Thanks, Its really taken some time to get back to work. Got to remove some unwanted brackets today, just a bit of soft porn for Chris Scott when he has a look.

Hey Rob. Ive never had any trouble with the floor after removing the x member. Its really only there to bolt the standard seats to. No real need to compensate I think, although this car will have a flat floor with a chassis rail as per the group b car. Removing all the captivated nuts to reduce weight. The holes will be covered with foil tape before paint.

Its been a while. Now the GT4 Celica 165 is all but ready for this years QRC and a bunch of other projects are coming to an end, I find myself revisiting this project. Chris Scott has been here for a day already cutting stuff out.

We rallied a 22re for a few years and did a lot of performance work on the engine with land cruiser pistons to up the bore and comp. A big cam and microtech ecu as well as the usual head and manifold work. Its a very strong motor and we had no problems, but the long stroke limited it to 6500rpm usable power. It only made 120bhp @ the wheels but had massive torque. Ive seen the 4lt quad cam v8 fit these Celicas very nicely. The Torsen LSD from a GT4 rear diff will fit your 65 centre.

Hey Justin, Looking good. Starting to look like a race car. One question, and I maybe wrong. Are the main hoop x brace joins to far in from the top roof bends? I remember reading some thing in the cams manual about braces being not farther than 100mm from a bend. I like the side intrusion bars. Are you going to plate over the join?

It is a lot of money, and Makela is the only place in the world to get an exact reproduction works body kit for these cars. I guess if you really want one, thats what you have to pay. There are a lot of body mods to fit those panels as well, they wont bolt to a standard shell. Mostly from the A pillar forward. Ive sold the old car, but still have the molds. They are already laid up with another set of panels ready for this car next year. It took 12 months and countless hours of looking at the Makela photos from a lot of different angles to get the shape of my molds looking half right. Still have many more hours to work out the metal work for this one as well.

Hi Pete, Yep Ive seen the site. A few years ago I was in contact with Mr Makela about a body kit for my first car. It was going to cost approx $30,000aus for the panels. This was when they were restoring the first car. I would also have to sign a document to state the panels would not be reproduced or copied. So I made my own as my car was going to be rallied with possible panel damage. There is a fellow in NZ who has bought a body kit from Finland and the car is being built by Neil Allport I believe. Iam sure he told me he paid $25000 but he did'nt get the fibreglass doors. The new project should really start to happen early next year. Have a great Xmas. Cheers.

Looking great, Why are the main hoop feet so big?

Stringy did put a short 10sec clip on facebook. Just don't know how to get it on here. I have some in car footage, but its slow as the balancer adjuster for the throttle bodys vibrated loose. The engine was loosing power and running rough. By the time we found the problem, the rally was all but over.

Some of those suckers just crack off with a twist and others think there holding the car together. What are you doing for a dash?

Thanks Justin and Stuart. Your right about the opposite lock. The rolla is 150kgs lighter than the old Celica and has a lot more grip. I found it hard to get my head around how late I need to brake now and how fast I can lean on it in the corners. Your body gets used to the G forces in a car and learns how much before it starts to slide. I need some more seat time to find the limits of this thing.

Id rather have a Toyota over a z car or 911. :offtopic: ;)

Thanks Rob. Yep, all the body mods and fabrication as near as I can get them. The roll cages were very basic back then, but I will build it with modern spec tubing so if it ends up racing, someone can just add to it and make it current. They were just bolt in and did'nt even have a brace on the main hoop.
