4Age Race Build. Gasket Kit? Main Bearings?
crunk81us replied to crunk81us's topic in General Mechanical
I have acl race rod bearings. king hey? I will have a search :) -
Hi Guys, I have spent a lot of time and money so far on gathering all the bits i need for my new engine. I wont go into the list of parts, but it is substantial, i have bought very high quality parts throughout and should have a redline above or around 9k rpm. (limited to 8500 for longevitys sake. hope to have a second tune done after running in for if i want to push a bit harder on race day ;) 2 questions i cannot find answers to. 1- full gasket kit.. do i need one? I have a trd .8mm HG, and oem manifold gaskets. The head is fully rebuilt. Are there any other gaskets i will need, or will gasket goo be fine or better or what? I don't want to spend all these dollars and have a leaky engine. 2- I have bought a set of ACL race bearings, (havent arrived yet) but as far as i can see they do not come with main/crank bearings?? is there a quality item i can use here? I can't find anything other than cheapish ebay stuff. maybe oem? please don't flame me and tell me to search. I have. lots :) And yes I know there are dedicated 4age sites, but they are not quite as helpful as the people i have come into contact with here and seem to ignore what might look like an already covered topic. tia :)

yes.. my lsd changed all that.. now it wont turn.

how about this situation.. you're in a 1970s 4 700kg 4 cylinder car and have the more likely accident of a heavy impact with something heavier, newer and safer..u want ur non inertia reel type seatbelt or the harness? and i think the harness still would be easier to release if you are upside down. Have you ever been upside down in a 3 point? you can't unclick them.

Making A Ke20 With 2 Way Lsd Turn Corners.
crunk81us replied to crunk81us's topic in General Mechanical
Ok I was thinking of the 4.1.. ^^ that makes sense. I'm off to recalculate. -
thoughts on adding a second flipped load spring? I have a set of spare springs, i am thinking of pinching the load spring and adding it as the second flipped to the top of the pack on the car.. currently have one.. first one dropped the height an inch or more and stiffened it up.. what would a second one do? I am trying to reduce understeer.. Sorry for the thread hijack :hmm: Would be different for dirt though? lots of travel and soft to gain traction. which springs did you use? maybe 3 reset would be good for street?
-
Rear leafs.. I flipped the short leaf to the the top. Upside down. Took about an inch off the ride height and made it stiffer.. Hilux diff is heavy though. So maybe something thicker or more leafs from another pack? Panhard rod couldn't hurt either. I did see somewhere that made single leaf setups, just one thick one, apparently it's what supercars were running for ages.

Making A Ke20 With 2 Way Lsd Turn Corners.

I'm on 185 60 13, going to try and dial it out with the suspension first, if no luck then I will change the settings. I need new gears anyway. Now to decide 3.9, 4.1, 4.3..... Hmmm thinking the 4.1. -
Making A Ke20 With 2 Way Lsd Turn Corners.

yes it can be set differently, But i do love the predictability of a pretty much locked diff. If i can't tune it out with other mods I will look at getting it reset. what tyres are you on? -

Ok so camber, castor, A swaybar on the back (yes why didnt i think of that?) left foot braking.. I will give that a try. Thanks guys. As it is now it would be amazing on dirt, just flick it sideways with a compression lock, and steer with right foot.. and i would do that if it didnt flick rocks at my pretty pretty paint lol -
Anyone have experience with making a ke20, or any car really.. with tight 2 way lsd turn corners. Problems turning in and understeer. I run in street sprints.. toyo proxes888 tyres.. LOVE my new lsd other than the above. I can lift off the throttle to get it to turn in better, but there are corners i could take better if i could reduce the understeer. Current thoughts are camber, toe out and maybe rca for low springs.

i have a bolt in half cage in mine. It wld be safer. So would a harness.. but you can't wear it on the road. hahaha Quote -I like the whole look of a cage and harness setup Do you also sit down to piss? Really, this is not a reason to have a cage.

Is An Awd 4Age 92 Corolla Hatch Or Sedan Possible?
crunk81us replied to dingeldei's topic in Automotive Discussion
Young fella asked me yesterday "do you know wheres theres anyone with a small rwd car" me:Why? "I want to convert a fwd pulsar to rwd" me: why? "coz i think it'd be cool, and something different" you know what your up for? "Yes" me:Buy a rwd corolla. -
I just installed a 40 amp gel cel to a 1.5 lancer. starts it fine so far and nice and lightweight. bit of a fiddle with connections... like this (but i used one i had lying around) http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/like/270720818699?limghlpsr=true&hlpv=2&ops=true&viphx=1&hlpht=true&lpid=107

They were bolt on for me as someone else did all the hard work.. The backing plate is part original with some custom work. And needed some minor grinding to fit properly.
-
AFAIK they were mounted on standard struts, I put them on my original ke20 struts. It is a floating disc setup and appears to work very well so far. Still to put some nice new bendix ultimate pads on. Also working on a remote booster setup, not that it is absolutely necessary.
-
Nah it was fine. Left the old pads in to cut the paint off. Took it easy around the block a few times until the burning paint smell was gone. The scary bit was having the calipers on the wrong sides so the bleed nipple was at the bottom and therefor wouldn't bleed properly. So on the 3rd or 4th pump I started to get brakes..
-
flares arrived getting done very soon. thinking i need some camber tops. even if i only get a degree or so..
-
So the corolla got taken for a couple of very slow laps around the block.. Looks like the brakes and suspension are going to work (once I put the calipers on the opposite sides.. Dickhead lol) and the new tyres are so sticky I took half my driveway with me. Body roll is non existent.. I guess that's to be expected when u almost double the thickness of the swaybar :D and initial turn in feels amazing. Picked up some deep dish 13x7 which fit real nice.. Though I need some flares now, should be here in a couple of days. Some pics coming.

15mm spacers do the trick. Looks like I'll be hunting for some other wheels as I'm not a fan of spacers. Will get me out of trouble though.
