  1. Really? :S how did you do the repairs exactly? I was thinking of machining said area down and chucking a sleeve on it...
  2. Did some stuff to the front of the car which caused the slight wear and tare in my front hub (the part which runs along with the bearing) to become a decent issue which now is causing some knocking and clunking, so I'm gonna have to rip it apart, repair the hub and repack the bearing -.- In other news, around corners, this car is gonna be one serious beast by mid-september. ;)
  3. Fun times with the clutch...... Just ditch the whole lot and throw a 4AGE+C52 in there... Setup sounds like it will do the trick, have a good chat to Barry about coilover setups in a high powered AE. He knows the issues you will face all too well :P Why does every one speak so highly of this lift off oversteer? Mine is understeer prone unless I run semis up front and KU36 on the rear, but then its slides like a tofu delivery car... :P
  4. This thread makes me laugh. Having driven FE's and 16v 4AGE's, i can tell you the FE is a nicer motor to drive around town and are quick enough to have fun, but they don't have the same characteristics as the GE's with power delivery and response which makes them so good in the higher revs! Thats because the 4AGE only gets going after 60 kays in 2nd gear... you were not doing that exiting the corners. Clearly you were cheating and had a 130kw 4AFC :P
  5. Not this time, need to scrounge up some $$$ for 3 possible track days over august and september ;) All the best Rob!
  6. Once you hit that power mark i think it would be wise to fab up some front trailing arms to help minimise said torque steer, along with stiff rear suspension to keep the front in place... then you will suffer from lift off oversteer unless you get a good LSD... or just weld it, then its a whole different ball game of suspension setup and you wont be able to street it much without snapping driveshafts... you might want to run PS aswell :P
  7. "Alternatively an external MAP sensor can be fitted via the harness allowing higher manifold pressures." http://files.haltech.com/downloads/platinum/Platinum_Sprint/quick_start_sprint_500.pdf
  8. Does it have anything to do with the map sensor being inside the ECU? If so I believe you can run an external sensor with said computer. 21PSI is plenty for a FWD 4AGTE anyway... if you can get it to hold together with a reasonable CR so you have little lag then youll be right!
  9. I thought it was a new heating unit you are making... ;)
  10. Undo bolts, mounts, driveshafts, selectors and wires. Lift or drop out of car. simple. Putting it back together is the hard part
  11. Same story, still does 6.3L/100km on the freeway... problem?
  12. Welcome to the forum and to melbourne!! :D Keep an eye on carsales.com.au for an sx corolla, there are quite a few nicely modded AE corollas going around, and if you come to CC&D on sunday you may see a few :) Nice sedan you had looked really cool, sadly there arent any gt sedans with the 4AGE in australia, ive only ever heard of 2 :( but there are the twin cams and sx coroloas :D I own an AE82 and an AE93 both with 4AGEs and I'm the same mate, just can't get enough of them!
  13. He is right parts alone for the engine would be around 6k... and thats still being generous. Check out the formula atlantic motor because that is what you will be building to get those results, and theyre 20k second hand last time i checked! Also don't get sway bars mixed with braces, sway bars connect the suspension arms together via the chassis and stop body roll. Sway bars are more effective than putting braces on our cars... do the braces after sways and coils Wheel bearings arent bad... theyre alot worse on some other cars...
  14. 20mm rear sway bar and 8/6 kg coilovers with sport valving is the way to go! Its been proven by many AE corollas! Get an aftermarket front brace because the stock stuff is flimsy. Do the front sway bar bushes to aid in turn-in response. Depends on your tyres but your alingment will work well with 2 degree front camber, 1.5 rear camber, tiny bit of front toe out and nuetral toe rear. As for comfort i run 6/4s with race valving and i still find it too soft for my liking... Other people like softer suspension but i feel uncomfortable and unsafe in a car with soft sussy. Each to their own. For a good daily tyre get either toyo R1Rs or if you want a bit more life try the kumho KU31s. 195/50/15 is a good enough size for the car, 205/50/15 is good for the track and daily use if you have trouble finding 195s
  15. Please tell me you put a thread on the stick after doing this.................. Other than that, good job dude, I'm sure the motor sounds sweet with that carb and the extractors! If you are going to focus on the handling get a rear sway bar and coilovers straight away... then get a good set of tyres! can't go wrong mate! ;)
  16. Todays news: - Found $1.40 in the car - I realised I had blue LED water jets... I also realised that my mate wired them up while i was working on the car and now they are permanently on and draining my life/battery - Car no longer has silver interior - Car no longer has any interior - Seats need a scrubbin - Found lots of glass and sand - needed a bulldozer to clear it off all the carpet - Aluminum floor mats removed and glue/tape taken off carpet - Gear stick is back to stock - Lots of dodgy wiring.... I mean lots.
  17. That looks great, really unique ive never seen one before on the internet let alone in real life... We need more pics and details mate! Also, welcome!
  18. Neg Camber isn't necessarily a good thing on dirt... I know those off road buggies run a bit of positive because it bites in to the dirt better to aid in turning in... I have no experience with KE's or tuning on dirt so i could be totally wrong :P
  19. Sure will be, and the fun isnt even starting yet ;) In other news, I found out that the floor mats aren't plastic checker plate after all, but rather 100% legit JDM aluminum!!! hahaha Seems as though at one point the car also had danger to the manifold and because of this the passenger side flew out of the floor... there are still remnants of tape/glue on the carpet that used to secure it down but the manifold just had way too much pressure. The drivers side is near impossibru to take off and is pulling the rubber off of the carpet (the part where your shoes rest) Ill try and pry it off properly tomorrow and cover the damage with my SCA floor mats i purchased. I'm actually loving this car already!
  20. I went wreckers today bought a few bits and bobs... - CSi Black Front bumper - New grill - New front garnish thing - Bottom half of dash in not-silver - Glove box in not-silver - Centre console in not-silver - Air vents in not silver - Standard front speakers - Original SX head unit :D :D - Stock gear stick - Shifter boot in not-silver - TEQ oil cap - Left hand side mirror and a few other small things i can't remember off the top off my head... All for 150 dorrahs!! :D :D :D
  21. Already got one of his earlier sets in the 82 ;) they're a whole lot better these days No worries, you can pick up what you need if you like. Let me know when.
  22. on the AE82, if its 3 bolt or 4 bolt it doesnt matter. Where the 4th should be on the pov pack ones there is a rubber grommet. easy fix :P On the other hand, the rest of the FWD AE's share the same struts but have different tops to the 82... I know that feel. I bought the 82, got it on the road, 4 weeks later at winton i blow the gasket. Ragequit the motor and put the smallport in... Got her running 4 months later. 7 weeks after that, in melton i blow the gasket on the new motor. So much rage. I was this close to parting the car out at that point, luckily the TRD bulletproof gasket arrived before i lost it :) hahaha On the plus side, car clicked over 230xxx this week, 16,000 kays in about 7 months of driving it... not bad. A/C stuff just needed gassing according to the previous owner. I can bring whatever you need at CC&D next sunday?
  23. Doo ettt!! best thing ive done to my car! All AE82 sets fit each body shape of the model. BTW he has a website mrpltd.co.nz check it out if you want very bad and expensive ideas :P Our cars sound alike!! New plugs and leads, and oil and then just loosen the dizzy and twist it around till she runs right and then tighten it back up! helps if you have a timing light. That should sort everything out for the engine at least :) and Ive got a heap of 82 A/C gear out of my car if you need any of it... you can have it all!
  24. Theyre about 1100 delivered from Bazda (MRP) who is in NZ and on twincam.org.au ;) Havent done any work yet apart from buying new floor mats and throwing the plastic chrome checkerplate ones out in the bin...
