  1. Rear is out hopefully for the last time, time to weld everything and fill the holes
  2. I'm very happy with tonight's progress, got both towers tacked in place with the tops welded on and the wheels now hang all by themselves, now I need to fully weld the towers in, make a few gussets, sheet off the holes and finish seam welding then the rear is done ????
  3. The extreme heat over the last few weeks (mid 40's) took away my motivation but I decided to get back into it on Sunday. So I made up both rear towers in the form of pressed sheet metal box section, and test fitted one side, trimmed and tacked it in place, today I made the tops for the towers, and if the weather is alright tomorrow after work I'll work out the tower height, pull the tower out trim the tower to length and weld the cap on the put the tower back in. Hopefully all goes to plan
  4. Cheers Craig, I never thought about the camber bringing the tyre closer to the strut, but mine is going on the original mount which has some angle on it that allows the strut to stay on the same angle while the arm gains camber, this means the strut goes through the side of the wheel arch and not out the top, so the tyre would hit the inner guard before the strut (hopefully) plus ill be machining up a bolt on spacer to change the stud pattern from 4 to 5 which will sit the wheel out another 20-25mm
  5. I feel like I've been saying for a very long time that I'm about to make the rear towers and get the car back on the ground, well I'm finally doing it, I have no goal date to have the car finished so if I can't be bothered working on it I don't that also means I can take the time to do thing how I want and not rush it. So today of all days when I finished work it was 47° so I thought sure ill go work on the rolla, now I have one side chopped out roughly so I could put the strut in and measure up for the towers, I'll fold up the towers in the next couple of days hopefully, then ill weld them up and fabricate then into the car. Hopefully after that I can turn the car upside down for the last time and clean up all the bits of metal that don't need to be there, fill in all the holes, seem weld whats left and weld in some mounts for a tail shaft loop then paint the underside and the rear end, reassemble and pack away the rotisery
  6. Nice weight drop, in the photo it looks like it come up good, is it that good in person? Any ripples, I'm thinking about a glass bonnet on mine but I want it flat like a steel one
  7. Also if anyone can help me out with RX7 parts that would be greatly appreciated. I'm after front hubs with brakes and rear brakes
  8. Bit of dissapointment today when I got the hubs, I bolted them to the struts and sat them up in the towers to find that not only are they far to long, the steering nuckle is also at the top of the hub rather than the bottom level with the ball joint so it's time to scrap that idea 😔. Luckily a mate of mine had his fc rx7 at my dads work getting an alignment so I had a look at it. The front hubs seem as though they will fit while paired up with coilovers, also giving me the advantage of the famous RX7 4 pot brakes, and the rear coil overs will work with my rear end and may even slip straight on to the original shocker mount with out any modification, and of coarse I would use the rx7 rear brakes aswell, I'm not a big fan of mixing front and rear brakes, I figure they were designed to work as a team to stop a car, don't get 4 players from 2 different teams and expect them to work well together. My only issue after all this is putting the rx7's 5x114.3 stud pattern onto my rear ends 4x114.3 hubs, couple of adapter plates and bobs your uncle. This will widen the rear wheel track by 50-60mm but different offset wheel will be what it all comes down to, I also should have a good selection of wheels with that stud pattern also. Now, I now have front struts with hubs and brakes plus rear struts and brakes from a 1994 Mitsubishi Lancer GSR (the AWD turbo lancer before the Evo's came out), if anyone is interested or knows someone who may be interested, I'll sell it all for $150. Nothing leaks its all in good working order, seems a waste to just throw it all out.
  9. Got me some suspension for the rolla, Mitsubishi gsr lancer front and rear struts with some big ass brembos, I predict that it should stop quite well, stuts are just temporary, when the car is closer to being finished ill get coil overs, forgot to grab the front hubs but ill get them in the next couple of days
  10. What's with all the negativity on the fibre glass, Craig has done a fantastic job, fibre glass is great stuff, it's only sharp if you don't sand it, not trying to start an argument hear or anything just saying it sounded a bit harsh
  11. Cheers, must be the angle, it measure to be spot on in the centre (to my surprise haha). I don't think I'm putting much more effort in I'm just only doing a little bit at a time as I don't have a goal for when its done, that way I won't rush anything. I'm hopefully getting brembos off a lancer gsr from a bloke in the car club, the gsr is 4x114.3 so they'll slip straight on with no need to drill blanks, so I thought I may aswell grab the front stuts too, then the brakes are already mounted and I will have KPI adjustment then I'll run gsr coil overs all round. I just wish it was done, not because I'm over it but I'm so exited, can't wait to see your 30 going too, it's looking great.
  12. Merry Christmas everyone, hope your rollas spoil you
  13. Yeh that was my plan make it up a a pane of glass
  14. Amazing the differance a bit of black paint makes on the catches isn't it, did you make that carbon fibre piece or can you buy flat sheets of it already resined ect, just needing to be cut to shape? The reason being I am wanting to make carbon fibre door trims for mine and that would make life so much easier
  15. How'd the front guards come up?
  16. Time to get sheeting
  17. Lookin good, this is gettin me keen to see mine painted, long way off yet for me, maybe a year or so haha, keep up the good work
  18. Safe to say I've been extremely lazy with the build so I thought I better do some work on it today, so the rear end is now mounted up properly, with the suspension at the same height as my brothers ke55 there is -1.3° camber on both sides so I'm very happy with that, now I need to clean up at the bits of chassis I chopped out then rebuild the chassis but on the inside of the car, fill in all the holes and make up some strut towers
  19. I would have to mod them slightly, I will be cutting my guards across the crease where the panel is recessed for the bumper and my splitter will fit up like a modern car and form the front of the wheel arch, that allows me blend the flares into the base of the splitter, but yours are looking great, what flares are they
  20. Should make a couple for my 30 while your at it haha
  21. Haha it's not as much work as it seams, it's easier than a 4 link in my opinion, but you really need the car on a rotisery, makes it so much easier
  22. Finally I'm back in :) the sight has been mucking up on me since monday haven't be able to post anything, so on Monday I cut some more big holes and chopped up the chassis to fit the control arms and everything seems to be right and I'm now working on the rear diff support. Should get that done some time this week, then ill tidy it all up and make some strut towers then fill in all the big gaping holes
  23. Pretty happy with today's progress cut off the spring hangers, chopped some holes in the floor, notched the chassis and tacked in the mounts, tomorrow I will hopefully get it welded in properly and notch the chassis for the control arm and cut out the wheel well and work out where the diff mounts need to be and I will make the mounts on Wednesday when I get back to work
  24. I hope so, got a few people in the club with big egos that need to be beaten by a little old corolla
  25. Made the front mounts for the rear end this week, now that the long weekend is here I'll get stuck into fitting it up
