why is a 5k illegal? i was under the impression that you could fit an engine from the same series as long as it wasn't older, and wasn't more than 500cc (not real sure on the exact figure, but around that) larger than the original. maybe that's just in vic...
-
true, true. it doesn't sound like it though.... even if it was, there are sooo many engine/gearbox combos that would be better bang for buck to do, and beside that it would be so much screwing around.

i love these sort of questions... just get the mirage and make a cardboard body kit for it so it looks like a 70. there is no good reason to do this conversion, it will cost around 3000 or more, that's assuming you already have the car and the motor, and you can do some of the work yourself, ie convert the cable clutch in the 70 to hydraulic, possibly cut the trans tunnel to fit the gearbox, shifter etc. it will be slower and harder to do than a 4AG, a little more economical.

...That BETTER be a taxi....

I'm using an AE71 radiator, with a thermo fan, a HD AE71clutch and fly, and i think, an AE71 alt... Mine is STILL not on the road, i had a big problem and took it to a mechanic.

I'm thinking i should write this topic up and have it pinned in the conversions thread, this is about the 5th time ive covered it.

you'd be right in guessing that this is an old conversion.... Ok...firstly, get rid of the celica 5 speed, i think it will bolt up but will leak oil like a bastard, and i don't know of a way to fix it. You should get hold of either an AE71 or AE86 box, as they are made for 4A series engines, not T series. When you say you have an engine, do you mean just an engine? or do you have all the assisiated bits and pieces? it makes it so much easier if the engine is in a car already, you can just swap it all over. what sort of 4AG is it by the way? because it can make a big difference in the work you need to do. heres a basic list. >engine mounts >VL fuel pump or similar >custom tailshaft >computer and all sensors >RWD inlet manifold (if its not a 20v) >RWD exhaust manifold >custom pedal box (to convert to hydraulic clutch) >hydraulic clutch master/slave cylinder/lines/actuator >Lift pump and surge tank or mods to the fuel tank. >EFI fuel lines A list of parts isnt really the best thing here, most of the work is modifying original parts, cutting grinding etc. the standard diff should be fine for NA with a normal clutch. for turbo, you would want a hilux diff or similar, which is a few grand worth of engineering. don't do it if its your only car, despite what you might think, it wont take a couple of weekends, it will take MONTHS, i started mine about 8 months ago, almost finished. Any more question?

You can't just use the KE70 pedal box...well you can but it needs to be modded. I'm not sure if this is any help, but i recently put a 4AG into a KE35, and it is pretty easy to convert the cable clutch to hydraulic, you need to be able to weld and grind tho... hands up who wants me to take pics of it??

I really have to get to it and do a write up on this, there seems to be a boom in popularity in this conversion... No, a K50 will not bolt up, you need a T50 or T40 from an AE86 or AE71, TA22 will bolt up, but not well, they leak oil. use the 4AC flywheel from an AE86 or AE71, also use the metal cover from the back of a RWD 4A otherwise dirt and grit will get into the clutch. AE71 mounts will not work, you have to get them custom made, unless you modify the whole AE71/AE86 cross member to fit in the 55. yes you will need to shorten the tailshaft and have an AE71 or AE86 gearbox out put shaft grafted on one end. don't forget that you need to get a new outlet on the fuel tank at the bottom so an EFI pump can pick up fuel, you also need an efi pump, i used a VL one, you need efi fuel lines too. The clutch needs to be converted to hydraulic, which is alot of stuffing around, i used an AE71 master cylinder. to do the pedal box you can either adapt an AE71 or AE86 pedal box, or convert the KE one to hydraulic. don't do this expecting it to take a weekend, i started mine 6 months ago and I'm ALMOST finished! If you have any specific questions feel free to ask.

yeah 2 on each side, with sheet metal in them instead of glass. they look so sweet.

HA ha! ask "what car should i...." in rolla club...what answer do you think you'll get? ;)

Id go one of the first gen civics!! they are so cool! dark green, 13" minilites, prelude 1800, it would hammer! and still be about as competitive as the starlet, but would look funnier caining an R33 (2 door commodore) I have a suzuki 800 hatch you can have for nothing...they are almost as quick as a ride on mower!

Any Sugestions On What Motor 1should Put In My 76 Ke30??
KE354AGE replied to black76's topic in Engine Conversions
Id advise against a 4AG swap, unless you know exactly what youre doing or know someone who does...even then, expect it to be off the road for around 6 months, and make sure you have about 3 grand saved up to buy all the parts you need/transport/delivery/etc....trust me I'm pulling hair out about mine still, i started it in jan and its neally ready now, it was meant to take 2 weeks!!!! theres quite a bit of grinding drilling and welding to do to slot it in....more than you might think. I wish i went with a 5K....by now it would be about as powerful as the stock 4ag anyway!! Seriously man, if this is your first conversion, go for a K motor, stay away from 7k....they are not a direct bolt in, and are about the same price as a 4ag. you can swap to another k series in a day if you know what youre doing, then spend some time and money on that, get the rest of the car up to scratch and then think about swapping to something in the 4a series. Have you thought about just sticking an sc12 on the 3k? or on a 4k? -
Nothin wrong with melbourne man.... But yeah, I'm with you guys on this one, has anyone on here ever had a bought a car that they DO like 100% i don't think so. i never have i can assure you. Thats the idea with a project car, you turn it into something you like. one low one, you should try to only post when you actually know what youre talking about.

I think you mean AE71...and why on earth would you bolt a 4k into an AE71? it would have to be a really special 4k to be dropped in in favor of a 4ac... I'm not exactly sure what youre trying to do...use an AE71 gearbox in a KE70 with a 4k or put a 4k into an AE71...anyway, no, the 4k wont bolt up to an AE71 t50 gearbox, nor will it bolt to the AE71 crossmember, you will need to get a KE70 crossmember, and get a K50 or K40 gearbox from a KE70, youll also need to convert an AE71 to cable clutch using a KE70 pedal box...if thats what youre trying to do...alot of work, and why?
