Why do you reckon not many people would as for a KE70 bosskit? Every second one you see on the street has an aftermarket steering wheel, thus requiring a boss kit. And it'll probably be the same or similar to an AE86 one, plus knowing Toyota a multitude of other models, so it shouldn't be hard to find.

4k Electronic Dizzy, Coil Questions
Hiro Protagonist replied to trav_555's topic in KExx Corolla Discussion
When I got my 4KEU electronic dizzy, it came with an Echlin coil that needed a resistor, that worked perfectly fine...agree on the Bosch crap though, Denso stuff is heaps better -
12 years of primary and secondary education are my friends (uni doesn't count - if anything, it has made my grammar and spelling worse). Even when I'm drunk, I spot spelling mistakes when I'm posting and go back and correct them (even looking up the spelling of long or strange words to double-check). I just tend to make more when I'm drunk, thusly requiring more corrections. The end product is still usually the same, same goes for my text messages - capitals in all the right places, correct punctuation, no shorthand or l33t-sp34k, even if it means sending two messages instead of one.

Firewall would most definitely have to be modified. A 1G barely fits in to a 3x/5x bay without modification, and the RB is a longer engine

I actually find the dubbing the least annoying bit of it. Sure, it's obviously dubbed, but they did a better job of the sync than those bloody Oust/Glade ads, and most shampoo/skin cream commercials. What I want to know is how that test shows that the Castrol-oiled car lasted 45% longer when they didn't show it being destroyed too. And it lasted longer than a generic benchmark oil? No shit, that's what benchmarks are for. If your product doesn't beat a benchmark, then you wouldn't be advertising it as a performance product, would you?

Agreed. It's not a service. It would be like asking them to come out with a radar gun and check if your car's speedo is accurate.

Legal Engine Conversions For Ke30
Hiro Protagonist replied to mcgoonster's topic in Engine Conversions
Maybe if you did your searching somewhere more appropriate, like the VicRoads website, you'd find all the answers you need. Or if you didn't find the answers, you'd find who to contact to get said answers. -
Where Is The Radiator Drain Plug On Coralla 1992 Seca?
Hiro Protagonist replied to brownie74's topic in Automotive Discussion
If you have to continually top up the radiator, it means one of two things. 1) You have a coolant leak somewhere. Look for puddles under the car 2) You have blown a head-gasket. Does the car blow white smoke more than usual? Is the oil milky or are there lots of bubbles running through the top of the radiator when the engine is running? -
Where Is The Radiator Drain Plug On Coralla 1992 Seca?
Hiro Protagonist replied to brownie74's topic in Automotive Discussion
If the hose comes out of the top of the radiator, it won't drain the radiator will it? Remember which way gravity works? Look on the BOTTOM of the radiator. And for a full drain you should be expecting somewhere in the vicinity of 5L of liquid (if you drain the block from the block drain tap, which is usually on the block just to the left of the oil filter) -
Where Is The Radiator Drain Plug On Coralla 1992 Seca?
Hiro Protagonist replied to brownie74's topic in Automotive Discussion
Jack front of car up Look for a short pipe (like the size and length of your thumb) coming out from the bottom tank of the radiator (pointing towards the engine block) with a tap fitting (like one of those 10L water jug thingies) on the end, and possibly a drain tube underneath it. You may need to move a splashguard to see it. If you fail to find that (or there isn't one), just undo the bottom radiator hose (you can't miss it, it's a big fat f*ckoff black hose coming from the bottom of the radiator. Either works fine, just remember to have a bucket or something underneath to catch the fluid, and make sure the car is cold when you do it otherwise you'll burn yourself. -
Starter motors have two parts remember, to put it simply the bit that activates the starter motor and the bit that actually turns the flywheel. So the big strap is the power feed for the beefy (it sucks quite a few amps) motor which actually spins drive pinion and hence the flywheel. The wires in the plug activate a solenoid which activates the plunger to move the drive pinion into contact with the flywheel. So two bits, two power feeds.

It will, eventually. Filters can only filter so much.
-
No, more bad for your engine bay.

Everyone's getting confused here, a catch-can doesn't go on the breather, it goes on the PCV outlet. And the PCV feeds to the manifold under the carby, not to the air filter. The oil breather draws air in from the air filter to blow air through the crankcase and head, which then gets sucked out the PCV valve under vacuum into the inlet manifold. The only time oil will get into your air filter is if the PCV valve is blocked, causing the cam cover to pressurise. A properly set up catch-can takes the PCV hose from the rocker cover, passes it through a baffled can to filter out the liquid, and returns the line to the air-filter/intake. This stops the excess oil from being run through the engine again. You have to empty the can infrequently (more often if you have a lot of blow-by, or a stuffed PCV valve), but it's all legal emissions-wise. Some models come with a fitting on the base so the can drains into the sump, negating the need to manually empty it. Most people don't do it that way, and intead they just put a little breather filter on the output of the catch-can. Whilst this is better than just chucking a breather filter straight on the PCV, it's still illegal and can result with oil spraying your engine bay a nice shiny black. If you really want, you can run a catch-can on the breather too, but a better solution is an inline one-way valve so that air can only be drawn in, not pushed out into the air filter. The only reason I'd run a filter directly on the breather outlet of the rocker cover is if it was a show car that didn't get run. They are for cosmetic value only.

And if you do that, make sure there are no neighbourly EPA officers walking past......oh, and wear gloves and full body protection, 'cause that shit is _nasty_, and will be extremely cold
-
One thing to look out for, on some engines the temp gauge won't warn you of water loss, as the air that replaces the water volume fools the sensor. Temp gauges will work properly for overheating caused by blocked pipes or stuffed radiator, but not usually loss of coolant.

There's more than one way to compare cars. You can compare by body shape, by price, by equivalent features, engine configuration, equivalent performance, "genre" (ie family cars, rep-mobiles, luxury, base models) In this case, they chose equivalent performance. Ford aren't marketing their performance 6s against the Holden ones (apart from the n/a XR6) because there is no Holden equivalent. Both the XR6 Turbo AND the XR8 are competitors to the SS, and both the F6 and GT are competitors to the Clubsport R8/GTS. Ford just gives you the extra option of whether you want a straight 6 turbo or V8 for roughly the same money and roughly the same performance. It just turns out that the turbo variant is invariably better than the V8, thusly Top Gear were justified in choosing the F6 as Ford's _best_ mass produced Falcon to go up against Holden's _best_ mass produced Commodore.

KE36/38? Grille looks right, and he said he didn't like being near it (and curly owns a KE38) Or maybe a SV21 Camry wagon. Just because the tyres are new, doesn't mean the car is..

This was a one-off (re his actions, not me letting him stay), and we both know it. He's since apologised, and we've put it behind us.

One word - sponsorship And cheaper. Remember the UK version used a Suzuki, and then a re-badged Daewoo, neither of them classy or respectable cars. And Europe has some of the best handling small hatch-backs on the planet, yet they chose something crap, which was the idea. Crap cars are better to differentiate driving ability with, as good cars can tend to flatter or compensate for poorer drivers.
-
Agreed, just some people seem allergic to any criticism whatsoever, constructive or otherwise.
-
What's unfair about the comparison? The turbo Falcon has always been superior to it's equivalent V8 cousin (F6/Typhoon>GT, XR6 Turbo>XR8), and on paper it has near identical power to the HSV, 317 vs 310. Acceleration times are near identical, so what are you complaining about? It's as fair a matchup between Falcon and Commodore as you can get
