  1. I did say we never got the 2dr wagon so yes, the one I'm getting is a 4dr that I want to convert to 2 dr and want to make sure I have everything before I cut into it.
  2. Since we were deprived of ever getting these cool 2dr wagons in North America, can someone verify if the doors are interchangeable? I'm getting an 83 wagon and an 82 2dr sedan parts car soon and really want to make my own 2dr wagon! It makes no sense that Toyota would make different doors for these models so hopefully my dream build isn't a wash. Much thanks!
  3. Great write up! Are you running a narrower/shorter battery because it's going to be really tight in my engine bay with the stocker and BEAMS.
  4. Do you have any pics of your CAI routing? I need to move my air filter out of the HOT engine bay! Great pics as usual! ;)
  5. A guy in my club just built one for his rally AE86 and had this to say: "OK it runs!. got the 7ag built. did dyno runs last nite. Wow. picked up almost 20 more hp at 5500rpm. huge torque below 7000. peak hp is exactly the same as the built 4ag i had 3 yrs ago. 143hp at the wheels.( done at RCTS, his numbers are always low , but it compares to my previous engine) peak hp at 7200 where as the 4ag was at 7700. it will be nice to not have to thrash the hell out of the gear box and the engine to keep up. this is going to be fun!" His build: "sorry did not do a build thread, too busy . built so many engines, was just another one. short summary; mild porting done stainless oversize valves. same 304 cams,10mm lift as last year. vitz buckets. hks springs 10;1 pistons (.040) from redtop. spool connecting rods from australia. stock 4ac flywheel, lightened. crank drilled for bigger bolts, used arp bolts from chev small block. custom baffled and deeper oil pan. new, red top oil pump. cheapo ebay ex header. same 47mm SK sidedrafts as last year(gutted) to use as ITB. same SDS as last year." As mentioned, it's not about sheer hp but rather usable hp/tq that makes the 7A shine.
  6. Sadly 3TGTEU's or more specifically, cars equipped with them were never offered in North America so they aren't as readily available. Good idea though and you're not far off what I have planned which will include a turbo.
  7. Since I didn't win the auction for JDM chromies, has anyone had experience with the Malaysian knockoffs? They come up on ebay quite often but what worries me is fitment. LMK if these are good alternatives.
  8. Maybe I should secure a set of bumpers before I think about finding lights. ;) Thanks for the input fellas and wish me luck! Out of curiosity, what's the fitment like on Malaysian copies?
  9. Does anyone have pics or part #s for reference? Would help tracking down a set in Japan easier...maybe.
  10. I want to rid my car of the large black rubber bumpers for a set of JDM chromies. My question is, are the turn signal lights the same or are they bumper specific? It would save me a few bucks if I could re-use mine. If this has been discussed before, the search didn't help much. Thanks!
  11. In keeping with the 'sleeper' look 'n feel, I picked up a set of black 14" Honda steelies with good tires for cheap. I 'might' get them widened to fill the wheel wells and for proper stance but only if it tickles my fancy. Thanks for the kind words and humour!
  12. Thanks for the kind words! Sleepers are a rare breed and I'm happy mine turned out so well although thoughts of roof racks and low offset Diamond Racing wheels are in my head at the moment which would make it less sleeper-ish. Add JDM parts such as lip spoiler, blacked out headlights/corners, Touring grille, window vent visors and hatch spoiler to the mix; can it still be called sleeper? I'm hoping to get this sorted before summer and will post up pics. PS: The car made 160hp/138tq to the front wheels. Decent #'s for stock.
  13. Here's my story. I bought this one owner, high mileage 7AFE 5spd AE102 wagon back in Oct 2008 with plans of doing a swap but not the typical 4AG (ZE/20v) swap. It's my grocery getter / daily driver so my choice of engine would have to provide good low end torque without boost & have balls for passing as necessary. The only engine that met my needs in a FWD application was a redtop BEAMS (197hp / 152tq) from a 1998+ Toyota Celica SIII ST202. The engine was purchased in Mar 2009 from JDMSource out of Calgary, AB. The swap was done in Apr 2009 entirely by my good friend Adam from AMT Machine Shop which took a total of 9 business days! The rest shall we say is history! Note: Since this is a sleeper, I will be posting some but not lots of pics. Enjoy! Build notes: -AE102 engine and trans mounts were modified, some more than others for best fitment -AE102 shift linkage ends enlarged to fit Celica S54 trans -Celica ST162 axles (perfect fitment) -Soarer / Camry 1MZFE MAF sensor and intake pipe (was missing from swap but is same part #) -custom lower coolant pipe -MSD tach adapter to convert signal to work with AE102 gauge cluster -custom wiring (big job) -A/C removed because the hardlines were far from lining up plus it doesn't get that hot up here. Engine bay pic...looks like it came this way from the factory! Baseline Dyno run at Zensport now 5252 Motorsport on Sept 3rd, 2009. Pics added. Sadly the Dori's are gone but at least now I'm lowered (no pic yet) and rolling on 14" wheels off an AE92.
  14. Thanks! I'm hoping to finally install the parts I bought 2yrs ago for this car but haven't had time due to our new addition and working lots. I'll post up a build thread when it's all sorted. Keep up the awesome work! Cheers!
  15. Wow, love the car and the pics! Wish my 93 wagon was as clean and wish I had the camera skills to boot. The only thing going for mine is the redtop BEAMS!
