Would it be easier to get a second hand one from a wrecker and rebuild that? Its my daily so needs to be off the road for as small amount of time possible

Hey guys my 4ac is blowing a bit and using a mother load of oil (4-5 litres a month). I'm pretty sure the rings may be the cause. Is it possible to easily change the rings by leaving it in the car and remover head and sump or is it going to be a engine out job? Any help would be great
