  1. Hilux was the obvious choice because it fitted in with their previous use of the Hilux as an amphibious car, and being indestructible. Also, remember that over in the UK the they badge the Prado as the standard Landcruiser, and the 100-series (and I assume the 200 series now too) as the Landcruiser Amazon.....plus they think it's a giant chintzy Ginza rice-wagon compared to the Range Rover, doesn't have anywhere near the reputation that it does over here.
  2. No they don't. Nissan and Renault have an alliance, but there is no ownership link to Ford whatsoever. There was some badge engineering going on between Ford and Nissan back in the 80s and 90s partly due to the Button Plan (Maverick/Patrol, Corsair/Pintara), but one didn't own the other, just how there is no ownership link between Toyota and Holden yet they released re-badged versions of each others cars under the Button Plan (Commodore/Lexcen, Apollo/Camry, Nova/Corolla)
  3. The silver car across the road looks like a VT/VX Commodore (you can see the kidney grilles), the dark one to the left of it COULD be an EF/EL Faclon, but the photo isn't anywhere near clear enough to say

  5. Technically the other way around. Modern Duratec 4s are all Mazda engines, from the MZR family I think. Older 8V Duratecs were based off the Kent. On the other hand, the Duratec V6s are made by Ford, and Mazda re-badges them as AJ and MZI (with some changes, such as VVTi etc). Interesting fact, the 3.5L MZI/Duratec 35/Cyclone will most likely be appearing in the new Falcon in 2010.
  6. There are a bunch of VW/Audi 5-valve engines too, hell they've even got a 30-valve V6. Take a look at the engines in the late 90s A3, A4, Passat and Golfs to see them.
  7. I'd hardly call a 3SGE a lump of Camry unremarkableness......although since it's from an ST162 it'll most likely be a Gen1, and they barely make any more power than a smallport, just more torque., A redtop BEAMS from an MR2 or ST202 on the other hand......

  9. Early T-powered Celicas had the T50 too (ie TA22, TA23), but they had the 20-spline version. A lot of people get them confused and end up with the wrong box if they're not careful and do their research

  12. Just a small thing, but it's a 6AFC, not a 6AFE. The E means electronic fuel injection, and you said yourself that yours is carby. And if it really is a 6A, then it is definitely 1.4L. Some people get confused and assume that the 6 means 1.6L, but it's not the case. As to what they came in, basically the lowest-spec of the Series 1 AE92-shape Corollas and Novas (SE or CS for the Corolla, not sure for the Nova)
  13. You can get tools from Supercheap etc that slide in behind the winder and pop the clip off. They're like $10 or something, worthwhile investment if you're going to be taking lots of door trims off
  14. I wouldn't exactly call 11.5/100km pretty good for a stock 4K. Remember these things are only 1.3L, and if the tune is good they should be able to run on the smell of an oily rag. I was regularly getting 8L/100km in the city on a 4K which had to be thrashed to get it to keep up with traffic, and a massively loud exhaust that was probably losing power.

First: Car now has full exhaust system installed, care of Davo's now departed granny-spec 102 Thusly, HPC coated extractors 2" engine pipe to cat 2 1/4" through hotdog resonator to s/s Lukey Ultraflow Big dumpy tip Much better sound More power Was dyno-ed at Toymods Dyno Day #16, hit a new high of 71.0kw, which is either an increase of 2.1 or 10kw, depending on which previous dyno result is taken. Personally I'd estimate the actual value to be somewhere around the 5kw mark Since then, it has also received a nice not-shiny CAI (also from the ex-Davomobile) and K&N pod behind the front guard, comes complete with ghetto-spec cable-tiedowns for the battery as it no longer lines up with the pre-drilled holes in the body (really should fix this, but can't be bothered for the moment) Some photos
  16. The KE55 used to get around 8-10L/100km, which would equal roughly 500-600km/tank, but the fuel gauge never worked properly so it was always done on kms travelled. The AE102, highly dependent on my right foot, varies between 6.5-10L/100km. Most I've ever gotten out of a tank was 800km, which surprised me because that was on a cruise to Bathurst, including a few heated laps. The AE82 is currently getting around 7-8L/100km, doesn't have the torque that the 7A does so it needs more revs to do the same stuff, therefore more fuel.

  18. Thought I was the only 102 owner here.....I feel for the auto though, I've been in one before and they're an absolute slug compared to the manual. In the middle (quite literally) of putting a CAI on mine at the moment

Tunnel is only 2 lanes in each direction, and train tracks = 2, so even then that would be 14, although someone would have to be a major idiot to include train tracks and a completely separate tunnel into the number of lanes on a bridge (technically there is a footpath too, and of course the steps over the arch too) What has most likely happened is that the original creator was US (where double-decker bridges are common, especially in New York), and read that the Warringah Freeway (the lead-up to the bridge) has 16 lanes, and the bridge was 8 lanes wide, and thus assumed that the other 8 lanes must be underneath.

  21. Not exactly true. The C stands for California emissions package, it is just a coincidence that no EFI cars were labelled with the C (mainly because emissions control changes so much with EFI). 3K-B, 3K-H, 2TG, 18RG etc are all carby, but don't have the -C package. The Japanese emissions package lasted into the EFI labelling era, and was given the U designation, ie 18RGEU, 2TGEU, 4AGELU etc
  22. 77kw at the flywheel, most likely would dyno around 60kw at the wheels depending on condition
  23. A C5 can also carry 80 tons more cargo
