Hi I am having problems with my 2A-C (Auto) pinging, closest I can get the timing is one degree of factory specs.... It will not run e10, standard unleaded, does not run well on bp ultimate 98, or Caltex Vortex 98, and stay away from freedom fuels (even their Premium has ethanol although they seem to deny it).... The petrol I have had that has been the best is the Caltex Vortex 95 R.O.N. However when it is hot it still pings under moderate load, changed the temp sensor in it, checked the thermo fan all good. would this indicate that the timing belt isn't lined up correctly therefore making the harmonic balancer timing marks out of whack ? (Also engine has 158,000km's on it) I have also tried tinkering with the mixture, could it be doing this if it was running lean ? I am honestly stumped and all help would be greatly appreciated.
