Basic Mechanical Engine Bay Question
markhansen1983 replied to markhansen1983's topic in KExx Corolla Discussion
Thanks Trev. So does not having those last 2 connected do any damage? Or could it have been caused by/caused the car to be overheating, or are they just minor pieces. Thanks in advance -
Hi guys, I know bugger all about cars, and have never pretended to, but my car has been having a lot of overheating issues, and i'm pretty sure it's done a head gasket. It's a ke70. On top of that, when I opened my engine bay: this is what greeted me. I have no idea what these pipes do, or where they should be connected. If any of you can enlighten me that'd be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Mark

Car has a suspected blown head gasket, and is now for sale. Check out the sale thread: http://www.rollaclub.com/board/index.php?showtopic=41213 :jamie:

so if it is a head gasket (which is what I'm thinking since I tried to start it up again yesterday, but it kept overheating still), what price am I looking at to get it fixed? Chances are I'll be selling it since I don't have any cash, and I was just keeping it as a second car. I'd like to be able to tell the buyer what the price would be to get it fixed. Would people be interested in buying the car, seeing as it would need to be towed? Guess I could just put it on ebay. Ideas for prices would be appreciated too. Cheers, Mark

i have no idea how to remove the thermostat :P 1. do I need to buy anything before I get to the car? 2. Do you have any pictures to assist? 3. Do I have to do it or can I just fill up the coolant?
-
So, my KE70, which previously has had no problems, was in the middle of a 50km journey, when I noticed smoke coming from the bonnet. I pulled over, and let it sit for a bit, and eventually pulled off the radiator cap (i realize this is not overly safe) and it started blowing water etc everywhere. I let it sit for a bit longer, and tried driving again, but the temp gauge was past the hot stage, so I pulled over again and got a lift. The car is currently parked a fair way from my house, and I'll attempt to get it in the morning. I'm wondering what could cause this, and what I should take with me to fix this....I presume some coolant. Any other suggestions/ideas? Mark

I installed a new stereo, but my stock radio in the KE70 is still connected, just not to speakers. It can still be turned on etc.... Won't do any damage,so that's an easy way to go if you can't be stuffed taking out the old one and getting behind the dash etc.

Rego/roadworthy For Selling A Car
markhansen1983 replied to markhansen1983's topic in Automotive Discussion
Fair enough. I guess it lets the buyer know that it's probably not far off roadworthy, and like you said, you can drive it to their house. With regards to what you said Brent, I don't think it would be a bonus to the buyer, as when I've sold cars I have got my money back off the rego...ie. if you sell it 9 months into the 12 month rego you get 1/4 of the $ back. That's what I thought anyway. I'm just surprised that people say: comes with 7 months rego, or whatever. What's the real advantage to the buyer.? It's different of course if they allow you to keep it in their name: i,e, you're selling to your best mate, or family member, and therefore aren't going to get roadworthy, and are going to keep the car in their name to save $. -
Hi guys- I'm from QLD, and have always wondered why people selling cars say: comes without rego, but has registration until **. I didn't think you were able to transfer the car into another persons name without roadworthy, so therefore what's the point of the rego?? Is it different in other states? Can someone explain this to me. Cheers, Mark

Haha, agreed. The hubcaps are ordinary- but I had to get something to put on. they had no caps at all :P plus cheap 13" wheels were hard to come by...Can't really argue for the price :)

it was a thick yellow one with a red strip...there were lots of yellow and reds tho :)

Anyone know what the differences were with the KE70s?
