  1. Ah thats what it was called! I might visit some time soon again and see what he wants for the publica
  2. Quad carbies ftw?
  3. I have a few photos myself :jamie: Nissan Cedric My fav photo Prince??
  4. No fukin way! sif you know of the dudley yard! I know I won't get it cheap but that thing is a piece of history for all toyota lovers. I't wouldn't be something that I would finish in many many years if I did get it and I would do what I could myself. I hope that Dudley stays healthy so that the inheriters of his yard don't scrap everything :jamie: . Love it how you start a conversation with him and it ends up going for ages. I still have not seen everything in that yard and I have been 3 times.....
  5. Well Last year some time I went up to a wreking yard and spotted this It is a 1960's UP10 Publica with a horizontaly opposed 2cly engine. I have always wanted to restore this thing but was always held back. Now I have a house and soon to have a shed I am seriously contemplating the idea. Don't know how mutch the owner will sell it for.
  6. I have a better idea :jamie: Will post up pics if it goes through.
  7. Hooray! The head is finished! All oiled up and ready to go back in! The proccess was not as hard as I first thought it was more of just time consuming and thumb blistering. Now I have some more confusion to add. I had a closer look at my manifold and noticed some very noticable differences that I did not notice before. My manifold has a bigger secondary inlet for the carby, a flat spot on #1 & #4 runner where it mates onto the head and has more mounting points on the manifold. Also my manifold only has the number 3 cast on it. The other manifold from a donor 4k does not have a bigger secondary but the same size ports. Also it does not have the flat spot nor the extra mounting points. The donor manifold also has the number 11 cast on it but also has further castings that go 17111 - 24040 The carby that is bolted onto my manifold does not accomidate the bigger secondary inlet therefore I am further confused. Did the 3kbp carby have this bigger opening??
  8. Well Finally I have cleaned up the head! Must say it looks 100% better than it did before. Managed to get a fair bit of pitting out but there is still some that are at least .5mm deap that I'm not confident to take out cause they are way too deep. Now all that is left is to finish cleaning the valves! Just need to let my thumb recover from all the sanding/polishing. Before Must say it looks quite spiffy now! Mmmmmm..... Shiny...
  9. I think my confusion must be coming from the fact that another motor had the same issue as I have therefore making me think that all 4k's had this problem. It could be that I may have found another 3kbp head at the wreckers! Unfortunately I can't rip it off as they have done a crush recently. Just for my own satisfaction I'm going to go down to the wreckers and measure port sizes. I'm kind of like a glass half empty person that will only believe what I read until I see it for myself. I have made mistakes in the past by listening to knowledgable people. I'm not saying that anyone here does not know what they are talking about but like snot35 said alot of these old cars have had all kinds of things done to them and everything is almost like a case by case issue. I'm sitting on about %90 confidence that I have a 3kbp head from those said facts but like I said I want to be %100 sure. Cheers for all your input and patience with me. My brain moves faster than my typing so I can never explain things properly.
  10. I checked the head number and the first part of the serial is the same as the 3kbp but the final 3 numbers are different. I have posted the number on page 2 of this thread. I have not cheked the block number yet. The other manifold (spare) has the same port missmatch markings on it from the other motor in the wreking yard. So basically another 4k in the wreking yard had the same port missmatch as mine. I havent measured it's port sizes tho. If anyone can confirm the 3kbp port sizes that would be helpful. My intake port sizes on the head are 32mm. on another note are the 3kbp ports any bigger than standard 4k ports?
  11. I've got a spare manifold that I might try to port myself and see how it turns out. It could be an interesting experience and hopefully a successful one. Apart from that i might actually have a go at getting the bike carbies to work with the motor as they have the same port sizes as the head which will make life easier. At this stage i'm going to focus on finishing the head clean and decide what to do when I get to that bridge after some thought. Valve lapping tools are so overated..... I could have used a lump of blue tack and a stick and it would have worked better. Just that the tools suction cap was either too big or too small at the ends. It still worked but kept on poping off too easily.
  12. Yeah but this is a difference in 3mm! Must have been rough times in toyota for this cost cutting excersize.
  13. At the moment I can't justify spending a couple of hundred dollars on a k engine that would otherwise cost $100 to buy. I was initialy thinking it might cost $150 - $200ish which I would have been happy with. For the same cost I could buy a performance camshaft for the 4k.... I have recently become a homeowner so my spending mula has become somewhat limited. I still have another beastie to spend about $800 to get it track ready again for the next mallala meet. Anyhows I have noticed something else which leads me to believe that I do not have a bigport. I took another manifold off of a different 4k at the wrekers and it had the same port missmatch on the intake runners. Did toyota do this intentionaly? I'm going to do some more hunting around before I make my decision at the moment.
  14. Cheers. Rang him and got a quote for "a couple of hundred dollars" at which point I had this feeling that someone had punched me in the goolies. Gunna see if I can set up some machines at work and do it myself....
  15. Cool! I'll try to find someone here in Adelaide that could do it for me now. Anyone recomend a place in the mid north?
  16. But that would only be matching the ports at the head. Would that not put to waste the big ports?
  17. I've looked in the for sale section and also the wanted to buy but alas.... nothing..... Someone in Adelaide was already looking for one but they had no such luck. If you do find the single carby manifold I'd be keen. Would the single carby manifold use the same carby flange as the 4k's? If not then I will make one myself....
  18. I'll see if I can but I won't hold my breath....
  19. Well I can definately say the ports are larger than normal. The intake manifold does not line up with the ports. The head has roughly 33~34mm ports and the intake manifold has 27mm ports.... Whoever modded this car before me was hopeless......Or just ignorant..... Anyhows i will be visiting the exhaust shop to pillage some pipe to weld up a new manifold. Might also look at doing the quad carby setup as I have nearly finished cleaning the bike carbies :) Should have the head all cleaned up and shiny tonight as I didn't get a chance to do it over the weekend, going to my mates workshop and borrowing his tools :P
  20. I'll measure mine when I take them out this weekend.
  21. Yeah I'm borrowing a dremel with a fine grinding stone to take out the pitting. My fingeres are completely fudged from all the fine sanding. I have only cleaned 2 cylinders :)
  22. Well i looked at the casting number and it says 24010 and 168 underneath. I think it might be a bigport indeed unless i am reading the chart wrong. http://www.rollaclub.com/faq/index.php?tit.../K_Series/Heads

    Dyno Sheets

My bro took my car down to get it dyno'd a while back. The red trace is with the silencer in the exhaust off and the blue trace is with the silencer on. They have done some wiered overlay thing where the red trace is actually ment to be over the blue trace but they have offset it. So imagint the dots being on top of one another rather than two spaces apart. Car : AE82 Series 2 Twin Cam Engine : 20v Silvertop N/A Transmition : 5 speed C - something or other Mods : Pod filter, Lightened flywheel, uber wikedness. The run was done in third gear
  24. I'll measure the port sizes and confirm. In the engine manual it was showing that something bolted onto that bit that is welded up.
  25. I didn't know it was a 3kbp..... I have the new VSS to put in from the 4k vrs kit. All the bolts are still intact thankfully . Could someone post a pic of a normal 4k combustion chamber? I had no idea it's a 3kbp. kewl......
