You're a P plater right? Engine conversions are out of the question. Well, driving them legally is. As 5Ks were not in ke55's as an optional engine (pg. 16 of the pdf, down the bottom of the page, section 1.3.1.2 Type B) here in australia, you'll need a modplate. Technically, if your car has "a modification to the engine of a type that must be approved under the Transport Operations (Road Use Management—Vehicle Standards and Safety) Regulation 2010, section 13" which is an engine conversion (Read Section LA), you are driving a high powered vehicle. Yes, that's right folks, even a 5K swap is considered high powered. Then again, I'm sure there are bigger fish to fry than someone who swaps a K motor for another K motor. My 2c is to do more research (You can never do enough of this :P) and ask yourself some important questions. Why do I want another engine in my car? What is my mechanical ability? Do I have a place to carry out said work? What is my budget? I don't think a ke55 is going to go fast unless you are prepared to drop a fair amount of coin into it, whether that is worth or not is up to the individual. Regardless, if you're thinking of going down the K motor route, these are worth a read: How to Build a Tough "K" Motor How to Build a K Motor Whatever you decide to do, make sure you create a build thread and keep us all posted with your progess!

There'll be some on their site I hope! My phone camera wasn't going to do it justice :P

Lots of cars there, only a handful of of ke corollas though. Someone was there with a ke1x/ke2x (not too sure) with a 4agte stuffed into it, that was probably my pick of the lot haha.

I'm gonna go, hope to see some of you guys there! :y:

What a transformation! I hope to see this beast out and about brisbane in the future :y:

Sydney Based Mechanics That Work With 70-80 Rollas?
LongJohnSilver replied to Robin Mcc's topic in Automotive Discussion
That's his build thread, worth a reed if you are into ke70's as well as ke55's! Generally, these cars are not very hard to work on. Any proper mechanic should know how to work on an engine as simple as a K motor! -
Exhaust Modifcations On Ae82 Hatch
LongJohnSilver replied to brods's topic in AExx Corolla Discussion
I cut the muffler off my 4K powered car thinking it would be awesome. How wrong I was... Yes it will be louder, but there won't be a discernible exhaust note, It'll just be noise. Loud, loud noise. My ears used to hurt if I drove for any longer than 10 minutes. ^^ I second this. -
I like it! Don't mind the exhaust note it has now, far better than how it sounded on the stock headers, stock pipe and no muffler (That was truly a dark, dark week in the history of this car :P). I've got a couple of videos of it idling from all stages; stock, no rear muffler and when I first got it home after the exhaust was made. It also seems to have been getting progressively louder of the course of this month, it was quieter than the stock system when I got it haha. Thanks man! (Y)

Not yet, but as soon as I have two pennies to rub together I'll be buying an air filter for my weber! I'll letcha know how it goes

so 25 days later here are some pictures! I'm back at uni again so progress on this build will be very, very, very slow for the foreseeable future.

I've found this site useful for weber parts, based in Australia too! Generic 32/36 filter Ramflo 32/36 filter

^ This See if you can source a diff that has already been locked/welded, then you can use your open diff as a spare :y: In case you ever get a run in with the :fuzz:, you'll have more options Edit: Then again, any form of permanently locking a differential in a road car isn't encouraged or endorsed by myself and is especially frowned upon by the law.

I had an exhausting day today, Got a 2" system made up with a resonator and a straight through muffler by Performance Pipes in Acacia Ridge! I'll get some pics up tomorrow when it's light :D
-
Cheers Reed! I'll get one of my mates over to help me out with it too. I'll make sure my camera doesn't run out of batteries this time :P Oh yeah, I'm a green P-plater now. So I'm in the 2nd tier of the most inexperienced motorists on the road haha
-
Went down to my local exhaust shop and they told me: $380 for the 2" system with a resonator and muffler $170 to fit the extractors I lol'd at the $170 to fit the extractors, seeing as thats more that double what I paid for them! Might have a crack at putting them on myself, seeing as I have the right gasket in my possession. If anyone has done this before, I'm all ears for advice! :y:
-
Painted the extractors today! mmm flat black. Off to the exhaust shop tomorrow to book myself a 2" system with a resonator and a sports muffler!
-
Take a read of this if you haven't already, I found it quite interesting! If you like power though you'll probably get sick of the K motor haha

Cleaned up the extractors I have today, not perfect but a whole lot better than they were! I'll paint them tomorrow if all goes to plan, then off to the exhaust shop to book myself a system! I also need to go get my green P's too, might even treat myself to some brand spanking new plates :P

That brace is a great idea! I'll have to do something similar, my headunit is just sorta jammed in there at the minute :P

If it's a 4 speed attached to a K engine, it could be a K40 gearbox. Give this a read. Even if it doesn't help with your current problem, it's still interesting :P .

Thanks man! Planning to get heaps of stuff done while I'm still on holidays haha
