  1. Oh my Goodness, she might be 42 years old but what a fun car to play with, Funny that a bit of 100kph on a gravel road (some of it sideways) seems to have cured the temp gauge issue. I suspect that he needle was a bit sticky (spider webs maybe). Has anyone looked at Victorian Speedway Clubs junior class? 90% of the class is ke20 - ke55 corolla's and the kids make em fly.Sometimes more entertaining than the more senior racers
  2. Hi All, I've so far dismantalled the front of my ke20. Cleaning up the rust on the front lower front sill and cleaning up in general, Radiator is out (full of water so doesn't dry out and corode quiclly) Problem is Alt light is full bright with battery connected and ignition off. Temp answer is disconnect the battery when the car is not in use. Alternator is out of the car and can't find a short between the +and the wiring to the Alt globe on the dash. It still has the regulator conected and I'm wondering if this the prob? Any help eould be appreciatted. Cheers
  3. Thx for your reply. I'm on a disability pension so not much cash to spend on my passion (cars). Having said that I love working on cars when results can be seen. My daughter has one of the prettiest (Non standard) VL 6cyl Auto Calais around. We had to replace a fuel injector the other week and it took about 4 hours. In less than 3 hours I fitted new points, Fixed the accelerator pump jet (Blocked) I removed the radiator, front bumper, grille, battery holder, lower skirt panel (rusted) . Toyota where clever in the early models. Decision is made, I'm building the Corolla. My daughter and I are considering keeping Brudis ( My Calais) on the road. I'll update as the Rolla improves
  4. Ok, sorry if I put this in the wrong section. Car is not for sale at this stage. I was just after a bit of feedback as to other members thoughts on which way to go. Clearly the Calais has more creature comforts and goes harder but that comes with a hefty price tag called fuel bill and maintenance issues. Leaning towards the Corolla at present cuz it's already proved so easy to work on and it'll run on the exhaust emmisions of the Calais.
  5. Hi People, In my carport sits a very original Ke20 Corolla. Gotta decide now whether to build it and keep, which means donating the VL Calais to my daughter as a parts car, or selling the rolla. Nearly everything works.! The car had sat for 12 months when I picked it it up so a little freeze up in the brakes. Cleared up after a few km's It now drives like I'd expect an original Ke20 to. The boot lid is damaged (easily reparable) and she has the usual 'pop out' dents aroumd. There is one serious rust spot on the drivers side edge of the windscreen but I think repairable The rest is surface. Open to reasonable offers. Pics to come Pete
  6. Temp gauge doesn't work at all. I've earthed out the wire at the sender and nothing so I am assuming the problem is in the dash
  7. Hi All, I have become the proud and happy owner of a 1971 ke20 Corolla. For starters, I'm a 52 yr old male with a physical disability but my passion is cars. 30 years ago I was rallying a Datsun1600 at club level in Vic. Then played with Bluebirds, and finally a 240k speedway car in Alexandra Vic. Did that take some sorting! Anyway, to the newly aquired pocket rocket. Picked it up on a permit and drove it the 2km's home. Had'nt been moved for 12 months. After a bit of a run the brakes freed up, and with a quick (by ear) tune up she's running fine. So Question?... How do I get the dash panel out? Need to rerplace the high beam globe and fix the temp gauge? Any help would be so appreciated. Pete.
