QUOTE (TOM @ Feb 20 2010, 01:59 PM) * A new beast in our driveway, housemate is having a party for his birthday and decided to build a charcoal spit (of sorts), buy a lamb and cook it. 5 hours of cooking to go and we will have dinner...for the entire neighborhood Couldn't have said it better myself Shady! Well the lamb has been partly consumed, and we're all quite drunk. Wish I got some shots during the "testing of the meat" - 12 guys standing around a rotating lamb, next to a cut up 40 gallon drum filled with Charcoal in 38 sticky humid degrees, forks at the ready in one hand, beers in the other. We knocked one whole leg off in what can only be described as "Cavemen with Forks". A feast of civility and granduer, we are now firmly in touch with our masculinity and carnivorousness.

Yep Dirty old 4K. No air-con ): Unknown brand extractors - didn't even look or care til I got it home, so twas a nice surprise All the centre consoles are immaculate, no cracks, and cassette player works sweet!

Picked this up today, needed a car in reserve for when I find a new job and give up my company car - perhaps this will motivate me to really start looking because my job is utter bollocks. Mega downgrade haha, but I'm broke (new mortgage) and 70's are cheap to fix and familiar. Has a Towbar which will come in handy too. Its borderline for fixing....but I might use it to teach myself panel work and rust repairs if I can be arsed, shell is pretty good for a 70. As you can see though, front damage will need to be fixed, and a huge section of bog from a previous repair is about to fall off the back door! Funny. No rust around fuel door and only one little bit in the boot, couple in the rear corners of the roof. It's an XX, so has remote boot & fuel door release which is a novelty, tacho dash and has the original cassette player in the console. Plush velour seats in pretty good nick too. Oooh and it appears to have extractors :hmm: Needs a good service & tune but motor seems good, 5 speed is nice and it drives pretty well. Thrust bearing is very noisy though will probably be changed.

Hi Tom this is very nice mate, great find! As it turns out, I just acquired one of these in Adelaide...it's a carbon copy (dark blue XX, 5 speed, csx wheels, but no air-con). Unfortunately mine isn't nearly as clean as yours(note - it's a cheap daily), although it does have a great interior and the original cassette stereo! Cheers, Tom

Anyone seen any dark blue KE70's around the place? XX model in particuloar with the black stripes. Just picked one up for a daily, but it will probably need a left guard and right-rear door.

Outstanding!! My keyboard is wet with drool at that photo of the boot area...rarely used by the look of it! What a beautiful car, and I totally agree with keeping it original. A more original and lower mileage 36 there probably isn't...anywhere. Only ever seen one other Corolla that colour, and its an identical 36 which drives around my area. Is it a rare colour? Love it, love it, love it

Great, but please tell me you're at least planning to upgrade brakes and suspension BEFORE you drive this on the road? I know SA laws are easy to get around, but it doesn't give us a license to drive around in defectable, overpowered, under-braked, under-sprung cars. Just my two cents...

If its any help I saw a yellow AE95 the other day going up the freeway, it had a fitted bullbar on it and 16" wheels and looked good. I'm sure that at some stage they were available, and possibly still are, google is your friend! Ask a Toyota dealer - they might be able to help. Otherwise just email every friggin bullbar manufacturer in OZ and hope for a positive response. Or...scour the wreckers for a nudge bar or two and get creative.

I'm keen to know how you go with this. Have you tried just plugging everything possible into the new dash and giving it a go? It works with many other series Toyota's Depending on what model yours is, you might lose the diff-lock light (some had it in the dash, some in the centre console). I would be fairly sure an AE95 SR5 tacho dash would be plug'n'play, but may be harder to find. Let us know how you go.

Last time I went to Just Wrecking Toyota's (Wingfield) they said they could still get import 4K's, 5K's and 7K's - just ring them or go down there and ask. For a cheaper option, get a second hand 4K for sub $200, a 5-speed and go from there - bullet-proof reliable, rev happy, capable of producing good fun power, sit on 110 km/h all day, etc neat car btw, dunno about the wheels though
-
Hey man nah it doesn't have the compass - I think maybe that was an SR5 thing only? Coincidentally, does anyone know if an SR5 tacho dash is just a plug 'n play swap over? Would an SX or GTi dash fit and work? Hey mate no there were two different sorts, I think that was an SR5 thing? Not sure yet benzo - I'll let you know! I would imagine the biggest obstacles would be lack of low-range gears, inadequate ground clearance and subsequently suspension travel. Would be very easy to fry a clutch in sand dunes or similar terrain. Saying that, it is much more capable than a 2wd car and shoud prove quite useful in many situations.

Go the '95's. I was going to do the exact same thing with my exhaust...looks sweet on there. Btw it looks like a cat had wizzed on your guard :)

Ouch. Sorry to hear mate, they must be short of things to do if they're starting to defect cars like this. Why would he say that? I thought they could only cube cars for multiple "hoon" driving infringements? It would suck to think you might be the unfortunate result of some policeman being unusually cranky... So will stockies & hubcaps/stock springs get you out of it, or is there something more to it?
-
Yeah the lack of a/c sucks...but yes on the dark tint. I'm almost at the "taking suggestions" stage with wheels... I'm not sure if I want to lower it now, will possibly reset the factroy srpings 1 1/2 inches lower when I put new shocks in it- but it could be quite a handy little car for touring around the place, and I do tow (light) stuff fairly often. And it is a 4WD.... Was originally thinking 14 or 15 inch late models toyota stockies, black or dark grey with a thin redwall on the tyre...maybe...can't visualise it properly with the tinted windows but reckon it could look good if lowered Or... a set of slightly wider (5 1/2 or 6") jap-style dishy 13" wheels with 70 series 185's...again I can't visualise it...it could look stupid I don't want 15 or 16 inch bling wheels on it, thats for sure... Suggestions/photoshops welcomed ;)

Yeah just ID check...but it was always a good excuse for a thorough clean ;)

Car is now ready for its inspection bar degreasing the engine bay, can only find one or two things they might ping me on, main one is two big cracks in the windscreen. Whole car came up unbelievably for how many k's its done. lots... These were all taken with my mobile phone...not bad for 3.2 meg

More... Painted the wheels - they were pretty bad. Removed the clear cover from the red stripes on both sides (with considerbale effort), the front bumper is impossible. I took the Toyota badge out of the grille too - reckon it looks ok without it. Then the time came for the arduous task of polishing the entire car. Someone had been for "one last bush bash" in this thing and the tops of the doors and guards were very scratched... Lots of the scratches are still there, but some careful cutting then wet-look polish sorted most of the small stuff. Still haven't finished off the little bits'n'pieces like bumpers, mirrors, windows etc... but I'm pretty happy with the rest of it so far.

Yeah benzo been busy at work but slowly getting the car ready for regency. It's just a numbers check as it came from interstate, but better to be safe than sorry. So I've spent today getting stuck into detailing for the inspection on Tuesday. Interior is nearly done, just need to clean the seats a bit more. Wipers were rusty, and the A-pillar cover was peeling back to the chrome. Matt black...was going to take the pillar covers back to chrome (plastic chrome) but couldn't be bothered...matt black is just too easy! Painted and re-fitted The grille was faded really badly, so painted that. Couldn't find the original colour anywhere so went for a generic metallic dark grey - pretty damn close!
-
Far out...nice to see someone enjoying my old beast! I'm not surprised the head went - was believed to be original motor and I don't think the head had been off. Not bad for nearly 350,000k's! And yes those front shocks were...squishy. Like the drivers seat :P Looking forward to seeing the progress man, plans sound good :(
-
Yeah no worries, I'll always remember it because the first time I saw this car (in Adelaide CBD) I nearly ran up someone ass becasue I was gawking at it and drooling...it looked fantastic like that! Good luck with it!

TOM replied to Chobis's topic in Automotive Discussion
I hear that...horniest KE20 on here IMO I'm there (Bay to birdwood) in a few years...gotta find me a KE11...willow green...enough said. -
Looking better already Chris, good stuff! I nearly bought this a few years back when it was in better nick, but still a great buy! I always wondered - are fake side venetians just taped on or what? Still got the photo on my computer after all this time - this is what it looked like then with the walls on it - great look! Hope you like it.
