i've managed to get myself a 5 speed from the wreckers to put in. at the wreckers i took the side plate off and dumped all the oil and checked all the gearsets for visible damage. all good. so the question now is how much oil do i put back in? and also is there a preference on viscosity and breed of oil? do i fill it through the side plate? it's a k50 box, thanks for your input

Hi all, grabbed a 5 speed k50 from the wreckers, it's going into my rolla. this new box has signs of oil leaks, my 4 speed has none and i don't really want to start dropping oil everywhere... is there easy seals to replace on these boxes? and if so should i source from toyota or CBC bearings etc... i've had the bottom cover off and all looks quite good inside, i'll gasket goo the cover back on just wanted to know if there's a front or rear seal worth replacing and easily done without ripping the box apart? cheers

Sorry for all the questions you guys must think are easy answers, i'm new be gentle.... Pulled a 5 speed out of a 1984 ke70 with 4K at the wreckers yesterday. For all intensive purposes the box looks original and honky dory and as best i can figure out from searching on this forum its a K50 box... One thing a little odd was the trans tunnel in the car had been chopped a little to get the shifter into the car... My only guess was this car started life as an auto and was chopped to fit the manual in? Were the trans tunnels different in autos and manuals? I'm hoping this box will go straight into my 4 speed ke70 and give me that extra cruising ability. cheers for helping

the centres and housings look identical... the type where the centre comes out the back with the big drain plug on the back plate... just one has heaps bigger drums...

long time lurker, first time poster. I need a bit of help... there's two diffs at a wrecker i'm looking at... both in Ke30's One looks like what i'm used to, the other looks extremely similar except for the fact the drums are 10inch diameter... can anyone tell from this description what it is? is it a Ke55 diff in a Ke30? thanks for any help you guys can give me. cheers
