  1. Thanks. Dry sump systems need not cost a fortune if you are able to fabricate some of the components. I am using a belt driven single stage pump from Stock Car Products in the USA as a scavenge which was an okay price back when I bought it with a strong $Aus. Another method often used is a pump from a bigger engine, like a Falcon, in a custom housing bolted to a plate welded onto the front of the timing cover with the pump shaft driven off the front of the cam. A single stage scavenge is all that is needed for a k engine and then just use the pressure pump as I have done. With the tank, I know the limits of my welding and so had one custom made. It was actually done in the UK which a year or so ago was as cheap as anything I could get here and very easily arranged. I am sure though that it would be straight forward and not expensive to have one fabricated here as they are not complicated and just require some skilful tig welding.
  2. It took me a while to find the right pump but found one NOS on eBay from USA. I ended up having to use the input flange from the later model as the one that came with the new pump was going to foul my sump which I had already made based on another block with the later pump. The pic shows the AN fitting on the side of the block with a fitting for a temp gauge. The braided line attaches to a barbed fitting on the other side of that and runs to the modified pump intake.
  3. By using an electric fuel pump there is a convenient hole in the side of the block where the mechanical pump was. A plate with a male AN fitting is bolted on there with a tube heading towards the pump on the other side. I will post a couple of photos when I get the right pump for the block currently on the engine stand to show how it all goes together.
  4. I will answer my own query..... The part number is 15100 22011 and suits the 2K and early 3K engines. Smaller shaft housing and also a bolt on steel tube to the pick up instead of it being an extension of the cast ally cover. Not available at your local toyota dealer but available on-line from o/s or in the right engine from a wrecker I am using the pump to draw oil from the dry sump tank into the engine and I have modified the wrong pump so will do it again and the bolt on opening into the pump will give a much better result.
  5. Went to put an oil pump which came out of a 3k engine into another newly bored 3k block (which I did not get with an oil pump) only to discover that it won't fit! The bore of the hole where it goes is 22.5 mm whereas in the other engine it is 25 mm. I have another oil pump which is also the bigger size. I had always thought the pumps were all the same but clearly not. I am guessing that the block is from the earlier model/s and my online searching hasn't come with anything. Any ideas about part number or sources for the pump?
  6. All I remember is that I was using (balanced and shot peened) standard rods and I think they were rebushed to take the pin. Also, I skimmed the block a little to give the higher compression and had valve pockets machined into the pistons Looking on the web I have found a reference to Norton 850 pistons and it says the pin diameter is 17.45mm and a compression height of 37.5mm so that fits with what I remember. Interestingly that is a UK site selling JP Pistons made here in Adelaide.
  7. Your link is complete and all pages are there Potentially, with modern custom compenents a better engine is possible. What I am hoping to achieve though is to run a middle course with the use of some standard and more readily available components so it does not cost a fortune. eg some years ago I built up a 3K using Hepolite 60 thou oversize 78.5 mm Norton 850 motorcycle pistons and it had good power - they are still available but I am going through the exercise of seeing what other pistons would suit before considering custom forged
  8. Thanks for that I had managed to get a copy but I am sure others will be interested Accepting the fact that getting the listed TRD parts is not going to happen, it still has some interesting bits of information to consider in building up a race 3K Probably not the only way to go about it though
  9. Does anyone know where I may be able to get a copy of the old Tosco tuning manual?... the link here is no longer working I am wanting to build up a full race 3K and would at least like to have a read of the manual as a starting point Thank you
