demuire Posted July 19, 2004 Report Posted July 19, 2004 Yes 5K is bigger than 4K. 5K is 1.5L of fun. Quote
Peter Posted July 20, 2004 Report Posted July 20, 2004 Yes the 5k will bolt into your 55 never actually seen any specs on 5k's but you will have more horses and definitely more torque the old saying ( there's no replacement for displacement ) as for solid lifters they are available couple of tips scour the wreckers or trading post for a mid 80's liteace ( or a 99+ townace if you can find one, 7k? ) change to a double row timing chain and check for all the usual things when buying a 2nd hand engine Doug could give you some good tips Quote
irokin Posted July 20, 2004 Report Posted July 20, 2004 Saw a bottom end at the blacksoil wreckers....theyve done a bit of re-arranging so I couldnt show you exactly where it is... Quote

Super Jamie Posted July 23, 2004 Report Posted July 23, 2004 good deal, make sure the extractors fit in your car, and ditch the button clutch for an organic driven plate Quote
justatoy Posted July 24, 2004 Author Report Posted July 24, 2004 what do you mean when ya say organic driven plate?a standed clutch ???? Quote
irokin Posted July 24, 2004 Report Posted July 24, 2004 what do you mean when ya say organic driven plate?a standed clutch ???? Well you can get metallic (i think) or organic clutches. All the standard PBR clutches for 4Ks ive had have all been metallic like you'll know organic ones...they have bits in them that look like string Quote
Super Jamie Posted July 24, 2004 Report Posted July 24, 2004 what ben said. basically i mean a sprung driven plate with a full friction area and softer compound than a button clutch Quote
justatoy Posted July 27, 2004 Author Report Posted July 27, 2004 thanks for ya help so far guys . Just a couple more questions with the 5k being a 1500 and and my rolla coming out with a 1200 bolted in it will i need to get it engineered ? (in nsw ) I have found a 5 speed box but it come of a 4k will the 4k fly wheel and box bolt up? The bloke i got the 5k of has given me a twin su's and manifole will the su be better than the side drawft webbers or not ? ;) or :D Quote
Peter Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 with the mod ( motor and box) being basically a bolt up job you should have no problems getting it approved ( apart maybe from a brake upgrade depending on your model ) i have done it a number of times in Qld. as for the carbs WWEEBBEERRSS the box will bolt up but just check the position of the gear lever as you may have to move the hole in the floor. also watch out for the 5k motor with the vibration dampening weight on the backing plate( between motor and box) a fancy looking round lump of metal about 35-40 dia fixed to the front side of the backing plate. !!! remove it before installing engine/box into car!!! (again depending on model of car it could interfere with the drag link) just cut it off with a grinder as its a lot easier doing it out of the car. don't fit the Lhs engine/box bracket check the water pump shaft length make sure you get the tailshaft for the box ( or at least the slip yoke to swap onto your tailshaft) probably more little things to look out for but I'm 1/2 F.O.P. just now anyway post here again if any problems. Xany Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 don't quote me on this but i've heard that the 5k flywheel is bigger than the 4k one and the 4k box wont fit onto the 5k engine.....again don't quote me on that......i'm pretty sure i read it somewhere but can't remember where. Quote

It wouldnt surprise me if it was slightly bigger due to the bigger stroke. Id be swapping for a 4K flywheel any time ;) Quote
Xany Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 i'm running a 4k flywheel, it was the only spare one i had at the time i needed to machine it.....as seen here.... btw, if you're wondering what a 5K looks like....... mmmmmm.....5K goodness Quote
