that. Its got a "Tuscan" colour scheme
  13. Thanks... you've just made my starlet look reaaaally good
  14. Nice one... It won't let you down  Let me know if you need any parts, I pulled all the useful bits off mine and stored them for just such an occasion. :y:
  15. Dude you have an emoticon for a head...
  16. It could do without all the product placement.... "This Autobot is brought to you by 'Lightforce'. The first choice in automotive accessory lighting for all giant transforming sentient alien robots."
  17. I quite like the colour of the rocker covers... goes very well with the chocolate brown. Very classy indeed. Ditto for the zinc plating... Its sooo refreshing to see a car modified tastefully. Oh yes Teddy yours is very nice too... *pat pat pat*
  18. He's angry cos he keeps skinning knuckles trying to fit a 1UZ in a Fiat 500
  19. T series engines weigh more because they are made from melted down horseshoes and roofing nails and then bashed into a shape resembling an engine, by a blacksmith. Most T series engines we see today date from the Meiji era and were actually discovered by marine archaeologists at the bottom of Tokyo harbour with long lengths of anchor chain attached. They were then salvaged and reconditioned for automotive use.
  20. I had a KE70 wags once... made a false floor where the rear seats were and cut an old foam matress to suit. Drove around the whole country in that little bugger. 4 speed shat itself near darwin... in went a 5
  21. I have a few, for the one the missus drives I just whacked a weber and extractors and a 2" exhaust. Keeps up with barinas now and sounds pretty cool revving its guts out.
  22. I can give you tips
  23. I think we've progressed past speed holes... this thing has heroin holes.
  24. A piece of the lower rear 1/4 panel (complete with bumpstrip) fell off last night and set off the sonic detectors in the shed. Security company rings me at bumf@$k o'clock and I race down there expecting all my stuff gone.... Pffft. We had a cold snap up here last night so my theory is the metal (whats left of it) contracted and pulled itself away from the rust that was holding it there.
  25. Well, the hole is only gunna get bigger so replace it once you can hear a noticeable difference. Its only a 15 minute job for any exhaust shop, most expensive part is going to be the replacement muffler. Or, you can whack one of those shiny ones from Autobarn on there cos they're cheap, but people will probably laugh at you :P
