Thanks man I may well be in touch...although there are heaps on feebay relatively cheap too. Progress... Picked the tub up finally, and to make matters easier we dropped it straight off at the sandblasters, which ended up being a damn good idea!! They took great care blasting it, got in all the nooks & crannies and gave me a ridicolously cheap price, so it saved me heaps of time and money! We then got it home and blasted it the next night with a hardcore 2-pak epoxy primer...this shit is what they use to paint the San-Francisco bridge...it's hard as hell, can be left for 6 months before top-coat and can be glassed and filled straight over. So we layed a full 4 litres on there  Few hours here... Swiss cheese anyone? Solution is in the works but will remain a surprise until the end...

More progress over the last few days, will slow now as holidays are nearly over! Have started on the rust holes with a quick 2 hour session yesterday using fibreglass to bridge holes which were too big for bog! Today I went to do more work on the tub at the wrecker, and with the help of a mate we got it off with no real dramas. Took a few bits home and pondered the next step... Decided to start on these three areas and the tops of the front guards where the fender mirrors used to be. Step one complete...fibreglass fixes... And the tub, removed and almost ready to take to sandblasters... Also there has been a change in colour plans, now going with matt willow green, toyota logo on tailgate in white and possibly some white rat styling here and there... The options are many at this stage!!!

Thanks chaps, they may be indestructible mechanically...but they didn't use very thick metal in sections... Essentailly this is a quick fix to get the plenum working again, get rid of all the rust and stop leaks then give her a spray and hope it lasts 10 years! To fix it properly would involce an impossible amount of un-stitching, welding and is frankly just not worth it for the value of this car. That said, it should clean up well and be a good lesson in bogging and fibreglassing for me, and will be a cool ride once done! Today involved removal of steering column, pedal box and heater box to reveal the extent of the rust in plenum. Also took off doors and removed more crap from engine bay to prepare for the wielding of a variety of digging, gouging, scraping and general cleaning tools of the electric and compressed air variety. Inspection holes these are... Honestly it's quite a mess  This is where the action's at people :hmm: Found a relatively watertight parts receptacle...

There have been some developments for this in the last couple weeks... Found a tub! It's an ex-Telecom one which is in pretty good order and a deposit has been paid. Have started cleaning it out and removing bolts etc but I know the wrecker pretty well and it's not going anywhere. Got some holidays this week so spent the day removing engine / gearbox, alloy tray and some of the interior. Tub as found at the wreckers...was saved by being propped up by a 40-gallon drum for 20 years - rust is minimal!! Stainless steel "Tonal" muffler - no wonder it sounds so good haha!!

He said roughly half are carby and half are injected and that he also has a few manifolds and other injection parts for K motors, didn't ask on prices. Worth a call IMO. They're a pretty good bunch of guys and if they know you're serious they'll keep an eye out for stuff for you. Cheers,

Sweet thanks guys! I was also put onto this, and reckon I'll be able to make up a stencil or get one made fairly easily from this.
-
That's the one Ryan, I'll be looking at making a stencil of some sort methinks! Cheers

G'day chaps, Wanting to do a rat PMG / Telecom (pre-Telstra for you youngens) tribute ute with my RN25 Hilux, but I'm struggling to find and images or even the old logo I could work with... To my knowledge they used quite a few RN25's, all Orange and all with tubs. The plan would be to do it semi-rat with a very matt finish orange and the old Telecom logo on the doors, low, etc... The idea came to me today, and it is most likely going to win on some sort of epic level. I've found a reasonable tub which is the correct orange colour, and I have reason to believe the car it's coming off is a Telecom ute. If anyone has ANY images of the logo, random facts or even pics of Lancruisers or later Hilux's used by PMG or Telecom that would be awesome. Many thanks,

Success! The old Hilux made it home yesterday from the Barossa Valley to Adelaide with no dramas, we even hit 100kp/h a couple times!!! Radiator cap was only half sitting on to prevent pressurisation, the clutch was protesting at any hint of an incline and we didn't have all lights operational, but it was sweet as and a heap of fun! The car drives so tight and amazed me with how (relatively) comfortable and cruisable it is. Was pissing down with rain here most of the day, so despite my best intentions to get stuck into it we basically just removed the farmers grille then pondered at the possibilities for this little truck whilst consuming many bottles of "thinking juice"... Loving this thing so much....ohhh the potential... Oh yeah...it now has a name... HILDA the HILUX. Mates Crown in this shot has a 308...it's very cool We all took turns at taking it around the block to experience the awesomeness...

Spent a day servicing and scrubbing with some good results... It's now loaded and ready for driving home. Mate had some hupcaps he picked up for $10 at a swap meet - they look the part even if they're not original ones Crash pad is minty! Also threw in a parcel tray which I picked up from the wreckers, and my steering wheel off the 38 Hood lining is excellent Seat is very good with only a few small holes And a random shot taken from the kitchen window

Success! For the measely sum of $100, I now own this rusty, spider (and ant) infested Hulux. It has passed a weekend of testing with flying colours - did about 50k's including 2 loads of wood around the block and some drunken night-time cruising around the property, and it should be ok to drive home from the Barossa after a few jobs later this week. Clutch is slipping but will get me home, rest of the driveline works beatifully and the 12-R is smooth and gutsy. I have some general servicing and cleaning to so, some lighting problems to fix and a de-laminating retread on the front which needs addressing, and the spiders, then it's good to go. Interior is amazing considering the rest of it...no cracks in the dash, but I forgot to take pics Happy new owner after loading wood and getting up a hill without the clutch slipping, thinking "One more load and I've pretty much got my money's worth already" With tray = farm Without tray = win Hilux country... Tempting to leave the moss on there for patina :laff: Original 1978 dealer sticker from the same town I bought the car from...how the hell this survived has me buggered... 4 lads, 4 Toyota's, 3 bikes, way too much liquor, excessive meat consumption and a new Hilux to admire and tinker with = a frickin great weekend. Happy days

OK so I'm starting a weeks holidays tomorrow, and first job for the week is to finally go and pick this up. Can't friggin wait! Had a stroke of luck recently when I found a complete white RN25 at U-Pull-It, recovered two rust-free doors with no mirror-holes and a heap of trim bits from it which was awesome. Plan is to give it a quick service, register online and then take it camping for the weekend to assess it's worthiness for the trip back to Adelaide (camping location is only 10 minutes from where I'm picking it up) - it should be ok but I'm a bit suspect about the clutch and a few other little things. A few loads of firewood should give me a fair idea of whether it will make it. Pics of said adventures to come... Does anyone happen to have points gap and/or timing specs for a 12-R?

KE55 Corolla being used as a motorcycle trials obstacle in QLD this year, great riding!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FXRGNW14pho

Saw this at 4PM today outside Suzuki in the City...NSW plates... Far out man...this thing was overrated

I'm sure I speak for everyone when I saw we would like to see pics of ANY corolla that has survived that many miles - that's epic!!! Actually it's almost unbelievable!! Afraid I can't offer much suggestion with the motor (3K's are basically free here, but original K motors are a little harder to come by - not sure what it's like in the states), but I'm others one here will have plenty to suggest. Suffice to say that the 3K (1.2 Litre) will offer a significant power increase over the K motor (1.1 Litre). 4K's (1.3 Litre) are the same block, give more power again (quite zippy in a KE10) and fit in with very little modification, and again are basically free here, but I don't think they were a common motor in the states. Good luck and please post some pics of this well travelled 'Rolla!

A 20 at Elizabeth? Wasn't that bright green one for sale on eBay / Gumtree a while ago was it, or was it willow green? That RT40 was interesting - someone had done a lot of prep work to that car, and it also had substantially bigger front brakes on it...abandoned project I'm guessing. That MR2 had the original seats in pretty good nick...almost grabbed them then changed my mind

As with Raven, I don't have pics of quite a few. These are the important ones anyway... 1996 - First car, $325 with 4k. Did 22,000kms of crap like this in 18 months My third car and my favourite car in the world without question. Written off by a silly lady in a VT wagon, vengeance will be had when I buy / build another one when the time is right. Second car (Capella) in the background Number four, bought from under a tree for $200 $50 with blown hg, put low k import 4K in and drove for a year My 100KW SX with my KE70 wagon in the background, both great while they lasted Had this for a couple years when I moved from the country to Adelaide (oxy-moron? haha), sold it when I was on work-cover and needing funds 70 sedan bought soon after, but only after a brief encounter with a crappy SV21 wagon. Sold this on here some time ago after getting a company car... And finally, the $700 temporary "Indestructo Super Wagon", which took over a year of moving house(s) for two blokes, numerous camping trips fully laden with trailer and bikes, late night drunken rally driving around paddocks. Was one of my favourites because it was driven like a hire car and was just so damn useful in so many situations! Minus 5 and still started first pop Ahhh, the memories! I like this thread already, and can't wait to see what some members have to show us...gavclassic...7shades...I'm sure there are others who would have epic amounts of stuff to show us...please do!!!

For a novelty I'll be visiting both UPI's with a mate this weekend...north tomorrow, south sunday to look at that 55...saw it pop up on the listing yesterday

Spotted a previously unseen light purple coloured 15 or 17 (Sprinter) with some wheels and a canon exhaust going up goodwood road just before 5PM today...I flipped out...haven't seen or heard of it on RC...a rare sight, even rarer in purple! Anyone know the car? A mate also spotted a white KE26 in Elizabeth this week - old couple driving it. He also flipped out!
-
Damn!! What channel was it on? Can you guys remember the name of the show?

So after a good month of daily duties the rolla is in the backyard again - I finally have my company car back after being repaired. The old girl treated me well, and it was a good chance to service and tune the motor which now runs like clockwork. I can't wait to have the funds to start work on this, but for the time being it's a handy spare car and pretty garden ornament. Driving it in the wet with the skinny old retreads was predictably fun, and made for some happy days driving to and from work - 45 mins each way. Put an oldschool non-branded tacho in where the clock used to be - it's the most logical spot and went in really easily. Have spent today flashing her up for the pre-square get together / photoshoot on Monday...if the weather holds out. Also finally put my rollaclub sticker on...

I'm keen, and pretty sure my friend will be bringing his 308 powered MS55 Crown too.
