  1. Ae95 Kid have you got any photos?Of the bulbar adaption or wheel style. the car has had a few bugs lately, i dismantled the starter and greased it all up,now it doesn't bind, but overnight the A/C fail last week,i have the check the compressor clutch. I finally got the 4wd light to engage, man that pissed me off that i couldn't fix it,who ever did the last clutch never connect a transmission crimp the light needs to talk to the gearbox, it was really impossible to get at to. So now just the a/c and tramping at the back, which i am certain is bushes, needing replacing. I came across a few bulbar, but thus far they are all nudge bars which i had the in toast and they just bend back and crush front panels,i want a alloy box section replacement, more stopping power and saves the radiator. it has been good so far, but i feel the fuel consumption is too high,i need to ifs that 12.5 litre hundred sometimes. Thanks
  2. Ok finally solved the diff lock light,i knew the diff lock was working, but the light on the instruments didn't come on,well apparently when the clutch was last done one of the transmission connectors was left loose. The starter motor was giving the odd no spin,i greased up the throw out solenoid and cleaned out all the carbon, but it think i will need a new one soon Anyone selling a manual starter? It looks the same as the ae82 except for the front housing. The car just did 4000kM to Tasmania and back, fuel economy is better. At one point on the trip it was hunting at idle up and down from 800 to 2000rpm,i disconnected the vacuum valves on the firewall one by one and indeed that isolated the problem. But nothing could prepare me for two burst tyres in one 8 hour period.Bummer Hot tip Yass has no tyre centre on sunday!! In the past i always carry 2 full spares, but in this little car,no space. So if anyone knows what alloy or steel wheel I can fit in either 14in or 15in that I can then buy 8ply light truck tyres for I would greatly appreciate it as this is not the first time tyres have let me down. Truck tyres last heaps better on dirt. I would like to put coil overs on it to go up a bit, but i don't think the price is worth it.
  3. Thanks for you ideas. I had never thought of a bent axle, although i think it unlikely as it tracks straight on the freeway,I did look at suspension bushes and trailing arm bush, but so far plenty of life in them as with the centre bearing, no play. Bent rim, a possibility but as it has 13inch alloys. I pretty much gave up on altering the suspension, although as it bottoms out on corners even under mild driving and the tyre strikes the guard, some new struts might be in order. Still no joy on the bulbar, despite looking.
  4. So far it has been pretty good, if i trust the gauges. On other cars in desert trips I always fitted a larger radiator, and fans, but toyota seem pretty efficient, there is really no more room for a larger fan, and if most of you think it is over kill that suits me! My previous car a ae82 got hot even after a new rad and head gasket, but i suspect the head had gone pourous as it leaked in all conditions. So as this car has 1/3 of the km on it it sounds unrequired. The old car drove through a full blown dust storm,1km in 1 hour material,so bad it filled the donoldson filter with a hand full of sand, then 55c then a bonnet deep river and finally outback roads turned from dust to thick clay up to the axles,we drove right past the rolled Nissan Patrol, and past the road crew into Broken Hill, the road crew wanted to know which road we had come from as they were all cut off, they didn't believe a corolla would make it through. So i reckon the corollas are pretty tough.
  5. I spoke to experienced race builder he advised something like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Aluminum-radiator-TOYOTA-JZX81-Chaser-1JZ-GTE-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem43a3477d34QQitemZ290502180148QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories#ht_2667wt_901
  6. I have a AE95R and am in the habit of driving some pretty hot places, last new years I hit 55c ambient conditions,so i want as large a radiator as i can fit.I read that one can fit a earlier model hiace radiator. Having asked around and the general opinion was a higher capacity racing radiator, aluminium, would be the go,well I am in sydney, if anyone has one that will fit or knows of a hiace model radiator that would fit I will buy a new one of those instead. Any help appreciated. This to fit a standard ae95r 4wd wagon manual with no mods. Many thanks in advance!
  7. Sorted much of the shudder with a new front engine mount.

Sorted the dead fan with some resistors from jay car.

Fuel economy is still up about 3 litres at 10per/100km

  8. Just got this car and at 135km in 22 years it is pretty straight, having stepped out of a AE82 which got a right thrashing on bush roads I want to make sure the new baby is running well for my trips,so i am resolving all mechanical bugs and then altering suspension height and strength. So it gives a nasty shudder in 1st (manual) esp turning. I went over the car thoroughly and decided the likely culprit was broken front lower engine mount. Which had separated. But still shudder, somewhat less, but it is there. So my question is there any know cause in this car that can cause this bug,i lifted up the rear wheels and the diff has very little backlash and the driveshaft has no obvious signs or wear on the spiders of the bearings. Next question. Rear shocks are pretty soggy,i want more height and strength, any known easy fits, like falcon or camry? The blower motor resistor has burnt out is toyota the only origin of a replacement(the wrecker said old ones are always cactus? Lastly fuel economy is about 10litre hundred, and compared to the ae82 with a carby motor gutless. I checked the o2 sensor and it is giving positive voltage increase when heated, changed fuel filter plugs cleaned the rotor points and new air filter, so no fuel leaks blocked lines.would 10%ethenol fuel render poor economy due to the injection on this motor? In the AE82 I could easily burn rubber, this car I doubt it. Advice appreciated. thanks Stephen BULLBAR WANTED….
  9. Awesome thanks the zip file is thorough and excellent/ I didn't know this trick to test the vacuum, never had such a thing. Re the switch you can pull it out and prize it open, mine had no sign of wear or bad electrical burns so i figured it was something else, which it was,the resistor, which i soldered up with domestic house fuse wire, which did not work at all.So off to the wrecker for one of those. The resistor is way more accessible and more likely as the culprit for the fan,in the blower housing above passengers feet. I did check the diff lock lights and unless the printed circuit board of the diff lock box is dead, it should work. Unless some cluey person here know what the resistors i should get from jaycar would be in which case it would last forever. I just want the car to have everything working so it doesn't become a wreck, at 135km and 22 years old it is in pretty good condition. THANKS AGAIN.
  10. Thanks Harry,Is that to say that you altered the strut towers?or added the subarea wheels? As i thought subaru are the same as peugeot,4 pin, which i had in the past and found a good alternative was vitara tyres at the back and 235/75 15in at the front. But i found having 2 wheel sizes a real pain.So i was hoping for something common, like a new corolla steel wheel, that wont break on rough roads and a off road tyre. Keep in mind i drove a peugeot 504 through the simpson desert! so they get a hard life with me! Could you tell me the largest wheel size and tyre size you have fitted? Thanks
  11. Thanks it is a Manual. I just pulled apart the electrics of the diff lock and it all looks ok there,so as advised it could be vacuum, if it is the gearbox i will leave that till i do a clutch. Any ideas how i check the vacuum ,or vacuum elecs? Thanks for the help. I pulled the heater/blower switch and relay and all seems good so not sure why that is not running on 1 or 2 yet.
  12. Hello, new to this, i just bought a 88 ae95r with 135km only. It was single owner and apart from a few trolley dents is in overrated condition. But it has four things i would like to fix 1 I want a bullbar does anyone have one in Sydney Australia? They want to sell 2 The diff lock dash light does not come on, does this mean the solenoid is gone and i have to remove the gearbox? 3 It makes a thumping sound at the rear under acceleration,is there a way to determine where in the tail shaft it is worn 4 The A/C heater fan only engages on setting 3 and 4,what is the best way to fix this? Any hints gladly appreciated Lastly I had a mind to change the original 13in alloys to 15inch steel wheels with off road tyres, having done this on my previous ae82 I found 195/85 14 to be the largest I could before i struck the strut tower,at the front Does anyone know what the largest tyre i can fit for a bit more clearance?
