  1. Why would you want to replace a 1.6 4ac with a 1.3 4k? Engine mounts are your first issue, gearbox bolt pattern and crossmember etc etc.Spending this money on parts etc if you don't have them also makes little sense. Do we need too know more information as to why you would want to do this??
  2. So I fitted the new front guards and the panel under the front bumper so now the car is black and red.Have not been able to get back to pick up the other panels yet so hope they are still there,no pics because otherwise same as the older pics.Like I said, when you share your budget between 2 cars you just have to wait a bit longer. My other project is a morris minor ute, bought it in a million pieces and am rebuilding it,currently doing the rear suspension and chassis. Can anyone recommend a QUALITY brand of vinyl paint that will not peel off?
  3. I think this gives "ghetto" a whole new meaning!Best of luck and I hope it works for you but I would have thought that the side walls of the bottle would be to thin to hold a tapped thread and allow for reasonable tightening of the fittings?
  4. You could always go electric power steering if you have a better crossmember option and the P/S is all thats holding you back! I don't know the exact details but a guy I know has fitted it to a morris minor with a 4age,if you want details I can try and get them for you but I know that it came out of a fairly modern car.
  5. So what is a good quality brand for vinyl paint that wont peel off?And can anyone direct me to a link about welding ke70 front wheel arches to the rear guards?Have tried search but guess I'm not using the right terminology.
  6. No mate, not swapping to flat front, just found some better slanty panels than the ones I have, nearly dead straight,so Ive bought the left and right front guards, valance panel and I'm hoping to go back for the bonnet and panel in front of the windscreen as long as know one beats me to them but having 2 project cars on the go means I have to share the budget.
  7. Its one of those cars that looks better the futher away you get from it,has big paint runs all over it and a lot of overspray.Paid $500,I considered it reasonable for the price after I recently missed out on an auction where a similiar one went for around $1800.It has a welded diff that is shot and missing a brake drum so I have found a complete rear end from an auto but not got the cash yet, hence the question regards the different diff ratios. Will update when I have fitted the new front panels.
  8. some pics,if anyone recognises the car would you like to tell me!Just replaced the bottom radiator hose so have let it run for a while,so far all seems good. Engine is smooth, starts easily,no smoke, not too bad for a cheap bomb with over 320,000 on the clock.
  9. So,like I said, camera still stuffed but picked up some replacement front guards and an undamaged lower front valance panel today plus a cheap second hand battery. The original guards are ok I think under the paint but needed some bogging and to me anything more than a skim coat is too much so I've pulled them for replacing. How much difference to gearing does it make to fit a diff from an auto into a manual 4 speed? Can anyone tell me how effective vinyl spray paint is,how long will it last, will it peel etc? Promise I'll get onto the pics, sooner rather than later!
  10. Hi there, well I've introduced myself in the general discussion forum and put a couple of posts in there for general interest so from now on I'll start to post most of my stuff here!don't expect it to happen in a hurry but it will happen, sharing my time between a couple of different cars, pics of the ksev soon!
  11. Ok,back to the topic at hand... got it home, not as good as I thought but not too bad, drives, doesn't stop, rear axle and brakes screwed, welded diff, missing one wheel brake drum, the handbrake half works, will sort this first then move on- Question about vinyl paint, how good is it really, will it adhere well and not peel off or is it really only a short term thing? Going to throw out the wheels, apparently they are datsun,13 inch, look a bit like old hotwires, about 8 inch wide and tyres are shit. Will consider 14inch steelies maybe but unsure at present. Looks like the paint will be one of the harder issues to sort, who ever did it should be shot but at least its only time more than anything else to get it prepped correctly. At this stage it starts well, idles well, hydraulics are pretty quiet and it does not appear to leak any oil, maybe there is none in it,haven't checked yet.Radiator hose is blown and I need a battery so these will be the next two issues I sort before I get onto the rear axle. If anyone in melbourne has a good free wheeling diff and two good axles they might want to sell give me a yell with a price and I'll see if my budget can carry it at present.. Will continue this in the rides thread now so anyway, thats it for now, pics when I can get new rechargeable batteries for the camera...
  12. yea, flat front would be ok but Ive learn't to like the slanty and I'm not prepared to pay stupid money for a 28 year old Toyota,I'd rather spend it on the build. When the EMP hits I think it will probably be more than carby vs injection that I'll be worried about but what the hell, life is a question of choices isn't it! I've read your post regards "the girls ke70" a couple of times, youv'e put a lot of effort into sorting it,hope she appreciates it!
  13. So,I'm probably one of,if not the oldest member of Rollaclub at mid 50's! Ive had ke70's before but have been doing other things (meaning other cars) but have just returned with the purchase of a ke70 project to keep me going while my other project is slack. Exterior is black, looks like house paint, original color is beige,4 speed, complete but a bit grotty and missing a few little but important pieces that shouldn't be too hard to find,I hope.. Plans revolve around rebuild and restore,a cool looking cruiser rather than a hotty, drifter, race machine, etc,a few upgrades to the standard running gear and body work to start with, maybe a 2T later, yea,I know, old and heavy but so am I, I'm not into 4age+++,hate electronics and computer controlled cars! Anyway,no pics yet as I have not picked it up,hopefully tomorrow but some of you may have seen it on ebay.Well, thats about as far as I'll go for the moment so more news when I have it here.By the way, don't expect to many updates (maybe)!
  14. so I'm an old bloke,55,been into corolla's for a while and was searching a question and came across this forum, thought it would be smart to join,I'm not a garage junkie, just like to fool around with cars etc.Favourite is ke70 second is ke55 2 door but don't have either at present, sold my last ke70 to a drifter, should be doing laps by now!
