I currently have 76 rolla carbs on my ke70. I'm in the process of reconditioning the engine and would like a carbs from a ke70 (early 80's) to recon does anyone have 1 or would i be ok reconing the 1 i have?
-
You'll be looking min. $250 to get someone to recondition carbi, if your going to do it get a carbi kit and do it yourself. For absolute novices every time you pull a piece off take a picture to refer back to later. Can't go wrong. As altezza said may not be carbi all other options are cheaper. Sounds to me like your fuel line is blocked and your not getting enough fuel for the revs into second. My old girl idled ok when sitting and ok through gears but when slowing down for lights would start to splutter and stall, new fuel line fixed her.

To adjust timing loosen carbi and turn it slightly revs will increase. Points are a little difficult to explain, grab a service manual and read up, not hard to do. I had the same problem, adjusted timing and points to find it didn't really help I replaced carbi just to find that I still had the same problem. I changed fuel filter and the last thing I did was replace the fuel line to find that was the problem :bash: common problem when they have been sitting for awhile.

First coat down, cleaned it out with wire brush and then degreaser on greasy spots then wiped down. Finished at 10:30 so had to use my bedside touch lamp :laff: Next for the underbody. I'm just painting to avoid taking of the chrome strip's :laff: The paint is under body sealant (should never rust now) and sound deadner.

mmmmmmmmm i like it where did you find the mirrors?

This is the idea for the paint job. Black flares chrome bumpers round lights. More progress today, dash finally out and new dash preped ready to go in, bonnet off, door skins removed and cleaned inside. For all of you with a keen eye this is Spencers old girl, very similar to what i want my car to look like.

What would you suggest altezzaclub for everyday use?

Alright willis I'll give it a go.

Skills are a bit above basic but I'm hoping my desire to see the old girl shine again will get me to the finish line. I have helped numerous friends rebuild cars and had plans to rebuild my ke-70 for sometime but I want to do it by myself as much as I can. To prove to myself that I can do it and to stick it up the doubters. My brother is a spray painter so once I do all the prep work I'll roll it into his booth, probably get him to paint her, would like her to be done properly. Still not real sure would like to learn. Partner is the artistic 1 in this relationship so she will be doing the door skins black and grey with a little green beading (as seen in pic below). May very slightly but I don't want to make it too difficult for her because she will hand stitch it all. Was going to have the grey at the bottom but thought it will get to dirty. Dash, seats, and carpet are all going to be black and I'm going to keep the door rubbers etc. grey, just going to clean up the original pieces. That's the plans as we sit but we will see how much it changes as we go.

slut. I want a ride.
-
But I have to take them off to paint right. If I tape them up and paint around them it may look a little dodgy. I really don't want to have to touch them.
-
If i stuff them up i know their not easy to come by but how much will i be looking at to replace them amd where would i find them?
-
Has anyone discovered the magic formula to removing the chrome strips above the doors without bending them?
-
that would be great cheers

The only rust is in the surface rust in the rear and she is very straight except drivers doors where someone has been bumping the door with their hip when it hasn't closed properly. Dash has a crack and carpet on drivers side is torn and carbi blocked that's it. So many ideas, it really depends on what colour of the interior I put in. Don't want to keep light blue. Found dash with no crack yesterday (brown), which wouldn't be my first choice of colour either, I'm sure working out what colours to use is the hardest part :laff: . Also picked up factory flat front guards that must have been left in the box all their lives. Box must have got damp and now they have surface rust but will clean up beautifully. Also Splitter and a bonnet with minor little dents all for $120 bargain. So now have all my panels I want, must start the sanding, not my favourite part. To begin with I'm just going to re con the 4-k (not that it really needs it, motor runs well) but I need to find a carbi currently has carbi from 76 ke-55 but it's a bit blocked. Not sure if there's much difference's other then anti pollution but would like one from a ke-70. Once body work done and engines in I will look into getting a 4-age 16 valve red top I think their called. I know there's a lot out there with the same engines but in a light car I think it would be plenty of fun. Always wanted to paint my car lime green with black interior and black flares but it might just end up been a dark glossy blue. just not sure :bash:

This is what she looked like to begin with. The easy bit first pulling the old girl apart. Wish it luck. This is my first rebuild so any help along the way would be appreciated.

Awesome job mate that is the most through job I've seen documented. Doe's your dad want another son :lolcry: . Couldn't stop reading and I'm sure I'll be using it to do my ke70. Wasn't sure about the colour until you painted the engine bay then i was sold. It's a great match with the colour of the interior. Can't believe how good the interior was when you first got the car, you did a great job cleaning it up. Mine has a great body but my carpet is torn, dash cracked and middle console has seen better days. Rims go well with the car, definitely came a long way well done.

I thought there must be an easier way through the boot so had quick look but didn't investigate hard enough obviously. Cheers all for your help I'll let you know how i go. Haha took 2 mins to pull off cheers. 17 socket little elbow grease and she fell off. Haven't had any stubborn nuts and bolts so far hope this continues.

What's the easiest way to remove the rear bumper. I have minimal tools and fear i will have to remove the fuel tank just to get it off. Must be an easier way. Whats the easiest way to remove the dash? Yes I'm a bit of a noob, this is my first re-build so i appreciate all the help i can get. :blinks: Thanks in advance.

Just started my ke70 and would like to know where you got the chrome bumpers and headlights. Just doing body work at the moment not sure what engine to put in the old girl but that's further down the track. Won't come together as quickly as you did it well done she is a beautiful car now.
