  1. Thanks Guys. The build will continue very soon. The motor in the group b celica has done 5 years of hard rally and started to push oil out of the catch can at the last Orange Rally. Iam in the process of building a new improved version 3tgte for the upcoming events in August and the WRC in September. I should be back on the ke30 in the next few weeks. Its so close now to getting caged, painted and reassembled.
  2. I have the molds here if you ever decide you want a rally replica. Looks like a very nice ra65 and the coupe is getting very rare to find.
  3. It might be a 152e race motor they are using Steve. Based on the 18rg but with a 16 valve head. They were a little less rare back in the 80s.
  4. Its hard to find good people who give a s--t these days. I had to get my metal shrinking skills out of moth balls to fix this one. Managed to get most of it out, still a bit more to go. Off to Orange for a rally this weekend so hit it with some primer to stop it rusting and will worry about it next.
  5. Thanks Stephen. Got it back from the sand blaster who assured me he could strip it without warping any panels. He let one of the new guys have a go. The roof now looks like someone has bounced a basket ball on it. Sprayed a fish oil type product in all the had to get to places.
  6. A couple of finishing touches and its on some wheels, ready to go to the sand blasters.
  7. Thanks Daniel. Hi Lucas. The main reason I went for the Magnum over a standard t56 was the option of 3 different gear lever positions. It has a great close ratio gear set and super fast gear changes. Trany tunnel is done.
  8. More progress on the new trans tunnel.
  9. Ive seen remote boosters in older cars without mechanical linkage. If its for a rally car, it still is a fair weight to carry. The main reason for mounting the reservoir there, it allows the feed hoses to the pedal box to drop straight down. Mounting it lower in the engine bay creates clearance issues with the exhaust manifold, roll cage, throttle cable and steering coloum and the 3 hoses have to go through two 90 degree bends in the fire wall. There is a small weight issue but it seemed to be the lesser of two evils. Toyota had there reservoirs mounted in the same place in the group b car.
  10. Found a spot for the Tilton res. Keeps the fluid away from the exhaust and allows easy fitting of brake hoses to the pedal box.
  11. We will see you there. Bit more on the new trans tunnel.
  12. Ive never had any trouble with a fixed strut brace. The first round of the 2wd rally master is the Orange rally on the 25th May. Ill be entering the Celica. Will we be seeing the ra40 there?
  13. Strut brace made and fitted.
  14. Thanks Rob. Could be a good name for the car. "Frankenrolla" lol. New gearbox x member finished.
  15. Iam using old cut down top control arm mounts from a falcon as gear box mounts. Found they fit the celica bracket perfect.
  16. Engine mounts are tacked in position and started on a new trans tunnel for the gear box.
  17. Thanks, The tremec is a bit bigger but not much longer than a w55. It does weight about 20kg more than an alloy w55 supra box which is not good, but the weight is down low and almost central in the car to minimise its effect. Its in the car now, Just have to line everything up and make some mounts.
  18. Cheers Stuart. Deburred the housing and fitted to gearbox.
  19. Housing is done.
  20. Cheers Jake. Two halfs going together.
  21. Thanks Tony. One reason I used the tremec, It is close ratio with 2.66 1st as standard so no custom gears have to be made. It has 4 different gear leaver positions, cable or elec speedo sender, special sincros that allow fast changes above 7000rpm. Has lots of options and is very strong. All for $4000 brand new. Only fabrication is the bell houseing and gearbox mount. I think the toyota box with adapter and custom ratios will end up more expensive. A bit more progress on the adapter plate.
  22. Tell me more. Iam not at the point of no return yet. Whats a AZ6 out of?
  23. Hi Tony. Talk about Sods Law. Last year when there were plenty of events on, I had no car ready. This year I have a car ready to go and another on the way, but no where to race. My last proper rally was 18 months ago and it seems Ive been working on rally cars ever since. Ratio seems about right. For a speed rush, skydiving looks so much easier. Bit more done on the bell housing.
  24. Gearbox side of the bell housing is started.
  25. Thanks Rob. I ran this stuff in a Celica and then a Supra for a few years and found how to get best from it. Its all spare stuff Ive had laying around, so its getting used up. Just years of practice I guess. Cheers for the compliment Paul. What race cars do you have and where do you race? Started on the custom bell housing to connect a 2RZ engine to a t56 6 speed tremec magnum.
