I had an st162 celica with 175fwkw.(3sgte) That was abit quicker than the stock JZA70R supra i owned, but these days i jump on the R6 if i want to go fast. :)

Yeah, yeah that's what they all say :P keen to see pics dude. :)

Doing well mate. modding it nicely :D

From what I've experienced using cheaper tyres (which usually have soft sidewalls) by have a slight stretch (I'm not talking a 185/60 on a 9" rims.ive had it on a 7" rim)it gives a better steering response and helps to stop that feeling of "the tyre is going to roll of the bead around this corner" sorta feeling! with tyre pressure i have always run my 14" front tyres (no matter the size, brand) at 32-35psi. i hear what your saying here mate :) from running stocky 13" 5.5 +27 to 14x7.5-4mm no matter the tyre stretch, its still a track increase and you can feel how much more stable the car is.(cornering, on freeways in wind etc) But having say 195 or 205 tyre fitted to these rims (which i can't unless i bashed my guards) i cannot comment on how much better it may be :)
-
Mate, you will have absolutely no problems with a 205 on a 8" rim. :) I have been running 175/65s on a 7.5" for over 6mths. hard driving, 2x skidpan/motorkhana days and its perfectly fine even at 32psi.. 175 on 7.5" is nothing compared to what proper motorsport/drifters are running. Styler - You should add: a big reason (probably the main reason) why people run stretched tyres is for guard clearance so you can run wider rims (for track increase/stability).so not just the looks and less grip for drift. a slight stretch is an advantage for grip. larger tyres on not so wide rims cause the sidewalls to flex/roll.

Not sure if I'm that "experienced" but here's my 2cents. :) At one stage i had 195/60/15s temporarily on the front of a KE70. you cannot run any decent amount of caster with this much rolling diameter unless you heavily cut/fold the front of the guards. 60 profile on a 15" is way too big. look at 50 series. This will also help to keep a similar rolling diameter to stock. I wouldn't fit anything wider than 8-8.5" max (front or back). I wouldn't go anything wider than 205(IMO 195) max width especially on the front. corolla's are light cars, no P/S and in your case you have a steering box. steering will be very heavy and slow in response with wider tyres. any sort of wet weather driving with wider tyres than this will make you aquaplane on bad roads. I'd go probably 195/50s all round but maybe a 205 on the back if your end up with wider rims on the rear. a quality 195 wide tyre can out grip a cheaper 225 tyre. I'd focus more on the quality of tyre you use.

^ He's in the US dude. thinking te72s are like ke70s over here. i.e they're plentiful!
-
Ahh "A series" Bellhousings. i knew i was forgetting something.
-
^ what is different about the t50's sam? is it the input shaft teeth? that gearbox can still bolt up though..?just need the right clutch/p plate combo?
-
don't know much about the TE72 but they should have a T50 (check I.D plate. should say tran:T50?)which means your original g/box will bolt up to the 4age :) Then you need custom engine mounts OR an AE86 engine crossmember. AE86 engine crossmember are for rack and pinion steering though. so maybe look into converting your steering system. Its not that hard from what i've seen. Also your tailshaft, diff combo should work fine and if your clutch is hydraulic (should be) then your all set.don't need to change anything here. The rest of the conversion involves an EFI fuel system, wiring and exhaust system. Is the 4age already in RWD configuration?

Car has come up super clean mate. you must be happy with that :D +1 on tyre profiles :)
-
Also i panel-beated the bottom of the beaver panel so it looks heaps better now than it does in that pic above. But i have a madhouse lip on the way from AJPS (still waiting :( )so it will be covered anyways.

Cheers man ^. Colour will be more or less the same metallic brown (in 2pak) but will talk about it tomorrow with the painter. might see if i can get more metallic flake or maybe a lil bit of glitter thrown in ;) Ohh and pinstripes will be redone.might go 3 stripes instead of 2 for extra 80s style points ;)
-
Off to painters tomorrow :laff: Dints, sanding and the rest of the rust is being done by the pro. Car looks like a 4x4 after stripping almost all the trims n bits. Parents are about ready to call the wreckers to come pick it up. they reckon i wont remember how to put it all back together, but I'm pretty clever so we will see who's right come December ;)

What motor is in your car now? look on your I.D/VIN plate and it should state the model. maybe its a TE**, i think alot of the US cars had T series motors.
-
Just had a read through your thread. nice rare car you got your hands on. the front bumpers, bonnet, interior and dash are very similar to panelvans. one thing that you wrote those i reckon your wrong about.read your quote below. You saying your car isnt modified ghetto.. pppfftt. your kidding yourself buddy. couple of things i spotted in the pics of YOUR car. umm.. rust repairs painted over with white paint that's not even close to matching. missing side mouldings massive dint in the door flared guards with no filler missmatched wheels fuel cap doesnt seal.. So hows your car any different to "90%" of AE86DC cars? There are some sick cars coming off that site man.some people with good ideas too. (for the record i aint some ae86dc lover. i have about 30posts on that site.)

what rwd gearbox fits behind a 4E motor?
-
awesome job on the guards dude :) can't wait to see the 8" and 10" on this. your gonna need a bigger motor to spin the 10s but ! :P
-
^ it is the weirdest spot for rust on a ke70 I've ever seen! I took a few other pics of it just so people would believe me :P
-
Lmao. i love how you wrote that. :D I've done two pedal box conversions now and i thought the exact same thing! The first pedal box i did I was thinking to myself "this is a shit of a job, this damn car better be worth it in the end" Then i did another pedal box.. because it IS worth it :) Sucks about the panel damage baker :( At least it didn't have fresh paint when it was hit!

Some progress on the van.. rust repairs - (first time at it so gimme a break :P ) My bonnet has some bad rust and i can't find another in melb so I'm attempting to repair this one. here's some pics: (on drivers side just above bonnet hinge) Out came the rust converter/primer and some body filler. (more pics to come) Also on the wagon tailgate i welded in steel for the wiper arm hole and washer jet (panelvan gates don't have these) Been filling in the trolley dints around the body. Car is going into paint next monday. (2pak metallic brown) Waiting on the madhouse lip (hopefully arrives this week!bah!) that's all for the moment :D

Seeing those pics really sucks :( bad luck man. Now i know why your after another shell! what ^Phil-keto said: how'd the accident happen??
-
ke70 (but a panelvan). Ive got rust in some weird spots. never seen another car like it! *rust on front edge of bonnet (under chrome strip) and rust above the bonnet hinges (on outer skin) i have a hole on each side the size of 20cent coins. *In drivers and passenger front door jams .just above the hinge where the rubber seal must be rubbing on the jam. *around the tailgate lock (on the body) *battery tray area. thats about it! i consider myself pretty luck :P

Luis, check Ebay if you haven't already. A lot of rubber parts are available from Malaysia, Singapore etc. I picked up some weatherstrips and bailey channel rubbers for my 1980 2 door from this guy: http://www.scottsoldautorubber.com.au/TOYOTA%20COROLLA%201966-70%20KE10-11-15-16-17-18.htm he should be able to post to the US for ya :)

Yep, it should all fit fine. just double check the backing plates (plate behind the flywheel usually held on with two 10mm bolts)arent different.you might need to swap them. also check both motors have spigot bearings. (bearing pressed into rear of crankshaft) not 100% if autos do, but they should have! edit: damn altezza beat me to it! hehe
