What Emissions Crap Can I Get Rid Of??
jackbyo replied to jackbyo's topic in KExx Corolla Discussion
Altezza that diagram is great! So the green lines you kept? Thanks a million. Mine's auto (for now) but i'm sure I'll get my head around it. I might ditch all of it and keep little inch long blocked off hoses where I have to. My mechanics a good bloke and told me he'd pass it in any case :) Thanks again, but expect more questions on the topic once I get started! cheers -
So I've been reading and reading for a while now. I want to get rid of the emissions crap to clean up the engine bay and make the future carby conversion more straightforward. Honestly I've spent ages trying to wrap my head around how to keep it all there post weber conversion and it's just too complex for me. Too many custom brackets etc for all those solenoids and hoses. So what can I get rid of, and what do I need to keep to not foul my oil really quickly?? My understanding so far is to ditch all the little solenoids and block off hoses with screws etc. I need to keep the charcoal canister to route the crankcase vapours to (is the charcoal canister the black tub looking thing mounted next to the battery?) Sorry if it's all really basic stuff for you guys, but it's my first time working on a carby. Cheers

Early Corolla Sideview Mirror Options?

I like peep mirrors but unfortunately there's no good way to mount them on a pillarless coupe! -

Early Corolla Sideview Mirror Options?
jackbyo replied to jackbyo's topic in KExx Corolla Discussion
yeah that's pretty good looking! how about the early rollas, ke10-25 etc? did any of them have all chrome door mirrors on both sides? -
so I've only got the driver's sideview on my ke55 coupe and it's got a big chip missing I wanna replace it with something more classic than that black headed thing Ideally I'd like some that are from maybe an earlier corolla, all chrome or something? And I also want both sides done. no fender mirrors! any ideas? cheers

silverra is right unfortunately many things in this life are an issue of insurance, and more specifically - how insurance companies seem to find out everything and completely root people who havent done stuff by the book You might save a little money now by not getting it certified, but if you happen to hit a ferrari instead of a pole next time, you'll suddenly find your insurance company will tell you that you drove an illegal vehicle and give you a bill for $200000 instead of an excess of $500

cheers all One thing I'd like to add though, make sure you get your timing done properly after this install. The 'rule of thumb' to get to TDC works well enough but even then I was actually 11 degrees off!! Mechanic should only charge you $15-20 to do it, or ask a friend with a timing light. Quick timing adjustment made her start easier, idle quieter and be more responsive cheers :y:

hah nice list... mine wasnt so bad nothing too major there... how much is the backyard rust job? and is that for cut+weld or bog? treated rust areas tend to creep back. cutting out and welding new metal is the way to go, but you can worry about that later if the bog job is cheap Oil leaks can be annoying!! http://www.rollaclub.com/faq/index.php?title=Tech:Engine/K_Series/How_To_Fix_K_Motor_Oil_Leaks_%28Problems_And_Cures%29 theres a good guide to the usual suspects... for me it was the spark plug tubes. straightening out the top rim of them and then new o-rings sorted it out. stop leak might help but 9 times out of 10 its an o-ring/washer/gasket somewhere that needs replacing or tightening. usually very cheap and easy Alternatively you can just clean up any oil when you're around the corner from the mechanic before going in :y: real rat rod style rego stickers will need a razor blade and de-solv-it or eucalyptus oil my spare wheel is loose in the boot-well too.... It does bounce a bit on speedbumps but no biggie... get as much done yourself as you can Anything that you can't do, make sure you source the parts yourself and then pay for the labour to have them fitted (ball joints for instance) just yesterday i was looking at my hardtop and was thinking about how good it would look a bit rough, rattle can matte black, jelly beans, wide stance with some slightly dodgy rolled wheel arches....
-
for length i like the idea of a false floor I'd put it in above the wheel arches and youd get more width. with coupe seats flipped forward your feet would have plenty of space up at that end, not to mention all the storage space under the false floor not to mention it'd be quite original... any other rollas with a false floor camper setup?

on a 3k is there an engine flush plug? On my 4k there's a flush plug somewhere under the thermostat housing toward the lower part of the engine, on the front. it's a tapered brass bolt. flush from the thermostat housing opening out through that, back the other way, from the flush plug hole and out the bottom hose etc etc. basically all combinations you can think of with a strong hose I did this for a long long time on my 4k before it started running clear. water should pour out very quickly if the jackets arent clogged. I think theres product you can use to un stick bits of old sediment and sludge when flushing out the block's water jackets. if you've done all that and replaced the radiator, pump, thermostat etc etc etc then the problem might not be the cooling systems fault but something engine related

rare spares under clips and fasteners maybe

not much to report put the head unit in the glovebox, ran new wiring to the new speakers in the parcel shelf. Are the ebay venetians from that dude in south australia more spaced apart than these? These are from autocables and there isnt much visibility couple pics after a wash and wax :y:

how about the pedal box fellas? will a ke70 pedal box assembly bolt into a 55? I'm guessing not but just wanted to check cheers

1970 Ke20 For Sale, Comes With A Whole Heap Of Expensive Parts! &#
jackbyo replied to 7FOUR7's topic in Rollaclub Rides
wow looks totally overrated! with cars that age though, isnt that odometer actually 5 digits rather than 6? So it's ticked over however many times and is now on 7,844 (miles?) and 8/10ths? in any case, the car looks great and thats even better youve got the service history. I love the interior so damn much too -
Nice HX mate! Make sure you hold onto that and don't let someone take it off you for some silly amount. 800 really isnt bad for an engine transplant.... I wish I could make a rides thread on here for my kingswood ;) holdens do see to be the second most popular car with rolla people anyway, gotta go put the venetians in my 55 in the rain right now, will update my thread shortly :y: edit: also keep your eyes out for a round headlight grill and lights at the wreckers :y:
-
ahh that's right funny you should mention kingswoods... my girlfriend really likes the wagons, and recently got offered a good job but they said she needs her own car and it needs to be a decent size... So yesterday I got a train down to mittagong and drove home in this :y: :y: :y: hope yours gets back on the road... any pics of it? what happened to it anyway?
-
Looking quite respectable! Nice one I'd stick with matte if you're gonna rattle can it. When I did my rwc I just asked the mechanic to make a list of what it needed and I'd come back when I'd done it all. He charged me $40 I think and then I just worked off the list. Might be you only need a few little things for rwc

maaaannn that sucks!! I loved this car! how'd it happen? How's the engine damage?

I've currently got my new stereo and new temp gauge wired straight to my fuse box (ciggy fuse etc) As it, bare copper wiring wrapped around the metal cap on the end of a fuse. I think this is a little dodgy and I'm just wondering what you guys do to tidy it up down there? How to do it right? I'm fairly new to this electrical stuff So I saw these things online basically its a double adapter for a fuse box... unfortunately it's for the new/standard style auto-fuses, not KExx series etc little glass tube style fuses cheers
